ONTARIO: Gene E. Coffey, 81, of Ontario, Ohio died Sunday morning, May 25, 2014 at his home.
He was born in Shelby, Ohio, on December 12, 1932 to the late Leroy Ellsworth Coffey and Maud Vanluah Benninghoff Coffey.
Gene was a loving, generous man with a kind heart and was an amazing husband and father.
He put his family above all else.
His artistic side was demonstrated in his love of fine arts, plays and musicals.
He also enjoyed dining out at new and favorite restaurants.
In his spare time, he enjoyed antiquing, and completing remodeling projects around his home. He shared 51 years of marriage to his beloved wife, Ema Jean Coffey who preceded him in death on November 28, 2007.
Gene was employed as Clerk of Courts for 48 years at both the Richland County and Mansfield City Courthouses.
He was very interested in politics and served on various boards and committees over the years including Ontario Village Council for 7 years.
He is survived by two children, Kim (Becky) Coffey of Reynoldsburg and Steve (Connie) Coffey of Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Sarah, Adam (Lanie), Stephanie and Michael Coffey; a brother, Gerald Coffey; dear friend, Kate Hartz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Coffey and sister, Pat Moore.
A private memorial service will be held in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors.
