My grandparents were Ben and Mary cogavin.
I know there is alot of us somewhere we e all connected.

well, seems we could be related. If you're aunt's names begin with the letters I, B, F, and D, then we are. I'm your Mam's first cousin. Hope you re-contact this site. If you do, I'm Doreen's son from Dublin. She was married to my father, Brian Cogavin ( died in 1955 ), brother of your grandfather Ben, of Creagh, Ballinasloe, . I was at uncle Ben's funeral. Tell your Mam I said hello.

That would be Catherine Cogavin who was married to John Gilligan on 29 Jan 1855. It is highly likely that Catherine was the daughter of John Cogavin and Bridget Raftery who was born on 5 Oct 1837. I knew that the family disappeared from Creagh and have wondered where they went.

That is not the marriage date of Bryan Cogavin and Mary Raftery. It is the baptismal date for their son Michael. Bryan and Mary were probably married before the Ballinasloe Catholic register begins in late 1820.

Tulrush is in the parish of Creagh in Co. Roscommon. While it is near the border with Co. Galway, Tulrush is not in that county. Mr. Dwyer and I both have some knowledge of the Cogavins of Tulrush.

Bridget (Egan) of Glentaun was the widow of Patrick Cogavin, son of Bryan Cogavin and Mary Raftery. She became the occupier of the property after her father-in-law's death. Michael Cogavin of Tulrush was the eldest son of John Cogavin and Bridget Raftery. Michael's sister Bridget Shanley is listed in the 1901 census in the parish of Moore. Michael's son Thomas is listed with her along with his wife and infant son.

My mother's maidan name is Cogavin - her father was Michael Cogavin born 1900 in Ballinsloe (sp). Are any of my cousins out there. I happened to drive through last week (on holiday) and saw real estate signs with the name. We must be related.

Your mother, years ago - 1980's, sent me my husband's grandmothers birth certificate. Elizabeth Cogavin of Ballinasloe.

My research goes as follows:
Bryan Cogavin marr. Mary Raftery 9/17/1821 in St. Michael's, Ballinasloe
Child - Michael Cogavin marr Lucy Egan 2/14/1855 in St. Michael's Ballinasloe
Children of Michael & Lucy
Mary, Margaret, patrick, Bernard, Ann, Elizabeth, Elizabeth H., Catherine, Rosanna, & John.

It seems when they came to this country they all went to MA. My husband is from Revere. His mother was Olive Hand whose parents were Edwin Hand & Elizabeth H. Cogavin of Roxbury.

It appears we have made a connection.
