Hello,
I know its been a while since you posted this inquiry but I just found it in a search for the very same info. I am also descended from Jacob Boone (He was very prolific) and would like to find his father. Catherine Coger never married but I would like to know how she came up with Boone as Jacob's last name. Did you get any information from your question?

I realize this message is quite old, so I don't know if you'll get this, but I figured I'd try. I am decended from Jacob Boone also and all information I can find indicates that he has the child of Catherine Coger and John Boone, son of Jonathan Boone, son of Squire Boone. I don't have any proof of this; I was just doing the research because of family stories. Were you ever able to substantiate it?

Andrea C. Curry

Amazing. Clinton C. Coger is/was also my great-grandfather. His daughter, Effie Coger Snyder is my grandmother. So William Clinton Coger would be my great-uncle, and you are my second-cousin, I think.

William was born in Portage TOWNSHIP, Wood COUNTY, OH, which is near Bowling Green. My father, Kenneth Snyder, was also born there. There is also a tiny town named Portage in Portage Township, which I have visited. I also live in Michigan but only about 100 miles from Wood County.

There is one genealogical site that lists Kathryn Pepples as Clinton's wife, but I think that is probably a misunderstanding on the part of a census taker.

My father always prounced Coger to rhyme with Kroger, like the grocery store.

Coger is certainly a variant of a German surname. I have traced my line of the Snyder/Schneider family back to 1732, when Philip Schneider arrived in America. Interestingly, the Snyder/Schneider family married into other families of German descent exclusively until the start of the 20th century.

Great to hear from you!

My grandfather, William Clinton Coger, apparently grew up in what is now Portage County, OH, before moving with his own family to Mancelona, Michigan where my mother was raised. Clinton is my great grandfather, and we want to try and track down the link to our European ancestors. We heard growing up that the Cogers immigrated from Germany, but have no more information to start a search there. There do seem to be several variants of the family name; Cogar, Cougar, etc., and I was told that it originally had the two dots over the o.

I'm still searching for more info on Clinton's family, without any luck. I found some occupational info on him and two of his sons from a 1916 Wood Co. farm publication. And the Mormon site says his first daughter was born in Vinton Co., OH. Apparently they moved to Wood Co. around 1890. Tonight I'm looking at Vinton Co. records hoping to turn up something. I wonder if there was a name change or spelling change somewhere along the line

I doubt that these will fit your circumstances.
John Coger b. 1/12/1782 St. Ives, Cornwall -d. 2/23/1858 m
2/2/1804 in NY to Elizabeth Clearman b. 3/21/1785 Princeton, NJ - d. 11/24/1851. Schultz
No children that I know of
They appear to have stayed in the NYC metro area. This information was gathered by a Martling descendant. Vincent Martling married a Coger daughter and upon her death another one. A student found this material in the roadside trash,[Huntington, Long Island] loaned it to me briefly and then took it back. I have to recollection of who it was or what he was going to do with it. I quickly copied what I could and gave it back. This was 35-40 years ago and not a family of interest to me so I did not follow up on it.

My grandfather, Harry A., was born in Elmore, Ohio on April 26, 1883. We do not know this mother's or father's name. My father and his sister didn't know his name and only knew his wife as "Grandma". "Grandma" remarried a "Grandpa Russell" , don't know if that was a first name or a last name. I assume it was a last name as I don't think children were allowed to call people by their first name. Harry's father left the family when he was 11 years old . Did your grandfather have any brothers? Harry had 5 sisters and brothers, (Pearl) Florence, Edward, Howard (?), and Mabel.
