I am trying to trace the Cohagan name back through Virginia and maybe even Maryland if there is a direct link. Am interested in the Cohagans that might have been descendents of Geoghegan/Gagin/Gaughagan in Maryland and the Cohagan name to the 1700's in Virginia Michael/Thomas/lewis.

Thanks

Dr. Don Cohagan

Walter William Cohagan

Hi all,
I am not a descendant of the Cohagan family. However I like to try to complete most all lines of my family tree.

My 2nd great-grandmother, Antonia Cook had a sister named, Donia Cook, they were of Virginia. Donia married Robert Wright and they had one child, a daughter named Anna born 1892.

Anna married twice as I have it. Her second husband was Walter William Cohagan. Teh Cook family was close friends as well as family so I like to have infromation on all lines.

Now I have found them in the 1930 census living in Oakland, California.

But later on they moved to Multnomah County, Oregon. Walter William Cohagan had been married before to, his first wife's name was Lydia and they had a son named George W. Cohagan 1914-1977. Lydia married again to a man named Ray Evans.

And I have an obit for Walter William which lists his wife as Martha called "Bobby." He died in 1961 in Oregon.
Lists his sisters as Clara Skelton and Jessie Burke. I checked online and found Jessie married first to an Alexander Quinn.

Jessie and Walter William were born in Colorado.

I did find in the Oregon death index database at Ancestry.com, an Anna W. Cohagan who died in 1949. I think this may be my Anna Wright Cohagan.

If anyone is related to this family and/or knows anything about them more please e-mail me at : familytr@att.net
or please reply here. Thank you.

God bless,
Beth

Alice Cohagen

My great-great grandmother was Alice Cohagen and I'm trying to find any information anyone might have on the Cohagen side of my family. She was married to John N. Robey and they had a child named Charles Robey (my great-grandfather)who married Mertie Tignor; they lived in and around Logan, Ohio. I'm not sure where John N. Robey and Alice Cohagen lived. Anyone with any information or leads, please contact me at goldilocks9@mindspring.com
Thank you. Linda Johannsen

I am from the line of michael cohagan; son of ambrose gaughan. i have been gathering information on jonathan and lydia cohagan for several years. i just made their connection to several cohagans in the states you mentioned. most of my information is from loudoun,va. and their life in morgan co.,ohio. i would be thrilled to have a copy of the picture of cohagan brothers and the tombstone of jonathan and lydia. i am getting close to having the information to complete their family for my research. pictures are like finding gold for a genealogist.
Jonathan and Lydia Cohagan

Jonathan Cohagan, d. Aug. 7, 1897 (77Y.7M.16D on cemetery stone. Lydia, wife of J. Cohagan, d. Sep. 12, 1904 (81Y.6M.23D.) Buried Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Davis Co., Iowa. They raised my g grandmother, Barbara Burdett. Her mother's estate papers in the courthouse in Bloomfield, IA include a document signed by a Thomas Cohagan. They were farmers. Old postcards indicate that one of the Cohagan sons was involved in a rodeo-type event and traveled to places which included Oklahoma. I think the community northwest of Bloomfield where they lived was called Ash Grove, IA, now only a crossroads. Although not a match with your data, I thought this inf. could be related. If so, please reply because it would be nice to "thank" the Cohagans.

Jonathan and Lydia Cohagan raised Barbara Burdett

So glad to find you. Wesley Chapel Cemetery is in Davis Co., northwest of Bloomfield, Iowa. Marion is a suburb of Cedar Rapids, several miles north. I have visited Wesley Chapel. When Barbara's parents died, Jonathan and Lydia "took in" Barbara as part of the family. She considered their sons as her brothers. I wanted to find the family to thank them. I am Barbara's great grand daughter. I have a photo of Barbara and some of the Cohagan brothers in their older years. Also, I took a photo of J. and L.'s tombstone in case I found a Cohagan who would like a copy. If interested, post your email address, and I will connect with you. If not, please accept my family's gratitude. Finding a Cohagan was on my list of "unfinished business."
