WILLSBORO — Michael R. Cohan, 85, of Mountain View Drive, Willsboro, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Mr. Cohan was born on Jan. 21, 1916, in Duluth, Minn., but moved east at an early age.
He attended New York City schools and was a jazz guitarist as well as a band singer during the 1930's and 1940’s.
He served in the regular Army from 1940 to 1945, spending 23 months in combat in Europe. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and was entitled to wear the Bronze Star ("V" for valor) as a result of that service.
In 1949, he came to Crown Point where he became manager of The McCabe Store, serving in that capacity for 38 years. He was married to the former Dorothy McCabe, who died of cancer in the spring of 1988. The store was sold shortly thereafter.
He is survived by his wife, Rita Cohan of Willsboro, and his daughter, Susan Cohan of Lafayette.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph's Church, Essex at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2001.
Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Moriah in the spring.
The Harland Funeral Home, Port Henry is in charge of arrangements.
