Maurice Cohn from Vilna, Russia?

I'm searching for my great-great grandfather, Maurice Cohn. I recently found the death certificate for my Great-Grandfather Michael Cole and instead of giving a birth date and location in NY, 1886- It says "Vilna, Russia".

Anyway, Michael's father's name is given as "Cohn" and mother as "Shapiro". Both are said to be born in Vilna, but I have no dates, or date range. Don't know whether the name was changed before/at or after immigration.

Any ideas/suggestions/info would be really appreciated. Meanwhile, I will keep searching. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you have.

JWP

Any info on Louis and Rebecca Cohn from Romania?

Louis was born November 1886, and Rebecca was born May 1890. They're both from Romania, possibly Bucharest. They immigrated to New Jersey, US in the early 1900s, possibly separately. They were married in the 1910s. According to their daughter-in-law, my grandmother, they're cousins. Anyone have any connections or search tips?

Hello!

I may be a relative of yours. I am just now putting my Cohn relatives into the Ancestry website. Monte (born Manny Cohn in San Francisco around 1892) was my grandmother's brother. What I know about him is that he took the stage name of Monte Brooks.

The story goes that in the old country (Dobrzyn, Poland), his father's family lived near a brook and called themselves Brook. Monte added an "s" to the name. He had a booking agency in Portland and did very well. He married widow Pearl Brownstein.

I never met his sister Birdie. She lived to be 101.

I'd love to hear from you.

Marcia Croter

Isaac Cohn of NYC- mother Kempner/Klempner

Looking for Master Isaac Cohn living in NYC in 1889. Unfortunately, do not have age or if born in states or not. What I do know is he was the nephew of Gussie Fannie Kempner Lyons of Van Buren, Crawford County, AR. He would have been of traveling age in 1889 (doesn't state any other family member). Gussie Fannie Kempner Lyons was born in Krakow. She has two known older half sisters: Ester Bayla (b. ca. 1835) and Pessel (b. ca 1843). She may have had other sisters born 1853-1861 in Krakow. Family name was Klempner in Krakow. Suspect sister also lived in NY since Gussie Fannie's brother Joseph visited his sister in the city in 1894.

Other siblings in the US that may be familiar are Moses H Kempner of Idaoh, Bernard Kempner of Arkansas (he and wife actually returned to Krakow maybe leaving children Lena and Max behind in early 1870's), and Jacob Kempner of Little Rock AR.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated

I am looking for information on James B Cohn born in Georgia in 1865. Lived in Alabama from 1920 to 1925, maybe longer. Died 12/27/1929 in Meldrim, Georgia. Married Eula Miller Smith Cohn and had 4 children. David Eugene, Herbert, Jaunita, and (Bettie who died at 12 days old. Eula died in 1925, and I think he moved back to Georgia after her death. The 1920 census says his parents were both born in Georgia. I can't find any other census for him, nor any marriage or birth records. Thank you.

Hi there
I'm Tomi and Janis' brother.
To answer your question about the great grandfather (father of Oscar H Cohn)Oral history from our dad Orviolle and his mother Inda is that the original Cohn came from Berlin, spoke 5 languages, Married a Cherokee. Tomi and I have connected Ora Cohn to a lady either named Emma R Dahne or Emmar Dahne in the 1900 Creek Nation Cherokee indian census. She is listed as 1/8th Cherokee and Ora is 1/16 Cherokee.

There are Cohns from all parts of northern Europe but the the majority that emegrated to the US come from Germany Russia, Poland, Prussa.

Cohn married Putman

Seeking Seeking.....
My Marilla Cohns Putman married John Putman in Ontario as far as we know since most of the children were born in Canada.

As far as I can summize, she may have been of Dutch origin.
So I enter her name into search engines I do not find her. But when I enter in Cohn... it comes up with refrences. Alot in NewYork. It seems to me that there is something very ethnic regarding Cohn. Especially when a soundex is used it comes up COHEN.

I am stummped. Ontario Records are not like the beautifully kept Quebec records in the least. So finding Marilla & her Parents is a Big Mystery to me.

I know I have dates in detail in my other post under David Cohn. [No connect there that I can find]. Just trying to turn all the leaves over to see whos there.???

If you know how to help me please let me know.

Thanks,
Bren

My great grandfather, Morris and his wife Pauline, supposedly came from Odessa. According to US Census, they arrived in 1886, and lived in New York City where they raised five children.

Pauline died somewhere around 1902,and Morris soon married a woman named Annie, with whom he had five more children.
They lived in Brooklyn.
Two of these were born in New Jersey, and somehow Morris had become Abraham before they moved back to Brooklyn.

If any of this sounds familiar, then by all means, let me know as tracking them prior to the 1900 census is, for now, impossible....ALSO any information as to when Morris died would be helpful.

Thank you, so much, in advance....

Jeffrey Leeds
Hi, This is Donna. (Bill Cohn's daughter, granddaughter of William Hubert Cohn)I spoke with your Dad a couple weeks ago and forgot to get your email... I have the information about Pearl Conn, which would be your dad's grandmother. Her full name was Lola Pearl. Born 1896 died 2/5/19. I was able to obtain Volley's and Pearls marriage license. Her father was John Satterfield and mother is Barabar A. Satterfield, (maiden name of Copas). I also have obtained several photos..one of Milby Satterfield, and Ocie Satterfield, (siblings of Pearl's) and one of the Satterfield family which we believe Pearl is in the picture. I also have obtained death certificates of William and Mary Conn..(Volley' parents) and have located and taken pictures of the graves. I would be happy to share everything we have gathered so far. We will probably be going back to Adams County on the 13th to see if we can come up with a death certificate for Pearl, we have located her on the Death Index and have the death cert. number...It must exist somewhere, if not in West Union (we will be checking the genealogical society because we have already checked the court house and health dept and they do not have the death cert. or the birth cert.) then we will check Columbus or the Ohio Genealogical Society in Mansfield...Also, the name change occurred with Volley when he married Della Ross, his second wife...
