Coins of Hutchison County, Texas

On 11 Dec 1929, Mary Bell Weir Coin (daughter of C. E. Weir) died from "burns over her entire body" at St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo. She was a resident of Sanford. Her husband's name was Roy Leon Coin. Death certificate says that she was buried in Dallas. No cemetery was named. On 15 Mar 1930, her young son Ray Kenneth Coin (b. 13 Jul 1925) died from pneumonia related to measles in Sanford. Another son, Roy Leon Coin, Jr., died 16 Mar 1925 (dob 6 Nov 1922) from pneumonia related to measles in Sanford. The boys are buried in the Dallas County, also. Their graves are marked with a single grave marker. There is no grave marker for Mary. Leon Senior is buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth.

I am doing this research for a friend. We are curious about Mary's cause of death. Was there a fire at the Hotel where the family lived? and does anyone know where she is buried?
He possibly lived in Tennessee & Miami Co Ohio. John WIlkerson Coin was the third husband of Susannah Embree b 1800 Washington Co Tenn. Thier son was Jesse Josephus Coin. Any information on this Coin line would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely
Tammy

Wyogirl39
Working on the Coin family tree I hope you can help.
This Walter Coin I think was b. in VA. And move to NC. And move to TN. And then back to VA.
His wife was in the poor farm pauper in his old age in the alms house of Harford County VA.
Could that be when a lot of the Coin move from TN.
What I have found
I am working on this. Walter Dominic Coin or Dominic Coin or Thomson Walter Dominic Coin.
So this Walter D. Coin was born in South Hampton County Virginia 1755.
And the family move to Edgecombe North Carolina then they move to Grainer County TN. sometime in 1812 or so.
And one Walter D. Coin in 1830 was about 100 years old, well this Walter D. Coin would be 75 years old I say there one of the same.
I find it Walter D. Coin in the 1830 Granger Co. Tenn. census (which shows one white male living with the family who is over 100).
http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.coin/6.31.2/mb.ashx
If this is true that could be my line ..?
Walter D. Coin born in 1755 father of Walter D. Coin born 1810 he the father would be 55 years old from there to John R. Coin.
Question to Walter D. Coin
http://www.southerncampaign.org/pen/s1737.pdf
http://southerncampaign.org/pen/s34706.pdf
I am trying to make heads or tails of this.
http://www.southerncampaign.org/pen/s8923.pdf
Hi:

I realize that this a few years from when you posted this message, but I am trying to find out the origin of the Coin family and hoping that you might give me some information if you have any. My grandmother's father was John R. Coin (Cohen) and she was Mollie Coin and married Finis D. Clowdus. They also lived in the Gadsen, Etowah County, AL area and she is buried in Birgminham, AL
Again I really interested in finding out her origin and the nationality of the Coin name.

Thanks!!

Peggy

Darline,
Re a Louisa COIN from Christian Co MO, b about 1840-44, who married a WASHBURN, I have many questions. I am wondering if you are a COIN researcher with some answers mentioned to me by Karen (AlaskaLady). If so, Karen was going to forward you an email from me today.

I think I have found the WASHBURN ...Seth E. WASHBURN ...a marriage record to Louisa BOLIN. I also found a previous record for Louisa to James BOLIN. I have a WASHBURN line in Christian Co and Greene Co MO, that went to St Louis around 1888 and I believe Louisa COIN and Seth E. WASHBURN are the line I have been hunting for years.

I also find in Christian Co Court records that Seth E. WASHBURN was in 1868 before the court for bigamy. So, hmmm, that might account for Louisa WASHBURN and her 5 yr old son Robert in 1870 Springfield, Greene Co, MO not having a spouse in the household. She is living in the Martha KING household in 1870. I do not have her in 1880, but I have her in St Louis in 1889-90 (St Louis City Directory) in the same residence as her son, Robert E. WASHBURN on 6th Street, Music Business. She is shown as Louisa DAVIDSON, widow of Samuel. I also have what i believe is her 1898 Death Record as Leniza DAVIDSON.

Robert mar #1 in Greene Co 1885 to Anna MOORMAN and she divorced him there in 1888. Next he is in St Louis and in 1896 he remarries to Mary E. CAVANAUGH. They are my great grandparents. What has led me to COIN is a couple of things ...Robert's 1910 Death Certificate information for his mother shown as Lulu COIN (hard to read, looks like Corn or Corin, but COIN as written looks the same on census records) , and a just-found birth of a son Eugene Lee WASHBURN b 1899, d 1900 St Louis, stating his father was born Christian Co MO, when for years, I thought Robert was born in Springfield.

You may post here if you wish, or email me directly at (connect spaces) audstan @ chartertn. net

Hope to hear from you.

noting the many spelling variants that come up in the census, here's something to consider...though it may just be a wild shot.
the surname Goin shows up in early Virginia, and the name Coin could have dirived from it. I haven't chased this idea, it's just been simmering in the back of my mind. it could answer some questions, or even break through the brick walls.
certainly worth checking out.

I guess I had better join in. To begin Gerry Moyle was my aunt, my mother's sister. I worked with her many years ago (BC, before children)but never got back before she died (2002 I believe).
I did find Walter D. Coin in the 1830 Granger Co. Tenn. census (which shows one white male living with the family who is over 100).
But I have not been able to get any further back.
Our line goes from Walter thru Elizabeth (Avryhart), then Georgia Ann (who marries Jeremiah John Morris) whose daughter Minnie is my grandmother.
I am also looking for any information on Gus?
I was so excited to see these Coin postings! I'm back into my family history after a few years off, so am now scanning message boards, etc. Vince Santana, who posted some of these Coin messages, is actually my cousin (his mother and my father were siblings). I, too, am descended from Thomas Walter (or Walter Thomas - I've seen it both ways) Didymus Coin. Like most of you, I don't have a lot of info yet, but what I have am glad to share. Please contact me at my personal email: rpsidaho@msn.com.

James - you mention a photo. Not only am I related to Coins, but the Kuykendalls listed in your message are also my ancestors. Josephine Leveque was a Kuykendall; then she married my ggrandfather. I'd love to learn more about the photo. Please be so kind as to email me at my address listed above. I'll look forward to hearing from you!

One of you mentioned corresponding with Gerry Moyle years ago. I have a number of letters she wrote to my grandmother (who was Josephine Leveque's daughter), with some genealogy in them. Mostly about Kuykendalls, Leveques, and I think maybe some Coin info too. I'd be happy to share copies with anyone who has those names in their family lines.

Would love to hear from others working on these lines!

During a property search in Parker County, Texas, I found a deed for a tract of land that was granted to a Samuel Coin by Governor Edmund Davis. It's Volume 1, Page 213. Don't know if that will help any, but thought I'd tell you anyway.

Re: Coin ancestry

joining the fray, hoping some of you are still around after all these years.
what little I've found regarding the Coins is mostly through diligent census searching. to save the next person from the difficulty of discovering the Coins in the census;

Walter D. Coin and Louisa J.
spelled variously Coin, Cohen, Cowen, Cowan
1840 Tennessee, McMinn
1850 Tennessee, Monroe, 13th Dist.
1860 Georgia, Dade 1089th Dist.
1870 Tennessee, Marion, 13th Dist.

in the 1860 census, there is in Walter's family an Ellen Hussey aged 1 year old. is this a grand daughter? is she orphaned? she is still with Walter in 1870, but is given the surname Cohen in that census.

he is not in the 1830 census. I suspect he is with his parents.
there are a number of Coin's in McMinn Co., TN in 1830.
the Coins in 1830 McMinn Co., TN are;

Leonard Cain (?)
Andrew Cowan
Campbell G. Cowan
David Cowan
Robert Cowan
Rosanna Gillespie Cowan
William Cowan

however, I believe he may be the son of Walter D. and Sarah Cowen of Grainger Co., TN

Walter D. Coin and Sarah
1820 ?
1830 Tennessee, Grainger
1840 Tennessee, Grainger
1850 Tennessee, Grainger, district 8
1860 Tennessee, Grainger, district 8

elder Walter is much easier to find as he never budged, except 1820...must've been twixt and 'tween VA and TN? but junior is stated as b. in TN...

now, if Walter and Sarah are Walter's parents, he was b. in 1811 and the next child I have for Walter and Sarah is b. in 1827. that means they may have had around 20 children. I have 11 besides Walter. but I can't find them in 1820, so it's difficult to be sure how many children they had.

still the other Coins in the 1830 need to be checked against them...perhaps they are missing children of Walter and Sarah. I don't know, I haven't checked them yet, but this is all pretty new to me, just a few days old.

I am researching for a friend who is not online and who doesn't really care to get online who descends from Walter through his daughter Sarah Emily who m. George Washington McDonald. their daughter Annie Irene m. James Robert Hilton, and their daughter, Marion I Hilton is his mother.

if you wish to see what I've found so far (not much, but a fair start) I have uploaded it to WorldConnect and you can see the many children the two Walter's had...though I'm missing a number of them as mentioned previously.

maybe there's something there of help-I know I haven't found alot, haven't checked the CW index, for instance. much more to do, and some corrections will probably be needed along the way.

glad to help and share when and where I can.

Your Louisa is probably the daughter of George and Mary Coin. George's father was James Coin and mother Mary Quimby/Quinby. She is listed as Lula F. Coin among the heirs of James Coin. George had moved from Taney Co., Mo (1870) to Texas. He must have died about 1875 for some of her siblings were living with their uncle Aaron Coin in Denton County. Mary, Sarah, James and Manda. In the 1900 Dallas County census Loula Denton and son, Arthur is living with her brother James C. Coin.

Dave,

After looking at the Marriage Bond, the following factual corrections should be noted:

--the Marriage Bond was dated April 29, 1830, not 1810
--it says the prospective bride was daughter of (blank space) Coin deceased; usually the first name of the father would be supplied there
--it says nothing regarding the bride's mother, not that the mother was dead
--the Bond was good for 30 days; marriage may have taken place the same day or weeks later or not at all
--the bride's surety was Isaac Cooper, who may have been a relative

Good hunting,
Jade

He settled in central Illinois and later moved to southern Illinois. where he is buried. His father was John Coin, mother Susan, maiden name unknown. He had a brother named Walter who went to central Illinois also and stayed. He might have had a brother Andy, my Dad had mentioned an Uncle Andy. Any information would be appreciated.
