I have been trying to find information about John Cole, Jr., who was my 5th-great-grandfather. My information comes from a family Bible belonging to Nelson Cole (1812-1899).

John Cole Jr. was born on either 13 or 15 August 1784 in New York. He married Gennett Lamont, dau. of Archibald Lamont and Abiah Smith, on 15 September 1805. The Lamonts lived in Hillsdale, Columbia, NY. John and Gennett removed to Oneida County and had eight children, and the Bible moves forward from there.

There is a transcript from the Bible that tells the story of Daniel Cole, b. abt 1633 in England, with information about his various wives, and then has a list of his children. The name Israel Cole (b. 8 June 1653) is underlined, which leads me to believe the writer is insinuating descent from Israel. However, there is no more information between Israel and John Jr.

Of course, this could be pure fantasy on the part of the writer, but it's a possible connection I'd like to pursue. Are there any good treatments of this line, or has anyone done sufficient research to tell if perhaps these lines are connected?

This is what I have on Isreal COLE. Like you, I am stopped right here. I have his ancestors but I cannot connect him to his son Isreal.

Mary Paine was born in 1652 at Eastham, Barnstable, MA. She was the daughter of Thomas Paine and Mary Snow.

Mary Paine married (first) James Rogers, son of Lieut. Joseph Rogers, on 11 January 1670/71; Eastham.

Mary Paine married (second) Isreal COLE, son of Daniel COLE and Ruth Chester, on 24 April 1679; Eastham. Mary Paine died before 1724 at Eastham, Barnstable, MA; 1710 .

2. (*) Israel born 28 June 1685 Eastham MA; married about 1710 Mary Emery. His will proved 9 Sep 1747 Eastham MA.

3. Isaac born about 1687 Eastham MA.
