Mabel was murdered in Wichita, Kansas 1938 and at that time the article mentioned her sister, Ruby Lane from Eureka, Kansas. Ruby is the one I'm looking for. Would appreciate any help.

Harold,
Sorry ~ I think my question wasn't stated clearly. I was wondering about the parents of David Colglazier (1769-1855)who married Cynthia May (1772-1856) . I have seen that 1916 article and believe I have a copy here someplace, but can't find it right now.
Somewhere I picked up the name of Abraham's wife as Sarah Brittain (the cemetery book shows Britton) and I see you show Button. Is Button the correct spelling/name?
I also wanted to ask if you've ever seen Sarah's husband Abraham listed as Samuel Abraham.

Jim

Hi Janet. My line goes as follows:
Allen Colclaiser, born abt 1804 in KY
Ervin Colclaiser, born abt 1830 in MO
Thomas Colcleaser, born 1861 in MO
Cecil Colcleaser, born 1912 in AR
David Colcleaser (me)

We are unsure at this time who Allen's father is. He is connected to the Abraham Colclasher who married Sarah Chaney in 1806 in Clark County, KY. Nobody in the other well documented line (Colglazier/Colclasure) wants to claim them. Have been researching the Colclessers because the origin is the same. I have found my surname spelled as Colcleaser, Colcleasure, Colclasure, Colclaiser, and very many more.

Was hoping that maybe you'd recognize one or more of the names.

Dave

I forgot to mention a couple of thing of interest in your reply. You said you had a Oscar Lee buried in Flathead County, MT. I had a Chester Erby born in Kalispell, Flathead, MT in 1907. You had two buried in Washington State and my line Thomas and family were in Kittikas County, WA during the 1920 and 1930 census.

Think there might be any connection?

Dave

Mary married Phillip in 1819 one year before any of the children were born and died one year after him. Therefore it would follow that she would be the mother of all seven children.
1819 - June 16, 1819 "Coldazure, Phillip & Polly Gorrell, bond 16 June 1819; Father John Gorrell; bdsm: Philip Caldmore (Colglazier), John Gorrell. Philip Colglazier & Polly Gorrel, 7 June 1819." McClure, Early Marriages in Bath County, Kentucky. (This information was discovered by David Merryman gr.gr.gr grandson of John B. Colclazier. And also gr. gr. grandson of William Colclazier while digging thru records in KY.)

I have been to the cemetary. Mary's stone is broken but put back in front of the original base. It says wife of Phillip, does not say mother as I would assume it would if these were her children. Phillip was given land in Iowa "Issued in favor of Philip Colglazar, Private in Captain Warfields Company Kentcky Mounted Volunteers, War of 1812". This was property that belonged to the Phillip that is buried in IA. Patent 10-1-1852 11-19-1897 book 47 pages 120 and 121 from records Indianola, Warren, IA. I have information on land records to and from Phillip in Warren County. From the dates on the stones and the ages of the children:John b. 1820 in KY, William b 4-11-1821 in KY, David b 1825 in KY, James b either 1828 or 1830 in IN, Mary Ann b Dec 1830, Julia Ann b 1834, and Elizabeth b 1841 I do not believe that this Mary was the mother of these children. There are land transfers to these children from Phillip. William is my direct line ancestor, he and his wife had 12 children in Warren county and then divorced.

Phillips wife was Mary "Polly" Gorrell. Neither Phillip or Mary could read or wright and I'm not sure they even knew when they were born. The census records for 1820, 1850, 1860, and 1870 all give different birth years. Mary's parents were married December 20, 1793 so I would asume her birthdate to be after that. Her parents were both born in 1764 so they would have been 15 at her birth if the 1779 you suggest is correct (unlikely). I sincerely doubt that either birthdate is correct as it appears on their tombstone. It is possible that in their advanced age they got their birth years mixed up. It is hard to believe that Phillip fought in the war of 1812 at 45 and sired children at 75 years of age and lived to be 105 at that time period in our history. The newspaper article noteing his age at the time of death only reflects what the reporter was told by surviving kin who in turn were going by what they were told by their parents.

I did not have a surname for Mary that is buried with Phillip. Their graves ane in Lynn Grove, Warren, IA. Her death date is 2 Apr 1872 and is listed as wife but not mother. Her tombstone says that she was 93. I had her birth listed as 1779, which would make it impossible for her to be the mother of the children I have for Phillip. He had 7 children, which I have information for. I am a ancestor of the second William, who had 12 children and the divorced. I have the records for many of the ancestors.

Mr. Kellams, Could you please look up something for me on your 16 page family history of Colglazier family. My great great grandmother was Elizabeth Colclaser/Colglazer. I only know her from 1850 Henry County, KY census and some since then. She married James Fox and they had a large family. They moved on to McCracken and Livingston Counties, KY from eastern Kentucky. She says one census that she was born in Maryland and another time that she was born in Pennsylvania. I have searched for something about her family for so many years. I wish I could find some clue before I get too old. Someday I will know.
Thanks for any assistance possible, Marilyn Dawson .
