Thank you soo much, so far most of my research on my lastname do point straight to france. I mean I've heard the last name with 2 L's but that just wasn't mine, and I wasn't gonna accept a misspelling as an answer. If it's not too much to ask, but can u give me or send me or at least tell me where did you get this valuable piece of information? To be frank with you (and not to bea rude or disrespectfull but) I've never heard of this Emil person with my last name. Now please tell me is you r last name Colin too? then again, Thank you soo much you've given me like a missing part of me like a lost part of my iddentity. If it's not too uhmm... to early or to unproper, but would you mind keping a comunication about this subject? when you have the time or so "please =^.^=". you are like one of the few whom have actually guiven me stable concrete something about my last name. then again THANK YOU = )

It is interesting to hear that there are Colin in Mexico. The Perry County, Missouri USA branch (Emil Perron Colin and his siblings) originally came from the Paris, France area. They were exiled by Napoleon III to Switzerland before coming to the US in 1857. This might be ironic because Napoleon III was responsible for the French "adventure" into Mexico that apparently your Colin was involved in. There are several French painters with the name Colin who were active in the period of 1800-1850 (François COLIN and Alexandre Marie Colin).

Bonjours. Ca va? Je parle un peu le francais. If I can document it, Josef Colin would be my 5G grandfather. I am directly descended from Honore Colin via Maximillian Colin. What documentation do you have that Josef Colin married Julia Villars and that they had two sons, Honore and Augustin? I'd appreciate any information you may provide.
Thanks,
Tom

I'm native from Mexico, and yes my last name is Colin my full name is Raul Alejandro Colin N., the same as my grandfather's exept for the Alejandro part. It took me about two years to research my name due to the fact that is very rare and the other verssion is Collin, or Collin's. I do belive that there might be a chance that the name is french due to the facts that when I researched my name there were some records on the new york islands of people of european countries, mostly from france that had the last name in the same version as me. Also the region from were my father id from is very close to where the french took over in Mexico(The battle of Puebla is what we selebrate on May 5)there is a chance that the last name is french So if your last name is Colin please don't hesisitate on contacting me back, I really would like to dig in deeper to know more about my last name because is not a common Lopez, Hernandez or what ev.. name, so I really grew curious on were it comes from or what did it meant.

Ron,

I have a great, great grandfather named Adrien Pierre Collins, who was born (parents: Frederic Collins and Odile Theriot) on Jan 31, 1855 in Chenier Caminada, Louisiana and died on March 12, 1925 in Golden Meadow, Louisiana. Married Josephine Marguerite Cheramie on December 13, 1849. He had 13 children. According to the WorldConnect Project on Rootsweb, Frank Collins is my great grandfather. I got this information from a descendancy study, and more helpful, a textual pedigree, of Frederic Collins done by Ronald J. Baril, Sr. I've got the hard copy of the pedigree but can't find it online on WorldConnect Project. Mr. Baril's email address is rbarilsr@msn.com. Hope this helps.

My grandfather was a Colin Collins, my dad was a Colin Collins, and I'm Anne Colin Collins! My line arrived from Ireland about 1846 and landed in New Orleans. We're probably not related, but I thought the repetition of names was interesting! Anne Colin Collins Nemeth-Barath

He was born of French parentage in Vienna, Austria. Your reply was the first time that I have seen the two names linked.

If you have further information about any Nicolas [Nicholas] Colin, I would look forward to the information.

Yours truly,
E.
The name "Colin"
I am researching my family tree. On my father's side is the name "Colin" which somehow turned into "Collins".
My grandfather always said he was born in Canada, his father being Robert Colin and his mother being Adaline Quenell. In my research I have found that "Colin" means "Collins" in english, how true this I don't know. I have heard from relatives of mine that Robert Colin came from France and yet anything that my grandfather put down about his father was that Robert Colin was from Ireland. When I sort this name thing out maybe I will actually find out what neck of the woods my ancestors came from. I did find out too that "Quenell" was also "Quesnel". I would like to know if "Colin" is Irish or French from France or Canadian French.
Thank You,
Anne Collins

Edward & Jane (Brennan) Colin – Ashtabula, OH

I am looking for the family of EDWARD COLIN and JANE (JENNIE) BRENNAN of Conneaut and Ashtabula, Ashtabula County, Ohio.

Jane (sometimes called Jennie) Brennan was born in Ashtabula, Ashtabula County, Ohio around 1888. Her father died suddenly around 1890, and she and her siblings spent some time in a Children’s Home in Ashtabula. Jane was later returned to her mother’s care, while most (but not all) of her siblings were placed in other homes or sent to an orphanage. Jane married Edward G. Colin in the early 1900s, and they had at least four children that I know of. The family was living in Ashtabula in 1930.

JANE (JENNIE) M. BRENNAN, daughter of MARTIN BRENNAN and MARY CRAIG, was probably born March 07, 1888 in Ashtabula, Ashtabula County, OH. She married EDWARD G. COLIN. He was born about 1881, possibly in Pennsylvania.

Children of JANE BRENNAN and EDWARD COLIN are (all probably born Ashtabula, OH):

1) KATHERINE A. COLIN, b. about 1907.
2) JOHN A. COLIN, b. about 1915.
3) JAY M. COLIN, b. about 1916.
4) VIRGINIA J. COLIN, b. about 1919.
… other Colin children? …

If any of these names sound familiar to you, please contact me. Thank you.

Your mother, Sueanne, is the best source for decendents of her father John Harvey Addison Colin. She'll tell you that Harvey was the 3rd of 8 children, and two (Evelyn and Raymond are still alive). There were 14 children born to all of the eight children; 10 of us are still alive. There are TWO generations after us.

I suggest you look for decendents of John & Hattie Colin of Missouri.
Hello Elizabeth,
I am not sure if I can help except to offer another direction for research. My GreatGrandfather Eugene Albert SPEYSER was born in Strasborg, Alsace, France. Eugene was a tinsmith by trade but his son Rudolph, my Grandfather, worked in the Aeronautical trade during WWII with Wright-Aeronautical. I have seen the SPEYSER surname in Alsace spelled SPEISER, SPEISSER, SPICHER, SPEICHER, etc. Leon's mother's forename Pauline is common in my grandfather's family and coupled with the same career interest might you try searching in the Alsace region of France. I do not have the name COLIN in my database, but will let you know if I come across your names in my research.
Theresa Adair Michiel
