I have just started working this line but it appears John Collier married Sarah Ratliff and they are the parents of at least some of these children. Henry Collier, my great, great grandfather, married Emma Caroline Marion in 1850, in Leake County, MS. Henry was born in Ala., about 1824.
I have children of John and Sarah Ratliff Collier as: John S, Matilda (married T. R. Golden), Sarah Ann (married W. P. Morrow and she died young and is buried in Good Hope Cemetery, Leake Co., MS; tomb states she is d/o John Collier), Thomas, Henry (also buried at Good Hope), and Susan (married John Billingsly).
Evidence points to Sarah Ratliff Collier as the daughter of Zachariah Ratliff (born TN) and Sarah L. Adams. Zach's father was probably William Ratliff and I think he was in Anson Co, NC, before he went to TN.
As I said, I have recently begun working this line and I'm sorry that I can't verify all of this information. Maybe this will help and you can follow up with documentation.
A Madison County, MS book gives a brief statement about the Ratliffs. According to this book, the Ratliffs and the Denson family (I know from prior research the Densons were in Anson Co, NC) left NC about 1790 and went to TN, then later to ALA. and on to Rankin County, MS about Dec. 1827. The Ratliffs owned land in both Madison and Rankin Co, MS and owned a ferry and boarding house on the Pearl River at a place still known as Ratliff's Ferry. The Ratliffs were wealthy until the Civil War. Some of my other family members married into this same Ratliff family.
