I'm looking for help with the Coln family name. I have researched back to Thomas T. Coln born in 1835 in South Carolina (moved to Greene County, Arkansas). As of right now, I've hit a dead end with Thomas. Please email me with any help or comments. tonycoln2@gmail.com

Hi, Mike,
Somewhere in the bowels of my records, I have a charming letter from my grandmother, Louise Marea Coln Jones, daughter of Will R Coln, telling me about visiting your ancestors--and her mother made her give her brand-new doll to her girl cousins! (I believe one was Nadine) She never forgot it.
Will R Coln and his brother worked for the Rock Island Railroad. When Louise was born, Will gave her the middle name Maria to honor the new queen of his many Greek workers--but the local nurse misspelled it as M-a-r-e-a. To this day, that form is used in my family.
I have lots of family in Fayetteville AR and in fact am job hunting there in hopes of moving back to AR. Let me know if you'd like to get together and share family photos and such.

Thirty years ago, I spoke with James Coln of Dallas TX, whose grandfather and my great-grandfather William R. Coln were brothers. He told me that family lore said that several Irish Coln brothers sold themselves as "slaves" (indentured servants?)in order to come to America. He also thought that the name had changed once they came to America, but didn't know what it might have been originally.

My family tree, McKeague-Jones, has some of my research. If anyone has photos, please post them!
Thanks!

I am Tony Coln, my Father is James Dale Coln and my Grandfather is J.D. "Jay" Coln (b1923d1998) I am using all of the resources available to me through my college to research our family history. The problem is that my Grandfather never talked much about his family. His parent's were Walter Coln and Ada Liggett Coln. Walter's parents were Thomas Theodore Coln and Mahaley Coln. I know that Walter Coln died in Flint, Michigan as a result of a hit and run car accident. This is the only info I have on the family.
Re: COLN SURNAME

My name is Winston Wilson, my uncle served in a unit under the command of then Major Royce W Coln later Colonel Coln.
I was trying to get with Major Coln's family to learn about his carreer in the marines. He was the commander of Torpedo Bomber Group 233 first marine air wing during WWII against the japanese. On feb 14, 1944 major Royce Coln and his unit attacked Simpson Harbor and Rabaul where they dropped mines. Major Coln barely escaped with his own life but several of his pilots and crews under were shot down. The next night the high command asked Major Coln to lay mines in simpson harbor. Major Coln had lost 18 men and 6 planes the night before and stood up and laid his wings down to his commander rather than have his planes slaughtered again. His standing his ground saved many of his boys lives. Major Coln stated to the high command that the mission was not worth losing any more lives and the mission was canceled. In a history of the marine flyers of WWII, it stated that some Washington fool had put the TB233 in a mission to lay mines in a harbor while having to fly a very low attitudes and a very slow speed which made Major Coln and his men sitting ducks in shooting gallery. My uncle Willie Cleo Thompson was under Major Coln during the battle in the 233. Do you know how to get in touch with Major Coln's family. I would love to hear any stories he told about WWII.
Thank you Winston Wilson 140 SpringHill Drive Bardstown, Kentucky 40004 502 350-3842 winston.d.wilson@worldnet.att.net
