I know that this post is quite old, but if the information you have on the Vermont branch of the Colomb family is still available, I would appreciate being able to have that. My GGG grandmother was Eva Rood, daughter of Thaddeus Rood and Matilda Colomb. I would love to clear up some of the conflicting information that I have received. I can't find anything on her parents nor any verification of when she died. Anything at all that you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance.
Deborah W.

Very confused about Colomb genealogy. Have information of Matilda Colomb being married to Thaddeus B. Rood, and then I find a Domitilla Columbe being married to him. I would appreciate any clarification on this pair. Thaddeus B. Rood would be my 3rd great grandfater and I am looking for any family information on him and his wife that I can find. Also looking for information on Eva Rood who married Joseph Hurlburt, I think there have been many people linking the wrong person to their family trees because of this confusion. Thanks for any help.
Deborah W

Linda, I presume that you live in the Swanton area. I'm doing research and would be very interested in that family bible you refer. My wife (Colomb) relates back to Ambrose Colomb of Plattsburgh (married Marguerite Patnaude), he died in that city in 1884, through his son Thomas W. who moved to Rutland. We need to talk if you have what you suggest, 20 generations. email me at losderondes@hotmail.com. I hope you get this post as yours is 10 years old

No, you didn't say Antwine was French. My grandmother used to tell us that somewhere in the family line there was a French gardener who ran off with the daughter of a well-to-do family. Don't know if this was relative to Antwine and Bridget, guess I just assumed so. It has been very hard to find them in the census records because they spelled their names different and stated there origins different on each one. The 1850 Swanton Vt census record looks like his name is Austin and came from France, married to Bridget from Ireland. Interesting that there are about 6 years between their ages. Lists Henry, son, age 8. By the 1870 census of Harrietstown, NY it states Antwine came from Canada and Bridget who now is only two years younger from England. At this point, everything is pretty much a guessing game. Henry is married to Susan on this record and Frank (Francis) is 10 who eventually marries Arlida Carley who actually is a nearby neighbor. I haven't noticed that Henry married a second time as I was following the Francis line from there. If you want, I will send you the files that I have saved. Just let me know - you can e-mail direct @ lweaver11@tampabay.rr.com. Would love to get a copy of any pictures or whatever documents you have. I know that you had previously sent me some information and it was much appreciated. I just haven't had time to compile my information into anything that is presentable as yet.

Do you have any dates on Henry? My Antwine Coolon has a son named Henry. He was married to Susan McNulty in June 1867 and 2) married to Delia Martelle in 1899. By the way, did I say Antwine was French? I am showing he was born in Quebec (this is what is indicated on his death certificate), but I suspect his heritage is Irish. His wife is definitly Irish. I have a photograph of his daughter, Bridget, who is my ggg-grandmother.

I had just previously contacted Bernard, hoping to get some information from him, and I didn't know that he had passed away. He was actually my one and only link to the Coolons that I had found. Your grandfather was my grandmother's brother. From what I have found thus far, Antoine Coolon was Canadian married to a Bridget (Cahill?) who was from Ireland. Francis Sr's father, I believe, was Henry Coolon. There is a connection between the Coolons and the Noakes (or Nokes) family. I have a lot of things, just don't have anything in any kind of order at this time.
Hello.
Francis Coolon & Bernice (née Boyer) were my grandparents. They lived in Verdun, QC Canada although they both had relatives in NY. They had 2 sons-Bernard and John Milton Forrest Coolon (my father). Bernard moved to Portland, OR with his family in the 60's We remained in Montreal. We always believed our grandfather was of Irish decent not French. This is very interesting. They are all gone now and we have no history. Anything you can add will be appreciated.

I am a descendant of Francis Coolon Sr / Alida Carley, of Harrietstown NY on my mother's side. Her mother was Agnes Coolon Jacobs, one of eight children. I am tracing backward and would appreciate any information / connection you may have. I have located one of my mother's cousins, from whom I am hoping to get some additional information. As well, I see that there is a relationship with the Noakes/Nokes line but haven't had a chance to really work on that. I do have quite a few of the obits and some other news articles if anyone is interested. The eight children are as follows: Katherine Coolon (Leon) Smith, Thomas (Jennie) Coolon, Owen (Bertha Nokes) Coolon, Francis (Bernice) Coolon, Jr., Elma Coolon (William) McLean, Edna Coolon (Paul) LeClair(e), Agnes Coolon (Thomas) Jacobs, Almada Coolon (Arthur) Abare.

This couple appears in the 1850 census in Swanton. I, also, have Colombe's in Swanton, but not the same family. My ancestor is Antwine Colombe who married Bridget Cahill. They moved to Harrietstown, Franklin County, New York from Vermont. There are a lot of Colombe's buried in that cemetery. Pictures of all the headstones of that cemetery are on line if you care to check it out. I don't know the website off hand, but I'm sure if you do a search on Harrietstown or cemeteries in New York, you will find it. If you run into anything tying my Antwine to your Lewis, please E-mail me. I think they are probably brothers or cousins, but I have not been able to confirm who Antwine's parents are to be able to tell.
The spelling(s) in New York are Coolon, Colon, Coulon.

Good luck.
Brenda
I am searching for the names of the parents of Amelia Coulombe who was married to Benjamin Breau and lived in Swanton, Vermont in the 1860's. Her name is listed as Marie Omelia Coulomb in one place and Omelia Coulombe in another but always with the husband Benjamin Breau.
I, too, have not checked this site out for awhile and also had changed my e-mail address so was unaware or your reply. I have located a death certificate for my Antwine Colomb (Antoine Coolon on death record) that indicated he was born in Quebec. He died 31 March 1888 in Harrietstown, Franklin Co., New York at 84 years. No parents are listed on the death record.

I have traced Colomb to Vermont but am stuck there. Maybe you can help. My GGG-Grandmother was Bridget Cahill married to Antwine Colomb. They lived in Swanton, VT for awhile. I managed to find their gravesite in Harrietstown, NY (quite a few other Colombs there as well). I haven't had any luck getting any information from New York (i.e. death certificate, etc.)Antwine Colomb (1803-1888, his wife Bridget (1810-1890). From census, land deeds, and some surviving vital records in Vermont, I get the impression that Antwine came from Canada with a couple of brothers or cousins and that Bridget came from Ireland. I have no proof of this however. If you have any information concerning this branch, I would love the hear from you and would appreciate any clues you could provide.
Yes I believe so. I believe from my records that Antwine and Lewis colomb were brothers lived in swanton for a time with several other sibblings later who went on to parts of northern New York-Harrietstown and Proctor and Rutland vermont Originally from Quebec province some boat records from there migration from France to Canada but many of the canadaian records prior to 1850 were destroyed by a large fire. This included most migration records......That is a shame for ancestry researchers.. I will get together what I can for you from my research and family records. The Colomb family have many off shoots but came from the same geneology line originally. The families were very large. 9 brothers then onto their families with many siblings...You can see it grew quickly
