Hi Vicky. My name is Ray Mazzocco. My grandfather, Dante Mazzocco, was the youngest of 12 children all born in Forli del Sannio. His father was Annibale and mother was Rafaella Vitale. I know that Annibale was a blacksmith and is buried in the town cemetery. The family came to the US and lived in Rhode Island and New York City. Annibale also spent time in Brazil.

Not sure if these are your relatives. Sound familiar?

Yes, Columba means Dove in Latin (not sure I spelled that right), but there are also variations of this spelling in all the Latin languages which mean the same thing. It could refer to peace, but most likely was used in the middle ages as a name for those who raised doves. Still, I like the former instead of the latter definition. It was also my maiden name and my ancestors were from Milan, Gallerati, to be precise.

Looking for any information on my great-grandfather Matteo/Mateo Colombo. I believe that he may have been from Bonefro, Italy although I have no proof of that. He was married to Maria D. Vaccaro. I don't know anything about them except for their names and that my grandfather, their son, was Domenico Colombo born April 26, 1872 in Italy, died January 11, 1950 in New Rochelle, NY. There was a Nicolo Colombo that also lived in New Rochelle that stood up for my grandparents Domenico Colombo and Angelina Tinto at their wedding and was a witness for my grandfather when he became a U.S. citizen. I don't know if this was a brother, cousin or what the relationship was.

I know I don't have much info, but I am on a standstand with both the Vaccaro family and the Colombo family. Any information on either of these families would be appreciated.

Thanks

Judy Colombo

It wasn't a copy of the original certificate, rather a certificate that was recently handwritten of the information that was on the original. Standing up for them was Nicola Colombo. Nicola was also listed on my grandfathers application to become a citizen. I'm trying to find out if this was a brother of my grandfather Domenico Colombo or maybe a cousin? The application to become a citizen listed Nicola as living in Pelham Manor, NY which borders New Rochelle, NY. The only Nicola that I could find in the census is from New Rochelle.

Also standing up for them was a Maria Di Talli, Jalli, Lalli. I believe that the person who copied the application saw Maria D Lalli thinking that the period was an i. I can't find anyone in New Rochelle with the last name of Di Talli or Jalli, just Lalli. I also sent away for what I thought was my parents marriage certificate. I received a certificate back but it was for a Dominick Thomas Colombo who was marrying Matel Mae Kelly in New Rochelle, who are not my parents. My dads name was Dominick J. Colombo, my mothers name was Dorothy Martin. I remember my mother saying that my father had so many cousin in New Rochelle, that even he didn't know all of them. The grooms father was named Joseph Colombo while the groom mother was Rosaria Lalli.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking that Maria Lalli and Nicola Colombo had to be a family member.

Thanks,

Judy Colombo

Searching for COLOMBO family members in Los Angeles 1930s

My father is Andrew Joseph COLOMBO, born May 1932 in Los Angeles. His father was Lester William COLOMBO, born July 1905 in Los Angeles. My father remembers several COLOMBO relatives who worked at Warner Bros. studio in Hollywood during the 1930s in the lighting or stage hands departments. He also remembers a picture taken with him as a five-year-old on a sound stage along with several uncles, an actress or two and the canine actor Rin-Tin-Tin. Any information on these uncles who worked at Warner Bros. would be appreciated.

I'm trying to find some info on my grandparents and great grandparents. With all the family gone I don't know where to search for answers and was hoping someone on the board would remember them or give me a clue on how to go about finding info on them. I know that my grandparent were born in Italy and that they lived on 4th street in New Rochelle. There were 12 children in the family. I have no idea where in Italy they were born. I do remember my dad talking about it but back then, I had no interest. I do have my grandparents dealth certificicate and their obituary but they don't tell me much. It does tell me that my great grandmother Carmella (DeVito) Tinto was still alive when my grandmother died in 1942. She may have lived in New Rochelle but I'm not sure. My great grandfathers name was Michael Tino but don't know when he died.

I have been trying for 2 or 3 years to learn something about them and found out a little...but right now, I'm at a stand still. Any help or ideas that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Judy
I'm looing for any information that I could get on my grandparends or great grand parents. My grandfather name was Domenico and I know he lived in New Rochelle New York with his wife Angelina Tinto on 4th St. They had many children. I know that my grandfather came to the USA when he was 12 years old and he was born about 1872. My grandmother came from Italy when she was just 3 and was born about 1884. I know my great grandparents had to live here since my grandparents came over at a very young age and yet, I can't find a census for them. My great grandfathers name was Matteo Colombo and he was married to Maria D. Vaccaro. My grandmothers parents were Michale Tinto and Carmella De Vito. Domenico Colombo died January 11, 1950 and Angelina Tinto Colombo died October 2, 1947 both in New Rochelle, NY. Aside from the names of my great grandparents, I know nothing about them. Any info on these families would be appreciated. Thank You.

Judy

Hi Steve,

I remember my dad always talking about being decendants of Chistoforo Colombo better known as Chistopher Colombus but I'm not sure if he said that we were related to him or may be ralated. He told me a lot of things about the family but when your very young, who cares or at least in my case, I didn't care. Now I wish I listened. My father and all his brothers and sisters I believe were born in New Rochelle, New York. I know that my grandparents were born in Italy but I don't know where. I do know that my father talked of Naples a lot but I'm really not sure if that's where my grandparents were born. They both seemed to have come over when they were very young. My grandfather around 12 and my grandmother about 2 years old. I do have one picture of them and wish I had more. I also wish I had a picture of my great-grandparents.

Thanks for responding.

Judy Colombo

Their children included Josephine, Norma, Viola, Betty and Andrew. We believe the family descended from Genoa, Italy.
My dad's family lived in New Rochelle, New York as far back as I can remember. They are all gone now but I would love to know something about my ancesters now that I'm getting older and don't have much family left. My dad's family owned a liquor store in New Rochelle and a couple of the brothers were golf pro's. I would imagine my grandparents were born in Italy since I was very young when they died. I do remember that my grandfather had a very thick Italian accent.
