The name Colton is also noted in the Domesday book dating back to 1085 in England.

I think it's safe to say that any Irish Coltons probably can trace some lineage to that.

My Great grandfather Michael Colton came from County Laois in Ireland and they had been there for hundreds of years. But the name is supposed to be English. There is a large car dealership in Tulamore called Colton's. We consider ourselves Irish.

Your notation is a bit confusing. Are you saying Aaron was born to William Colton? Did William marry Nancy Ann or Hannah Dorwin? I'm descended from William and Hannah, and if you have any more information about their ancestry, I would appreciate it greatly!

Louisa Maria Colton is my ancestor!! She married a James Porter Scott Sept 29 1841, and they had at least 2 children, Mary Louise and Adelaide Elizabeth, the latter of whom I'm descended from. If you have any information going back from Louisa Maria Colton, I'd be incredibly appreciative.

Is there anyway I could get a hard copy of this record sent to me? Of William Colton and Hannah (Dorwin's) children?

I am the gggrandaughter of Anna Maretta Colton-daughter of Harmon W Colton and Rhoda Mauzer.Anna Married Morgante Pratt and lived in Walworth County and had 4 children, Sarah,Emma,James and Kate. They migrated to SD for awhile and finally Minnesota. Later in life Anna lived with her daughter Sadie in Oregon and is buried there with her daughter.Emma was my ggrandmother.She had a daughter Gladys and a son who died at birth. We live in Minnesota

Hi there. Thanks for your reply. I should have been more specific in my post though.

Quartermaster George Colton was born sometime between 1610 and 1620 in England and immigrated to the US. He is the ggggg-grandfather (add a few more 'great's') of a huge number of American Coltons. I should have been more specific in saying that I'm wondering if anyone has found out anything about his origins back in England.

UPDATE: have been able to find more information on this part of the family...only mystery now is to find out if Bessie Baer Colton and Louis Colton's son Barry was married prior to marrying Laurel Grant on Jul 08, 1979 in Santa Barbara, California....

Hello, I'm interested in the George Colton that you mentioned as I'm missing one from my family. Mine was probably born around 1820-30 and came to Canada about 1843. He appears on the 1851 census but cannot be found after that. Can you give me any more information on your George Colton?? Tks Wayne

My parents visited England and the supposed town of their origin a number of years ago. I want to say it was Colville, but I may be mistaken. My brother might know for sure.

I would be glad to give you information on Margaret and
her parents and brothers and sisters. Margaret was the
oldest of six. Her parents didn't like the idea that
she married Gifford Beadle. Her mother was Elizabeth Russell
and her father Charles Seeman.

I don't know how much you already know. I just found the
Beadle's a few years ago thru ancestory.

I can give you her brothers and sister information, there is
one brother still alive, John. There is also a Seeman
reunion in Huron, S. D. I think September.

I can send you everything I have by mail if you want.

Thank you for responding... I did find that Bessie married a gentleman with the name of Louis Colton, who was born around 3/4/1899. They had one son named Barry.

Louis was born in Russia and they lived in California. Bessie died on 8/22/1949 Fresno.

I am looking for more information on Louis and his family?

I never heard any of the boys called "Mule" That could have
been a nickname for one of them AS soon as I find the picture
of Aune Dolly and her sisters, will send you a copy. Will also send you some material concerning the O'Hara's.

Brubaker Colton. He is my dad's youngest brother. My mother & I used to go to Idaho every summer to visit her parents or my grandparents.

I remember Harold Colton but I did not know he was ever in the Navy. I know Myron Dale was in the Navy. He was killed on August 9th 1942 in battle of Guadalcanal.

You menntioned you had a picture of Harold in his Navy uniform. Are you sure this picture isn't one of Myron?Would love a copy of this photo. Thanks.

I hope this reaches you. Anna C. Colton married Harry or Henry Ambler. I don't know what happened to her. I have information on her siblings, who are my cousins many times removed. My great grandparents were married in Walworth Co. WI (Elijah Peck and Betsey Colton). Betsey was Anna's aunt. Her father was Ebeneezer Colton, her mother was Luceva Peck. They were all cousins.

I found four photos, there were others without names. A picture of the mother. On the back is written Lottie Colton Carter. A picture of a son. On the back is written Hamilton C Careter( son of James P and Lottie Colton Carter) Milan Ohio. A daughter On the back is written Elizabeth M Carter ( daugghter of James P and Lottie Colton Carter) Milan Ohio. A fourth picture is Cornelia Colton Cole (sister "Nelia") Detroit Michigan. My assumption is sister to Lottie. I found all but Cornelia in James Carter households in 1870 Il and 1880 Ohio. If you think this is yours please let me know.

Gifford and Margaret Beadle were my grandparents. Leland (Beadle) Holton was my father. I'd like to learn more about Margaret and her background. I have some written information from Dad's adoptive mother, Elta (Wiese Arteman) Holton, and might be able to learn more from my mother, if you still need any. Four of Margaret's other children were Alice, Chuck, Don, and Frank.

I have a Eliza F. Colton who was born 1818 in Derbyshire, UK and emigrated to Australia in 1838 and married Thomas Brook of East Farleigh of Kent in 1843.
The family story is that they eloped to Australia. I can only find a Jane Colton b 1825 who emigrated age 17 on the Marchioness of Bute in 1842 travelling with her sister unnamed.
It is possible eliza (Elizabeth) on her death certificate had a father George but I am not sure. She was a methodist.

At the recent Death Valley [California] Forty-Niners Annual Encampment, the annual keepsake given to all members was a 40-page four-color glossy printed booklet by Marvin Jensen entitled "The Remarkable Life of 1849 Death Valley Pioneer John B. Colton", edited by Judy Bedell and Jean Pickard, copyright 2007.

It's a fascinating read about this 49er, his accomplishments and his family. It also includes biographical info about his parents Chauncey and Emily Colton of Monson, Maine.

I'd happy to mail it to the first descendant who requests it.
