I am trying to locate descendants of Chris & Sarah Columbus who lived in Lavaca,TX. The town's name was later changed to Port Lavaca, TX. They were the parents of: Hubert, Roland or Rolland,William & Eatenton. My grandfather was Roland and he was the father of: Dorothy,Velma,Christopher,Horace,Georgia and David, who was my father. My siblings and I never had the opportunity to meet my grandfather's brothers, only other grandchildren who were unable to help.

I guess they don't post the private e-mail addresses of senders--I was going to try to send you one. My address is mpeter4253@aol.com. I would like to discuss with you and introduce you to others who have info--I am relatively new to the game. Your messages sounds like you have the Ensign newspaper article (which I have just seen). Many stories don't have the facts quite straight. Although there are a number that claim we are descendants of Christopher, there is yet to be much proof. His legal heirs died off several generations after he did and his estates and titles were awarded to his family in Genoa. The original Columbus came to New France in the mid-1660's and settled on Isle de Orleans in the St. Lawrence just below Quebec City. We have genealogy to his parents. Send me a private e-mail and I will send you more info.

Thanks.

Mike Peterson

Columbus descendants

Hello Tom:

Isaac Columbus and Angelique Dupont were originally from Quebec (married 1796), but emigrated to Toronto prior to 1804. They had 13 children, including Isaac, Louis, Harriet, Angelique, John (Jean) and others. I am descended from one of these children, born circa 1817 (from census records). Other children were born earlier, including one known to have been born in 1811.

The family name was also spelled Coulombe/Colombe. The Tanguay pages on the Web (try to the Quebec GenWeb site) trace the family line back a considerable period. Isaac (who married Angelique) is descended from a Louis who emigrated from France to New France in the 1660s. Louis was from the Normandy area of France, where the story was well-known that the family was believed to have descended from Christopher Columbus.

Isaac, Angelique and family were some of the original settlers of Toronto. Isaac's profession was gunsmith/armourer. Certain of Isaac's children subsequently emigrated to the Penetang area of Ontario--Drummond Island, for example, while others emigrated to southern Ontario.

If your Alexander was born 1789, he is not likely to be one of Isaac/Angelique's children, but there is the possibility of another family relationship (brother to Isaac? first cousin?). I would check the Tanguay pages--it will take some time to familiarize yourself with the format, but there is extensive "Help" available on-line to help you decipher the information.

Was a death certificate available for your Alexander? (Just wondering, as it might indicate parent(s).)

Hope this helps.

Clarence Columbus

I don't know alot about my family history, but am very curious. I was told all of this by my father, Charles Columbus, which does not know a whole lot about the family either. My great grandfather is Clarence Columbus b.1873, d.1967. He had 3 sons; Jack, Ted, Edwell, and 1 daughter, I think her name is Bonnie. Edwell (Ed) was my grandfather. Jack was married to Marguerite, Ted had a daughter named Linda Columbus. Ed had 3 sons, Tom, Charlie, and Dave. Ed may have been born in Canada. Clarence moved to California, that is where he died. If anyone has any information on my family history, please respond.

Thanks, Kali(Columbus)Roberts
