"The Pulaski Democrat" [Pulaski, Oswego Co., NY], Wednesday, 4 Aug 1909, p. 5:

DEATH OF FRANCIS COLVIN

Last Thursday, while on a visit to his sister, Mrs. John Potter, of Vernon, Francis Colvin, the eleven-year-old son of Mrs. Lucy Colvin, of this village, met death in a horrible manner. He was at the station expecting to meet his mother, and had been in the flag station with the flagman. When the car stopped Francis started to cross the track, just as the limited from Syracuse came rushing down. He had nearly succeeded in getting across when the car struck him and flung him to the south of the track. He struck a bulkhead and was picked up a moment later dead. His skull was fractured. The car was stopped and the lad was carried into a near-by building. Dr. Lewis, the coroner, after making an examination, allowed the crew to take the car onto Utica, while the body of the boy was removed to an undertaking establishment.

The body was brought to Pulaski for burial, Saturday. Mrs. William Gorton and Mrs. John Adams, sisters of the boy, went to Vernon to accompany the remains home.
___________________

Note: Francis was the son of Orin H.
Colvin Family

If any one at all can help me I would be forever grateful. I am trying to find my Father in-laws family tree, as a surprize! I have the living family and Michael Colvin's mothers side almost dating back to the 1700's. I am really in need of any help or information that any one can provide me with on the Colvin family. I am currently stuck at Clarence S. Colvin who married Bessie Winland and Louis E. Colvin. The Colvin family doesn't know a lot about their family. I do know that the family is orginally from Germany/Ireland. I know that they mainly lived in the Ohio, West Virginia area. If anyone has any information no matter how big or small I would be forever thankful.

Hi,

I notice with interest that you have information about the Bazett's from St. Helena Island and that you are also in contact with Shirley Bazett. I wonder if you could help me with my quest. I am endeavouring to find out something about John Bazett, the father of Elizabeth Bazett who married Watkins Greentree and their daughter Eliza Greentree in turn married Frederick Augustus Alexander who was my 4xgreat grandfather.
I would like to find out who John's father was - I think that John was the grandson of Matthew Bazett. I have a vague notion that John married Mary Desfountain and that Mary's grandmother, also a Mary was the daughter of Matthew & Bridget Bazett.
I would be very grateful for any help you could give me

Hello Jane,

I read your posting with great interest re Matthew Bazett and tried to send you an email but it failed and do not know whether it is still a current one. I am now endeavouring to get into touch with you this way. I am also a descendant of Matthew but would love to find out a few details that are missing. My 4xgrandmother was Elizabeth Bazett the daughter of John Bazett and Mary Desfountain. She married a James Greentree and their daughter Eliza married a Frederick Augustus Alexander. I can't find out exactly who John's father was - I think another John and his wife is also eluding me. At this stage I think that John Bazett was the grandson of Matthew Bazett. In fact, Mary Desfountain's grandmother was also a Mary, daughter of Matthew and Bridget Coales so I have two lines heading towards Matthew.

I would greatly appreciate any information you could give me, especially about the above and also any information about how Matthew got to St. Helena.

Kind regards,

Merle

P.S. By the by, you wouldn't have anything on the Alexanders?

Hi Barry,

I was very interested to read that you have been researching the Bazetts of St. Helena. I am particularly interested in Henry Bazett, father of Sarah who married the Earl of Essex and also John Bazett who married Mary Desfountain. I would really like to establish exactly what the relationship was between my John and Henry. I am a direct descendant of both John and Mary. I believe that John was the grandson of the original Matthew Bazett. Hope you can help me with my request.
Many thanks

Has the book (
Osceola, "Jewel of Tug Hill": A Pictorial History of Osceola, Lewis County, New York by Elizabeth Quinn, Helen Quinn, Lola Moore) ever been reprinted? From what's available online, it doesn't appear to have been, and the only copies under $200 are sold very quickly.

If anyone has contact with the authors, maybe you could suggest they consider using an on-demand printing service, even something like CafePress. There's no overhead or unsold copies that way, and they could use any readable copy as a master. I think there are a lot of people who would like to get a copy without taking out a second mortgage.
COLVIN, STABLES

I have a Hugh COLVIN b. Aberdeenshire [1856-1941] who m. Jane STABLES b. Aberdeenshire [1856-1936] in 1884 at Kildrummy, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Their son Hugh COLVIN [1887-1962] was awarded the Victoria Cross in 1917. Hugh Colvin VC, was b. in Burnley, Lancashire and believed to have died in Co. Antrim, Ireland. Following his death, his body was brought to Northern Ireland by his sister and buried in the family plot in Carnmoney cemetery, Newtonabbey, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. This would suggest the COLVIN family was from Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. I have no info about his wife or children.
