Classification: Query
Surnames: COMBS or COMBES----REMICK---SJOHOLM---
I am researching the COMBS or COMBES of Long Island NY. The area of the family I am researching was in Freeport, Hempstead, Rockville Center, Baldwin and Oceanside. Basically the entire south shore of Nassau County. However, one thing I noticed in the 1880 census for this area; it was then noted as Queens county, NY. But by the 1900 census, this area of Long Island was then noted as Nassau County, LI, NY.
I am trying to find the parental lines of Preston H. COMBES/COMBS. The family used to call him Uncle Bill. Uncle Bill was born in 19 Aug 1901 NY and died in Bristol, Grafton, NH in 17 June 1989. He haD two brothers that I knew of. One was Charles COMBES/COMBS who was a Bayman and live in Freeport. The other brother was Lawrence COMBS/ COMBES.
Uncle Bill (Preston) married Eleanor Charlotte REMICK of Bristol, NH about 1919 and they lived in Bristol, NH in 1920 census, where Eleanor was pregnant with their first child, Vira, born in 1920, NH. By the 1930 census, they are living in Merrick, LI, NY and now had a second child Richard born in 1921, NY. Richard married Lillian May SJOHOLM, of Hempstead, LI, and they lived in the Baldwin area of the south shore of Nassau County. And they had two children, Richard Jr. (aka; Dixie) and Karen. If anyone has information on the COMBS/ COMBES families of the south shore of Nassau County, NY please contact me at <gail_veve @yahoo.com> I have more info on this line if you are interested, but need info on the COMBES lineage. Thanks for any and all help Gail (REMICK) Veve
