I'm trying to find death dates and burial places for Samuel Dick Combest and his wife Frances/Fanny Porter Combest. Sam was born in 1858 in Pulaski Co., Ky and died sometime in 1920 in Oklahoma Co., OK. Fanny was aborn in 1862 in Pulaski Co., Ky and died after the 1930 Oklahoma Co., OK census. Thanks for any help.

Death of Mrs. Nettie Combest

From Troy – Bereft:

On the morning of the 7th of April a messenger, sent from the shining portals of heaven, foldee its tired wings for a moment and on its return plucked form the form of Mrs. Nettie Combest, her spirit and wafted it back to God who gave it, and now her form lies sleeping neath the newly made grave where the sweet violets are growing and the gentle zephyrs are playing in the City of the dead, where the sun casts its gentle rays by day and the moon her silvery beams by night.

While our hearts are sad and bleeding, our sympathy goes out for the husband and four little motherless girls in this sad hour of grief.

Mrs. Nettie Combest was born and raised in the state of Kentucky. She became a member of the Christian Church at the age of 14 years. During her sickness and even up to her death she was hopeful to the end. She was a devoted Christian, a kind mother and a true companion to her husband. May Gods blessings be with the husband and four little girls is the wishes of a friend to the family.

I just found out that Richard J. Combest wife, Eve, now resides in Lake Wildwood or Penn Valley, CA. She might have more info on Richard's life if willing to share. Trying to find an address so I can write and ask questions. Otherwise that is the limit of any new info I have at the moment. Dave [:O>

My great grandmother's daughter Janie Sachs married Paul S. Combest Sept. 1926. They are buried in Stoney Point cemetary, Collin county Texas. In 1930 census they are living in Collin co.with son Paul N. and daughter Mary J.
That is all I know about them. If anyone knows these folks
I'd sure apreciate the help.

Wethington/Grooms family in Kentucky

Trying to get family history regarding the Wethingtons of Casey Creek, KY. My ex-spouse James Arnold's grandfather was William Verd and grandmother was Lucy Grooms. James' mother has the Bush family name from Wolfe County, KY-- trying to get the Cherokee Indian history as well. Supposedly the Wethington family goes back to England and is connected to Elizabeth Croft -(Croft Castle in England)- The name Wethington changes periodically and was known as Whittington in England. This makes the family history all the more fascinating. Any info. would be appreciated. I'm compiling this for my kids.

Hi there. Thanks for your email! Bexay was my Great-Grandmother. Her son (my maternal grandfather) was Thomas Jefferson Allison. TJ and Martha Alison had three daughters: Roberta, Thomasine, and Geraldine. My mother is Gerry.

Who was the father of Willie B.?

At any rate, glad to hear from someone on this board. I have the Combest Book and refer to it often.

Please let me know about any/all other Combests in the Texas area. My family keeps up with George Washington Combests (TJ's first cousin) family. Robin Compbest Cridland lives in El Lago Texas and has one daughter, Jessica (30), and a grand-daughter, Madline (2).

I live in Raleigh, NC and am marreid with 2 children, Mac and Cate

My Mom's (Geraldine Allison Humphreys) Father (Thomas Jefferson Allison) and Robin Combest Cridland's Father (George Combest) were first cousins. George's Father and T.J.'s Mother were siblings. I keep in touch with Robin and her daughter Jessica, as does my Mother.

I've been trying to locate a book that Alice Combest (George's wife) gave to me when I was a teenager back in the lat 80's. I need to ask my Mom of its whereabouts. Do you have the book? If memory serves, its entitled "Samuel Combest and His Descendants"?

Hi. My email adress is robwhumphreys@yahoo.com. The book I have (its actually at my mom's house in Fort Worth, TX) is, I believe, Samuel Combest and His Descendants. She is coming up here for Thanksgiving and I will have her bring it. There are many Combests in Tx area, where I grew up. I know of no one in SC but the book shows they are all scattered throughout the US.

I am not sure where these Combest's came from, the Richard I wrote of was the son of William Claud, who was born in OK. William was the son of James Riley, who was born in Jackson County, MO and James R was the son of Samuel, whom I don't know where he was from.

Hi Norrelle, The maiden name of my grt. grandmother is Combest and as fair as i know she was African-American. Her name was Maxie Jones of Rose Hill MS. She had 12 siblings (maybe 13) and her parents were Stanton and Levetta(?) Combest. If any of this sounds familiar, i would like to ask a few questions if you dont mind.

Wilson, Kaufman, Texas. Her sister Mandie Leona, Willie B, (my grandmother) Albert Curtis died at the age of 6yr. Austin Samuel died at birth, Charley Franklin died at birth, OB is what they use to call him, his name was Oscar Bell, and there was one more a boy and he died at birth. I have some pictures that my grandmother left me when she died, of your grandmother, if you would like to have copies of them. Just let me know.

I am so very sorry that it took me so long to get back to you, (years) I am not on the message broad very much. But any ways I am at a stop to, but I did find out that Arrena is not her name it is Irena Mae Pitts. I found her in a Census. I am still looking and I am not going to stop. Her birth is Oct 10 1881 in Fayette,Tennessee. She died Oct 15 1961 in Cut and Shoot,Mongomery,Texas. And yes Please I would like to have what you have on the Queen Family. Oscar Lee, Charley Melvin, Charley Leo. Again I am sorry it took so long. 

Thank you so much for posting on the message broad. From your post I got the name of Thomas Jefferson Allison, which all I had was TJ Allison, and I got Alice Penick fist name which I did not have. The book that you are talking about, is that the “Samuel Combest and his Descendants” or “John Combest and his Descendants” I am a Combest descendant also, my grandmother “Willie B Combest” I am trying to find John Combest Mother and Father and I think I have a link, but I need to connect them to Samuel and John some how. Do do Believe it is their family but I need to know for sure. I am trying to get copy of the books. Also I want the “Baltimore Co Family” and “Baltimore Co Maryland Tax List” These will help me in my search. I hope we can talk.

You said you have a book, what book is it? I live in Southern Utah married and have 3 children. Do you know any Tisdales in South Carolina. I will share w/ you what I have found if you would like.
