Hi, I'm looking for DD Comer that served in the Nave during Viet Nam. He visited my home in San Jose, CA with one of my cousins, Hopkins or Hawkins (I'm not sure which one, there were many). I had a big crush on him as a little girl I've been told. When they went back to the ship or on to the next visit he left his sailors hat with me. I have kept it all these years as a treasured possession. It hangs on the corner of my dresser mirror. If anyone has a lead as to where this sailor might be please let me know. I would love to find out what became of him and tell him that a little girl loved him for a long time. Thanks, Pam

Wonderful to see Georgia Comers! I descend from Hugh Moss Comer to Thomas Jefferson Comer to Juliet A. Comer to Walter Little Zachry to Phebe Key Zachry Wheeler to Carlton Elthumb Wheeler to Robert Cecil Wright to me. I find tons of info on Thomas Jefferson Comer's brother, John Fletcher Comer. He apparently led the financially successful branch of the family. I can't find squat linking Thomas Jefferson Comer to the elder Hugh Moss Comer. Anyone have any info? The Mormon database says he existed, but no proof of his parentage. I also know that TJ Comer and his daughters were buried in the same Methodist cemetery in Monticello, GA.

I just recently passed over a message you left on the Ancestry Message board concerning the Perry Comer/ Sylvia Loomis family. I was very excited to find your message since recently begun trying to find my ancestors and have been having some bad luck doing so. I hope this helps you with your search.

I wanted to let you know that my grandmother, Melba Comer b1921-d1998, was one of Perry and Sylvia's 6 children. When Sylvia passed away in childbirth with her last child, Betty Jean, Melba was fostered out. She married several times. Her last marriage was to Marvin Dougherty and she had one child from it. His name was Cecil M. Dougherty born in 1942-d1992. My mother was Melba second and last child, Sharmaine May Quint.

Betty Jean Comer married a man named Roy Sykes. She has since passed away, however, one of her sons, Roy, and his wife, Cheryl, might live in Lenexa, KS. Their address is 8157 Monrova/ Lenexa, KS/ 66251.

I do have some info on Samuel. See below. We share John Comer b. 1675. Send me what info you have on John and I will reciprocate. Contact me directly at brian_winn@winnsims.com

"5 Jan 1787 (Halifax Co. See Bible Records below for further on Annis Comer."

Bible Records of Bedford Davenport from Va. State Library Records - Bedford Davenport and Annis his wife was married the 4th day of ____ month 1771 and lived together 59 years, 3 months, and 3 days. Bedford Davenport was born 21 November 1748 and departed this life 16 August 1832 aged 83 years, Annis Davenport was born 6 January 1752 and departed this life 7 Ma-1830 age 78 years 2 months and one day, Betsey Davenport their daughter was born 29 June? 1773, Stephen Davenport their son was born 7 April 1775, Smith davenport their son was born 13 December 1776. Nancy Davenport their daughter was born 23 March 1778 and died 24 Aug 1805, Rebekah Davenport their daughter was born 18 August 1780.

James Davenport, son of Thomas Davenport of Cumberland was born c. 1715, married Catherine DeJernette by 1747 and had children Bedford, Joseph, James, Rhody, Catrin, Mourning and Anna. He died by May 1780 in Halifax Co. Va. Bedford Davenport was born 21 Nov 1748, married Annis Comer, and died 16 Aug 1832. Their children were Betsey who married Thomas Douglas and David F. Henning, Stephen who married Lucy Green, Smith who married Frances Davenport in Ogelthorpe Co., Ga., Nancy who died, and Rebecca who married John Kent. James Davenport son of James Davenport died by Nov 1823, was married to Jane E. who later married John Nelson. The children of James and Jane Davenport were Betsey T. who married Charles Mays, Annaliza, Susanna Dejernette, James H. who married Margaret Loftis in 1829, Thomas T., Benjamin F. and Wilson who married Jane Goodby in 1830.

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas/genealogy/davenportjames...
- - - -
"Braxton Bragg Comer, His Family Tree from Virginia's Colonial Days", written by Anne Kendrick Walker in 1947. BB Comer was the Governor of Alabama (1907-11), US Senator Alabama 1920, died 1927. We are related to BB Comer through John Sr.'s son, Samuel Comer/Elizabeth Moss - His descendants all moved south to Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina.

I was scanning through the book again and was not surprised to see so many of the Comer boys, John Fletcher especially, has the Comer dimple in chin....No question. It seems to have faded out a bit by the time it got to BB the III. It really is a great book with lots of pictures of Samuel's descendants and their lovely homes (mansions, I would say). Good research, but as with all of us, mistakes are made! From Alice Comer-Meyer. One more note:

Chapter I - An English "Emigrant" arrives in Virginia.

"The Colonial records of the Comer family begin with James Moss, the Emigrant. Born in England, he came to Virginia about 1719 and settled in St. Peter's Parish in New Kent County. He married Rebecca King,......It is from the register of St.Peter's that we learn of the communicants of this parish who worshiped at the same alter with Martha Washington, and provides us with the dates of the children of James Moss, the Emigrant, and his wife, Rebecca. On June 13, 1730 Elizabeth Moss, their third daughter and fourth child, was baptized at St. Peter's. She became the wife of Samuel Comer, and from this union came the long line of descendants found in the Southern States today"

"Samuel Comer, the direct ancestor of the Comer family which settled in the Southern States soon after the close of the American Revolution, was born in Lunenburg County, Virginia....He was the son of John Comer, who died in 1767. The name of John Comer's wife is not recorded."

Comers TX, OK, and some in California desc. of siblings William H, Wiley T, and Sarah/Susan F.R. Comer

I am looking for ANY information on the following siblings: William Henry Comer, Wiley T (possibly Thomas) Comer, and Sarah/Susan F.R. Comer. All believed to originally be from Texas. I would specifically like info on parents if possible, but have no true leads on who they may be. Their DOB range from possibly 1845-1850.

Here is other info I have:
William Henry married Josephene McKinzie and they had the following children:
Oliver T. Comer m-Mary Elizabeth Scheiner (he died in CA)
William Henry Comer m-Janette (died in Marietta, OK)
Alvin Monroe Comer (also died in CA)
Georgia G Comer m-Emil Worel; 2nd m-J.H. Maxwell
Cleveland Clay Comer m-Minnie I Lane; 2nd m-Mary Alma (Mamie)Brown; 3rd m-Jimmie A Glass -- this is my g-grandfather -- (died in OK)
Josephine Comer
Ester Comer m-Robert Foster; another marriage later to unknown Gaebel
Herbert K Comer m-Sarah M. unknown
Lucy Comer

Wiley T Comer married Katie unknown

Susan/Sarah F.R. Comer I do not have any info on her I only have her name from a probate document from Collin Co, TX

Also from the probate doc is a Lucy Comer aka Lucy Ellston associated with an Allen Ellston. Lucy was made guardian of William, Wiley and Susan/Sarah. They were listed as heirs to an A.G. or A.T. Comer also listed as Thomas on one of the transcribed documents.

I have some other info on each of William's children if that would help figuring out if there is relation.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I know this is an old-old posting, but thought I'd respond anyway. I am researching Comers in Oklahoma and TX. Though the names you have listed do not ring any bells with me and I haven't found information that says any of my line came from MO. So, I am probably not helping you, am I? ha,ha...
I have also desperately been seeking information b/c I have been stuck in one spot forever!! My g-g-grandfather is William Henry Comer, brother Wiley T (maybe Thomas) Comer and sister Susan (or Sarah) F.R. Comer all born from TX as far as I can tell. I have yet to locate parents on them. They all were born btwn 1847-1850 but I do not have exact confirmation on those dates at this point either.

William Henry Comer married Josephene McKinzie and they had about 10 children: Oliver T., William Henry, Alvin Monroe, Cleveland Clay (my g-grandfather), Georgia G., Ester, Herbert K., Earnest E., Lucy, & Josephine.

Wiley T Comer married Katie unknown and I do not know if they had children.

Sarah/Susan F.R. Comer, I do not know anything about her I just know that she is a sibling because I found her on a probate record from Collin Co, TX.

Anyway, sorry if I was absolutely no help! :) But, if anything seems to fit remotely then contact me and we can look at this further. It has been kinda frustrating for me to be stuck in this area - not being able to find parents for the 3.
Jane Comer, b. 1834 Devon, England

Comer, Jane
b. 1834
High Bray, Devonshire, England
d. 1924
Warkleigh, England

Any additional information on Jane would be welcomed. She is my ggggrandmother.

Her listed birth date is the baptism date per the records of the North Molton Parish. The 1841 census listed her as 6 years old and living at hom in Bray Cross Cottage in High Bray. The 1851 census listed her as 16 and working in Higher Hole (in High Bray) as an indoor servant at the household of Peter Slader (farmer of 303 acres). Jane married William Gratton at North Molton in 1854. They lived in the general area -- moving often as was the case with agricultural labourers. From 1911 to 1924 Jane lived with with several of her daughters. She died in 1924 while living at Warkleigh (the farthest she apparently ever lived from High Bray.)
