I've only recently made a connection to my Comer line (since it took three years to find Minnie's dad). I've seen references to Augustine being a Revolutionary War soldier. Has anyone made a DAR record that you know of?
SharonW

I descend from
(1) Augustine and Catherine's daughter
(2) Elizabeth Comer who married Daniel Miller. Their daughter
(3) Catherine Miller married Medley Ballard, whose son
(4) Floyd Ballard (born IN) m Dorothy "Dolly" King (MO) and had a daughter named
(5) Minnie Jane Ballard. Minnie married Ellsworth Yost and their daughter
(6) Ople Marguerite Yost married Oscar Murphy.
VERONICA LAKE BIOGRAPHY

I'm researching the life of 1940s movie star Veronica Lake for a biography. According to the Social Security Application of Lake's mother Constance, Lake's maternal grandmother was a Frances Bridget Comer. Comer married a James Francis Ockelman. Now, here's were it gets a little confusing: Ockelman was reportedly the last name of Lake's biological father, yet this document clearly lists it as her mother's maiden name. (Most sources cite Trimble as Constance's maiden name.)

I'm looking for any information on Frances Bridget Comer Ockelman (or Trimble.) I have very little to go on - the only fact I know is that Constance, Lake's mother, was born in Brooklyn circa 1902.

Any individual that can supply verifiable information on Lake's genealogy will be included in the acknowledgment.

Thank you.

I am the grand-daughter of Constance Francis Marie Ockelman aka Veronica Lake. I am looking for information on her Father Harry W. Ockelman (of Danish descent maybe?). According to the information I have found he was born in 1893 in PA, died in 1932 in an explosion while working for Sun Oil Company (now Sunoco). I know that he lists himself as a veteran on the 1930 census, so I would like to know what branch of the military and when he served. Who were his family?

He was married to my great-great grandmother who also called herself Constance, but her maiden name is listed as Versnica Frances Charlotta Trimble (I believe she was of Irish descent). She later remarried Antony Keane, after Harry died. Did she have sisters or brothers? How where her parents? When did she die and where? Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

They both lived in Brooklyn, but I know that they moved around a lot.

I am researching my grandmothers' paternal grandparents, Michael J. Comer and his wife Elizabeth Hall Comer.
Michael was born in Ireland (county not known) October 9, 1853. He was a stableman by trade. Michael died April 25, 1916 and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.

Also buried there are his wife Elizabeth and their son William J. Comer, who died March 1917. The grave was purchased by their daughters, Frances Comer Trimble, Mary Comer Nelson and Catherine Comer Fogarty. I believe there was a Margaret Comer as well.

Our Comer family was related to the actress Veronica Lake through Frances Comer Trimble.

If anyone is researching this family line, please contact me.
Maureen

Comer family of WV

I am looking for info on the family of George W. Comer and his wife Francis Corey or Carney (b. 1796). Children I have listed are William (1821), Sarah Elizabeth (1828), Matthew, Joseph B. (1826) and George W. Comer (1825). William was married twice and had about 10 children from each marriage. He was born in Kanawha Co., and probably died in Jackson Co., WV. He was married first to Delilah Dawson then Martha Dooley. Joseph Comer was married to Anjaline ?. George W. Comer was married to Matilda Miller. Matthew Comer was married to Betty Fisher. Sarah E. Comer was married to Andrew Jackson Miller. William was my gg grandfather. We have very little info on his siblings or their families. Lots of blanks about others within family also. Any help ?!! Please e-mail me at friesel@speed1.net. THANKS.

Before her death, my Mother left a note that her mother's parent's (Maude Comer m: John A. Smith, Sr.) names were Philander V. Comer and Minerva Roberts. I have searched the web and found a marriage between the two in Ford County, KS, on Sep 22, 1886. I also found a Philander Comer (Holly, CO). I remember my mother talking frequently of Comer relatives from Holly, CO. I am having trouble finding anything more than this. Does anyone have any information regarding this lineage?

Thanks~~ Donna

I am trying to find out if this is the same family as Nellie Shifflett who was married to Roy Comer and living in or around Washington DC in 1947 when her father Bernard Shifflett died. Nellie was the daughter of Bernard & Fannie Davis Shifflett of Rockingham Co., Virginia. I am hoping that someone in the Comer family is doing research and will see this and contact me. Thank you.
Cathy Shiffflett Phillips

In May 1959, an Abby wrote to the Truhn family. Envelope and last name have been lost. Abby wrote: "I am writing to you because I was told by a relative of mine in Iowa that one of you is related to the Comer family from Lorimer, Iowa....I'm descended from a Jesse Comer who married Sarah Pearce from North Carolina through his son (not named)...some of his descendants moved back to Pensylvania near Pittsburg--not too far from where I currently live." If any Comer out there can remember a Comer descendant named Abby who lived near Pittsburgh, I'd like very much to hear from you. Kathryn Greever

William P Comer of Crown Point IN killed in South Pacific in WWII

William P. Comer of Crown Point, Indiana in Lake county was killed February 16, 1945, in the South Pacific during World War II. He is buried in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippines. We are seeking information regarding his military and civilian life.

I am a retired Hoosier from Madison County residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. We are seeking family and military information about servicemen from your county killed in the South Pacific during World War II. There are 17,206 Americans buried here and thousands more that are missing or buried at sea and are honored on the “Tablets of the Missing”. Please visit our website to see the beautiful memorial located in Manila, Philippines.

http://fizkid.tripod.com/

My wife and I visited the cemetery as visitors and left with a mission in our heart. We have been taking photographs of the graves of the Indiana servicemen buried here and have been uniting them (at no charge) with their family members in Indiana and across the United States. To receive the photo of your family member, neighbor or friend all you need is a working email address. We do not send them to regular mailing addresses due to the costs. Please help us find the families of the men that might still be living. Our project is only successful because of teamwork and your contributions are noted on our website. If you wish to help us we will be pleased to add your name to our ACKNOWLEDGMENT page on the website. The obituaries usually did not appear till to three months after the death date.

If you are not a genealogist you can help by just picking up the telephone directory and find someone with the same last name and give them a call. It has worked many times for us.

Zenas5@yahoo.com

Sincerely,

Dave and Apple Dwiggins
San Pablo City, Philippines
