Comfort family in Michigan

I'm looking for any information on the Comfort family from Michigan. My Great-grandmother was Francis Linderman(1887-1965). Her parents were Ida(1867-1943)and Charles Levern Comfort(1868-1938). Also buried in Jackson are Charles parents Woolston(1834-1901)and Martha Comfort(1840-1921). Also a Lynn(1866-1925) and Mildred Comfort(1868-1921). I can not find a connection with the last two to my grandparents. Any help with my ancestry would be great.

Seeking info on Julia, b 1826 in Greene Cty NY daug of Hiram and Julia Ludington. She married lawyer Geo Clark in 1842 and they had 12 children, 10 known: Hiram, Thomas, Adam, Henry, Eliza (m Wm Hill, moved to Va), George, Mary/Molly (married Chas Griswold, NYC), John, Anna, Eunice (may have married Jos P Acker). Seems Julia died abt 1910 at the Hudson NY home of her sister Charlotte & her husband David Ely. Trying to identify marriages of her children, find grandchildren in addition to Gertrude Hill Craddock and Julia Hill McDole.
Did she have a sister Helen who married Henry Hill? Another sister Caroline?

Henry Comfort in PA

Henry Comfort [1818 - 1867] was married to Sarah A. Krebs [1819-1884]. They had a farm in Perry Twp, Snyder Co., Pa. bounded by the Mahantango Creek (which drains into the Susquehanna River), just North of Liverpool, Pa. (North of Harrisburg). They were buried in the cemetery of St. Paul's Union Church (later an EUB). Both their stones are inscribed in German (Fractur style), so one presumes they were of German descent, as were the Newmans and Rauchs from whom I am descended.Henry was one of my GGG grandfathers on my mother's side. I am interested in tracing back further, but all the information I have is from "Aunt Martha" who's mother was a Comfort, and the on-line souces so far have not yielded new information. Any new information would be appreciated.

Robert Esch, kb3css@enter.net
I'm looking for information about my g-g-grandmother, Mary Comfort, who was born 10 Jun 1826 in "Upper Canada," married in the Wesleyan Methodist Church of Norwich, Oxford, Ontario on 27 Dec 1849, to Abraham Colborn.

The same date and in the same church were married Stephen Comfort and Mary Jane Parker. The two couples witnessed for each other. Presumably Stephen and Mary Comfort were brother and sister.

I have no idea who Mary's parents were or where (other than "Canada") she was born.
Hello Fellow Comforts

Like many of you out there I am a Comfort decendant. My g grandmother was Effa Comfort (1888-1975), the daughter of Willis Isaac and Helen Ann Comfort. I've been able to trace the generations pretty straight Robert J Comfort (1700-1736).
One of the major problems is names being mispelled on documents for example my g grandmas name most of the time is written as Effie instead of Effa and her husbands name sometimes reads Ferd not Fred and it throws me off. What I would like to say is good luck and keep searching. Oh if I fit in the family (perhaps a twig) e-mail me and let me know!
thanks
Dannele
savantag@yahoo.com
I recently visited the graves of Richard and Charity and have bad news to report. Their headstone is starting to separate. Jacob and Myrtilla's stone next to them has separated and lost its facing which was clearly legible two years ago. Unfortunately, the two infant stones at Richard & Charity's feet are missing also (they bore initials only).

These two headstones (Richard and Jacob) appear to have been purchased after 1888 since the scrollwork on both matched and I can find no other stones like them in the Wellsburg Baptist Cemetery. I say this as they are obviously from the same craftsman and it is not probable that the same stones would have been available in the 65 year span between their deaths.

I would like to form a committe of their descendants (Richard and Charity) to see if we can reach some kind of consensus as to replacing ther stone and disposal of the existing stone which has become nearly unreadable.

Interested descendants should contact me at bzyexec@netscape.com. With this Revolutionary War veteran's many descendants, I surely do not wish to take some unilateral action here and would appreciate everyone's help, even if it is only an opinion.

Ken

I recently visited their graves at the Roushy Cemetary and have bad news. The headstone of Lovina has broken in half. At first I thought this was vandalism since their graves are in the very front near the highway, but then I began looking at other similar stones and found several that had been strapped with iron after breaking.

I would like to explore either repair or replacement but feel that it would be improper to take unilateral action with so many other descendants. I would appreciate input from other descendants and I would like to form some sort of a committee to insure the stones are preserved. Please contact me at bzyexec.netscape.com.

Ken

I recently visited the graves at Wellsburg Baptist Cemetary and found that the facing of their stone has separated. I am not a descendant of this line but I would highly recommend that a committe be formed to take some action to preserve the heritage of this Comfort, one of the original settlers of Ashland.

I am a descendant of Richard and Charity who are buried to the left of Jacob. His and Charity's stone is from the same craftsman and I am attempting to form a committe to preserve their stone. I have a photo of the orignal stones installed c. 1890 for any interested parties.

Ken

George W. Comfort - PA & Civil War

Looking for info on Civil War veteran George W. Comfort who served with Company H, 36th Pennsylvania Infantry, a.k.a. 7th Pennsylvania Reserves. He enlisted May 28, 1861 at the stated age of 21 and was killed in action December 13, 1862 at the battle of Fredericksburg. It appears he was born in Adams County, a clerk by profession, stood 5' 5" tall, and had brown hair and blue eyes. Other than that, I know nothing.

Comfort Book

I came into possession of a book called "Comfort Families of America" by Cecilia C. and Roland B. Botting with contributing editors Charles Alexander Comfort, Mandred Whitsett Comfort and Jean Norwood Partidge, published by Brookings, South Dakota in 1971. I found the book in a used book store in Minneappolis. It contains information about families with the names COMFORT, COMERFORD, CABEFORT, COMFERS, COMFORTS, and COMFORTIS. To date, I have not been able to link any of my family information with the information in the book. Also, my book is missing pages 199 through to and including 206 which seems to pertain to the families of Robert, Richard, Edward, Jacob and Edmund Comfort. If anyone else has a copy of the book and has all the pages, I'd like to complete mine...it will eventually end up in the Genealogical Section of our local library. For now, I'd be willing to do lookups.

I'm looking for any information on Silva Comfort born Abt. 1838-1848 in Canada or Illinois, who was married to Harriet Foster. She was born in Nova Scotia, Canada on December 12, 1831. One of Silva's sons, Byron Gloyde Comfort, was born June 17, 1863 in Palantine, Illinois, the other son Wesley Comfort is shown in the 1920 census record for Palantine, Illinois to be born in Canada of English ancestry. Byron Comfort told his granddaughter the last name was spelled Kumfarte' (then) Kumfurt (then) Comfort. I'm trying to trace back from Silva, but have only a death certificate from California listing him as the father of Byron Gloyde Comfort. His country of origin is not shown. Any help would be greatly appreciated - Thanks!

Want to know if all us Comforts out there are somehow related. We must be, for it's not a popular name like Smith or Jones. How did we scatter so to different states? I live in Parker, Co. Merry Xmas to all you Comforts I've never met!
