Born Dennis Comiskey/son of Boxer Pat Comiskey/later adopted

I am searching for my brother. His legal name @ birth was Dennis Comiskey. Born to my father, professional heavyweight boxer Patrick Comiskey from Paterson, NJ in approx. 1937-1938. My father was about 17-18 @ the time, married to a Powers Model (older than he was). They parted, and Dennis was subsequently (according to the story), adopted by a man this model married. Dennis may have been born in New York. If he is still around, I want him to know that I have been searching for him for about thirty years -
want to share my life stories with him. Would appreciate any help anyone has. If he ever knew anything about his father, he may have been told about his boxing career, that he was Lou Costello's bodyguard for awhile, and that he did many films later on in the 40's and 50's after he moved to Los Angeles. Pat's brother, Dennis' uncle had a tavern in Paterson called "Comiskey Tavern", and sadly-ironically, he passed away in the "wee hours of St. Patrick's Day" with his green attire next to the bed in preparation for the next day's activities. Anyone knows Dennis? Would so appreciate information.

Terri Carter

Hi,

If you are related to John Comisky and his wife, Margaret (from Ballinasloe), who eventually settled in Long Island City, Queens Co., NY, I'd love to hear from you. Records state that John came over @ 1830, and came to NY @ 1853; he died in 1900 and is buried in Calvary in Queens. Margaret died in 1883. Their son, James married Sarah and had at least 12 children. There was one set of twins, James and Sarah. The only child I have info on is Daniel who married Barbara in 1910.

Searching for information as to where in Ireland my ancestors were from. My great-grandfather's name was Thomas Comiskey--born around 1850. He married Della (or Delia) Horkheimer in Prairie du Chien, WI in 1883. His parent's names are listed as Phillip Komasky and Cecelia Duffy, both from Ireland. Anyone out there who can help me figure out where they're from exactly??!!

I am trying to find information about my g-grandparents Patrick Comiskey & Mary (Lillich, Lillish). I know he was born in Ireland around 1879 and died in NYC in 1950. His wife, Mary (Lillich, Lillish), was born around 1884 in New York and she died in 1925. It is my understanding that there was a Mc or Mac attached to the name before he got here. There is also rumor of him being a very young stowaway.

My connection to Comiskey at Staten Island:

In 1889 Bridget Doyle Travers was widowed. She purchased a grave at Calvary Cemetery [Queens] to bury Patrick her husband. In 1899 she was buried in that grave with the surname COMISKEY.

In 1895 she had placed her son Thomas at Mount Loretto, SI.

Can anyone help with a clue to this Comiskey?

Thank you,

tom
Comiskey/Callahan Buffalo NY

Saw your posting. My ancestor was Mary Comiskey Gillett. She had a sister Elizabeth Comiskey Callahan. Their mother was Catherine Conlin Comiskey (later Norton). I haven't been able to determine her husband's name..it may have been Bernard, or Owen. Owen was listed in the 1860 Census with a Catherine, but Eliz and Mary were not there. The family lived in Buffalo, NY. My mother remembers a woman (wife or owner of the White Sox) coming to Aunt Lizzie's house probably around 1919/20. I believe that Catherine Conlin was probably married to a brother of John Comiskey (father of Charles Comiskey). She was born in 1826. The 1900 Census says that they came to the US in 1847. Any information would be greatly appreciated

The spelling changes from page to page in my families history, but usually has two M's, sometimes a U sometimes the O, sometimes an e before the Y. I always thought it sounded like a Polish name when I was growing up.
I am trying to track down a family who came from County Monaghan.

Anna Commisky Duffy remained in Ireland as far as I know.

Mary Commisky Rielly settled in New Jersey.
Elizabeth Commisky McCann settled in Massachusetts. John Commisky settled in Pennsylvannia. Bridget Commisky McCabe settled in Roscoe Illinois.

I know Mary was in the country before Bridget. Bridget came to the US and stayed with Mary until she married James McCabe in Newark on July 5, 1954. Bridget and James McCabe moved to Roscoe Illinois.

My family history makes it sound as if their parents were still alive in Ireland when Bridget left.

Match up with anyone elses Comisky relatives? I know Irish names were often spelled bunches of different ways in English here in America.

These are my Great-Grandfather and Great-Great-Grandfathers. Charles was born in County Cork Irelnad an came to New Orleans, La in the 1800's. I was given the year 1834, but I think that is wrong. He married Anna Murphy, also from County Cork, who immigrated about the same time. They had three children Charles, Margaret, and Thomas A. Thomas was born around 1870, worked as a Dye manufacturer, possibly for Phillips Petroleum. He married Elizabeth Langton who ws aobut the same age. Phillips Petroleum has no record of his employment, as they have no records prior to 1930. Thomas and Elizabeth separated sometime after 1904 with Elizabeth living on Staten Island, New York. Thomas remarried, but I have no information on that marriage. He was possibly living in Oklahoma at the time of his death.

If you can connect please let me know by the e-mail listed.
