FIRST GENERATION

1. Joseph* COMLY -i was born on March 10, 1740. He died on August 10, 1788 in Long Island, N>Y> (Thomas Hallet's house). He served in the military Joined British in Revolutionary War/forced to leave neighborhood. He was living in Moreland Twp. Phila. County, Pa..

He was married to Eleanor\Elanor BUZBY -i (daughter of Jonathan BUZBY -I) on January 14, 1765. Eleanor\Elanor BUZBY -i was born about 1745. She appeared on the census in 1790 in Manor of Moreland, Pa.. Elenor's in-laws, Henry Comly and Phele Gilbert 'settled on the Moreland Homestead, near Somerton, the "Green Briar Spring" estate, left to Henry in his father's will.
The Will of 'Henry Comly, yeoman" is found recorded in Philadelphia Will Book P., #206, signed 12-31-1771, proved 10-10-1772, mentions wife, Phebe, children Joseph, Jonathan, Joshua, Rachel, Phebe Swift, Rebecca Vansant, brother James, grandchildren Jonathan Comly, Phebe, Mary, RAchel and Sarah Comly.
The distribution of the Moreland tract was as follows: Henry Comly, son of Henry, seized of 4541/2 acres, made his will dated Dec. 31, 1771, by which he gave his son Joseph messuage & 100 acres part thereof- to his grandson Jonathan Comly... (This 'grandson Jonathan' was the bachelor Jonathan, son of Henry and not Jonathan, son of Jonathan. The latter was not born until 1779, after his grandfather died.)...he gave 80 acres- He then devised to his son Jonathan Comly a messuage & 100 acres of land or thereabouts, bounded by, etc. He also devised to his son Joshua his Mansion House and all the residue of his sd. lands (except a 10 acre lot to be equally divided between Joshua and Jonathan)." She died after 1797 in Named in Will of R. Comly, sis-in-law. She was also known as Busby. Joseph* COMLY -i and Eleanor\Elanor BUZBY -i had the following children:
