Commanders in Warwickshire

I have been researching my Commander connections. My GGrandmother was Amelia Commander born 1880, she had 3 sisters, Mary, Harriet and Ada. Her father was John Commander born 1849 and he may have had an older brother William and her mother was Mary Harmer (Docker?). His father was also John Commander and his mother is shown as Harriet (nee Harrison) on what I believe is his birth certificate, but I do have reason not to be 100% on this, would appreciate comparing info with anyone else researching this tree.

Teresa

Commander Family

I am searching for ancestors of Robert James Commander (b.1829 NC). The following names are in this family tree. Joseph Commander-grandfather to Robert, Jared Nelson Commander-father to Robert. Robert lived in Neshoba and leake county Mississippi until 1860 when he joined the war in Bossier parrish louisiana. He married Eady Louisa Williams from Leake county Mississippi. They moved to Texas between 1864-1870. They traveled with two men, Isaac G.Miller-25years old and Adam Miller-21years old. Robert James Commander and Eady Louisa settled in Tyler county-Texas and raised their family. Eady Louisa Williams-Commander (b.1844 mississippi d.1908 Texas), Robert James Commander (b.1829 NC.d.?) Robert Commander was suppose to have died and was buried in Town Bluff( woodville,Texas). There is no record of his burial in any cemetary in Tyler County at all. Eady Louisa Williams parents are a mystery also. I can't find who they were. If anyone has information on these people, I need help...

Captain Thomas Commander-Statement by Persons Unknown

Can anyone help, please? I am writing an article about Captain Thomas Commander of the South Carolina Guides and Pioneers, who was born at Monks Corner, South Carolina.
There is a quotation I heard and I want to include it in the article. It describes Thomas Commander, I think, exactly. It was made about the displaced persons from the Revolutionary War.
It goes some thing like this:
'There is not a town or village in this country (England) that will not have the dust of North American in it. Once this terrible war is over.'
That is all I know. I heard it at school in London many years ago, more than I care to remember. Does anyone know the full quotation and who said it? I thought it was William Pitt, The Younger or Edmund Burke, but I have been search for sometime now on Google, but cannot find it.

Dorothy Tooke and John Harvey d. 1679

I am interested in the family of John Harvey of Pasquotank County North Carolina. He served as a Colonial Govenor of North Carolina and died in office in 1679. His will has been lost. He married Dorothy Tooke of Isle of Wight County Virginia, they were quakers. In his missing will, he aapparently left his Kinsman Thomas Harvey, another Colonial Govenor of North Carolina as his executor. In the will, John Harvey left 1/2 of his estate to Joseph Matthew Commander, Samuel Commander, and John White. In 1696, John White had been missing for seven years after his 21st birthday and was declared deceased (North Carolina Higher Court Records, Second Series). Joseph Matthew Commander representing himself and his brother Samuel Commander, then requested division of the estate. In 1715 Samuel Commander of South Carolina sold his interest in the Estate of his UNCLE John Harvey (Pasquotank County Deeds).

The question is who is the Mother of Joseph Matthew and Samuel Commander? Was she a Tooke or a Harvey?

Deborah Byrd

Is there a Hancock Connection in GA, 1886

I recently received a copy of a letter written to my 3rd g-grandmother, Mary Ann Hargrove (nee COMMANDER).

It is believed that Mary Ann, b 09 Nov 1832, was the daughter of Thomas Commander. She was the wife of Allan Hairgrove/Hargrove.

The letter below was written to Mrs. Mary Hargrove from an aunt, Carrie Hancock, dated July 8th 1886 at Ceres, Georgia.

Does anyone see a possible connection?

Mrs. Mary Hargrove:
Dear Niece:
You have no doubt e’re this that I am not going to answer your welcome letter that I received in March. It has been impossible for me to write to you before. My chance is bad but I want you to write often. It is a great solace to us to get a letter from you. Jane and I live all alone and it cheers and brightens and awakens remembrances of the past when were young and you were all little wee things the delight of my hear and the joy and pride of my girlhood.
I hope that Sallie has done well for she was a sweet child. I received a letter from your uncle James about the time I did from you. He lives in Tex. He and Jane & myself are all that are left.
We have rented out the old place to some negroes. The connections are all willing it should remain as it is during my life time. A part of it has been sold for dept. Jane’s children are all married & have a house full of children. A good many of your relatives have died since you were here and a good many have married. Your Aunt Nancy is still living. Betty & Nan are both married. Give my love to John and the girls. Was very sorry to hear of your father’s death but we mush all sooner or later die.
My health is bad and so is Jane’s. We have abad cough.
I must close by saying Good by with much love to all. Write soon to your old Auntie Carrie Hancock.
