A Hance Commer warrantied land in West Cocalico Township,
Lancaster County, PA in 1736. He was very probably the
same individual who was aboard the ship "Princess Augusta",
which sailed into Philadelphia from Europe earlier that
same year. I have seen the name Kommer in the church book
of Waldersbach, Alsace, for records of baptism and marriages,
and he was probably from that parish because many of the
other passengers aboard the "Princess Augusta" were from
there. The family probably lived in the village of Bellefosse,
not far from Waldersbach.
Some of the people living in this area around Waldersbach
and Bellefosse in the 1720s and 1730s were originally from
Switzerland. This was true of my own ancestor, Peter Bruecker,
who lived in Salm (not far from Waldersbach), and indeed some
of the living French descendents of the Kommer family of
Bellefosse assert such is the case for their ancestors. As
a matter of fact, there is no "Kommer" (or "Commer") surname
in Switzerland, but there is a "Kummer" surname there. Try
looking at the microfilmed church books (available from your
local LDS family history centers) for baptism and marriage
records of such villages in Canton Bern there as Krattigen,
Oberoenz, Kirchberg, Inselspital, Wangenriet, Koppigen,
Limpach, Niederoenz, and Leuzegen for names of people that
you first found mentioned in the Waldersbach microfilm.
Good luck
