Hi there,
Grasping at straws here, and trying my best to put family history together, but can make no connections for my SC, VA and NC WEELDONS, WEEDENS, WHILDENS, WILDENS, WILLDENS, et al, AfricanAmerican/Native ancestors.
Somehow, the COMMODORE surname is connected, but need other info to find link.
Can you be of any help?

Hi Lizzie;

Couldn't help noticing you were looking for info re:Commodore. Emma Neddo was my grandfathers sister. My info is that she first married Thomas Commodore (is also under spelling of Conndore on ancestry site). They had 4 children. William James who died on 29 Jan 1897 at 7 months of age. Joe (no further info), Margaret (Maggie) born round 1887 and married Charles Cota on 02 Mar. 1910 and finally May (no info for her. I've only just started varifying dates and info for all of Peter & Sarah's kids. Emma married twice more. Once to Robinson (Bob?) McCoy and then to David Hollowood in Parham on 26 June 1912. One thing I should mention is that I noticed you received into from westwitch which is incorrect. Peters wifes name was Sarah Ann Elizabeth HUTTON not Hunter.

Somehow, this surname is connected to my WEEDEN/WHILDEN/WHELDON AA/Native ancestry, but have yet to hear from anyone who can tell me how.
Would LOVE to hear from anyone who knows of Nova Scotia and
Canada ties, as I believe the two places are relevant to my
research.
Have yet to hear either from any SC folks altho that is where my ggrandfather, WILLIAM LAWRENCE WEELDON/WHILDEN,
was born in 1829.
Such a mysterious family history---------can anyone be of help?

The May York you are referring to is Lucinda May Commodore. She was the daughter of Waldron Commodore and Melissa Reynolds. She married a York and when he died she married a Joseph Badour. I have been searching this tree for 15 years and have put together a book and pictures of the Commodores with war records, census records, some birth, death and marriage records. It contains 187 pages. If you would like to know more I can send you the information. How did you know May York (commodore)?

WONDERING if anyone is researching the above surname in Chester, SC?
I am finding that some WILDERS are WILDENS, which is certainly complicating my hunt.
My ancestors appear to have connections to COMMODORE, GREEN, SMALL, SANDERS, altho it is becoming quite difficult to sort out.
Believe given names include ISABELLA, LIZZIE, MARY, JANE, YORK and LONDON, CLARISSA, EMMA, HAGAR.
I do know that the CANTEYS and GADSENS were family friends in 1900 Hartford, CT.

I to have a commodore in my family tree but it is not complete this is what my 89 year old mother remembers. There was a Emma Neddo daughter of peter nedow and sarah ann elizabeth hunter, who had married a thomas commodore, and had three children joe, maggie, may, she then married a mccoy or a hollywood

I am trying to find May Commodore who lived with a Yorke in the Sharbot Lake area.

So far all I can find out is that May was well respected by the people there for her help in the community.

The John Wesley Commodore and Martha Robinson are my grandparents...they lived in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. They are buried in The Pas, Manitoba. I don't know much about them as they were gone many years before I was born (1947) and our family didn't seem to talk much about the past. As near as I know, they had 3 boys who lived ( John, Wilfred and Alfred) and at least 1boy and a girl that died in the Flu.Wilfred is my father, he's been gone since 1973. John and Alfred died in the mid to late 70's.

I am looking for decendants of Adam & Mollie ? Commodore from Chester, SC. Adam was born around 1864. Mollie's maiden is unknown. They had 3 chidren, John who married Nanie McClure or McLure? They had 9 children. Sallie who married Will Hill and had 5 children and then their daughter Jessie. If any one has any information on this line of African-American Commodores please email me! We are planning a family reunion in July 2005 in Baltimore, MD.

I am a descendant of the Commodores of Canada. I don't know if we are from the same family or not, but my ancestors came from the U.S during the early 1700's. They were of African descent. If there is a connection I have a lot of information that I have put into a book.

Out of curiosity I began looking up records of my grandfather Benjamin and Margaret Hollywood and I came across your message. Unfortunately I was never able to meet him, being born in 1957 to his son, Cecil Commodore and Annie Cox. I grew up at St. George's Lake near SharbotLake, Ontario. My cousin Betty Lake, had put together a family tree, I attended the reunion last July at the lake. She would be better able to answer any questions you might have concerning Uncle Joe. thanks Wayne, I have contacted Sherrie. I'm doing research on behalf of a client residing in England who is willing to share (freely of course) any information. Do you know if anyone has taken the Commodores/Quamadores back past Thomas and Joseph who appear in the 1851 Ontario census? To your knowledge, has any connection been made to the underground railway for example? The name is suggestive of Louisiana, though the two brothers (?) mentioned above could be descendants of someone who came in with the Loyalists earlier.

hope I can help. While searching for Commodore's from Chester, SC I came across a James Commodore in the 1910 census. Since we think those Commodores' are related to the Chester Commodores' I wrote his info down just in case I had to refer back to it. James Commodore was born around 1877. He was around 30 in the 1910 Census. He lived n Ward 7. There was also a Samuel who was 32 in 1910. Maybe you can help me. My husband's ggrandfather was Adam Commodore. He had 3 children Sallie, John, and Jessie. John is my husband's grandfather. He married Nanie McClure. They had 9 children. Do you have any information on plantation owners in Charleston? Is Adam in your info. Hope you can help.
