Robert who was your grandmother? What was Floyd's sibling's names? Who was your father? Where in Lancaster did Floyd live and why did he move to that area? Was one of our relatives living down there at the time? I know that my dad was born in Marietta, Lancaster County in 1930. Grandpa Kell's sister, Laura was married to Harvey Garlin and they were susposed to live down there at that time. Did Floyd's have a set of twin girls? That's what daddy always said. I know Floyd used to work at Masland Industries in Carlisle, PA. I also know that Floyd went to the McClure's Gap Scool in Cumberland Co. I look forward to hearing from you.

Betty,

There are others who have posted on this board who have more on Conrad's descendants. If you put Conrad in the search box, it will bring up those posts. No one knows for sure who Conrad's father was. Conrad first appears on the 1820 Perry Co. census, in Saville twp. I have a theory all the Comps in Perry Co. are descended from a Henry Comph/Camp/Comp who appears on the 1800 Tyrone twp., Cumberland Co. PA census with 6 young males and 3 young females in his household, but I can't prove it. My line is from a John Comp b. 1787 probably Cumberland Co. PA, d. 1873 in Bureau Co. IL.

Here's what I have on Conrad.

Conrad Secrist Comp b. ca 1797 Cumberland Co.? PA, d. May 31, 1873, Perry Co. PA. He married Esther Agein.
children:
Margaret b. ca 1817 Perry Co. PA
John b. May 7, 1823 Beale twp., Juniata Co. PA, d. 1868 Perry Co. PA, m. Alfred Barnwell Apr 14, 1870 Cumberland Co. PA
Andrew b. Apr 8, 1838 Perry Co. PA
Samuel b. Jul 21, 1839 Perry Co. PA
Joshua b. ca 1842 Perry Co.
The information that was posted by paboswell2 pertaining to John Comp born May 7, 1823 in Beale Twp., Juniata Co. sounds like my John Comp. Do you have any other information? Minnie Comp was my grandmother (daughter of George) whose father was John. Which makes John my gr gr grandfather. Do you know how or what he died from? Does anyone know anything about where Conrad came from? Susannah (Berryman) Comp, John's wife married 30 years after John's death a John Brown and lived in Wila, Pa. George was around 13 when his father died and John A. was around 10. George went to live with Morrows and John A. went to live with Martins. I am trying to find a connection with these families. If there is someone out there who has information pertaining to this family any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Shelly,

I am trying to trace a Comp family here in Oklahoma. There was a George A. Comp, b. 1875, whose father was John W. Comp, b. about 1840 who was from PA. The only John Comp that I can identify about the same age was in the family list of Andrew Comp of Juniata, Perry County, PA. John W. married a lady from Virginia. He eventually became a physician and practiced in Edmond, OK. George A. Comp practiced medicine in Manitou, OK and was quite a legend. He had two children. Anyway, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this possible relationship.

Floyd was my dad's uncle. Minnie was dad's mom. Daddy alway told me that Floyd had a set of twin girls and moved down to Chester or Lancaster Co. My grandmother was a twin of Harvey's. I have a newspaper clipping of My grandfather (William S. Kell)going to the train with Floyd to meet Mrs. Duty,(Floyd's new wife). If you have any info concerning Floyd I would appreciate it. Do you know why he moved to Chester? Did Floyd ever talk about his ancestors?
Lynnette,

I found my notes that I wrote down over a year ago and I do not have a census record that says William was a son of Abraham Droneberger. What I have is the 1840 Perry Co. PA census showing Abraham had 3 males in his household ages 5-9. On the 1850 Perry Co. PA census there aren't any young males living in his household. In 1850 William Dranberger age 14, was living in the Peter Long household. It occurs to me now that perhaps something happened to William's parents before 1840 and he was living with relatives.

The surname is spelled so many different ways on the census that it is hard to know which one is correct. William Droneberger age 25 with wife Mary A. on the 1860 Perry Co. PA census, must surely be the same William and Mary A. Drumbarger who went to Linn Co. IA. Sorry I can't give you anything more concrete.

Is your William the William Drumbarger who was in Co. G 202 PA Infantry during the Civil War?

How do you know that Droneberger is the correct surname? I found so many names on the soundex when I was researching that I was afraid to try to match any of them, because I thought I would connect the wrong lines together. Do you have a census or some other record that actually says that William Drumbarger born 1835/6 was the son of Abraham Droneberger?

I am really interested to see your source, because I have been unable to go any further than William Drumbarger born in Pennsylvania whose parents were also born in Pennsylvania, but was unable to get any records on them.

Anything that you could share with me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and have a nice day,

Lynette Drumbarger
drumbarger@yahoo.com

It's helpful to others if you post dates and places with your queries. I'm not from this Comp family, but I'm interested in where this Daniel might be from in PA. My Comp line was from Cumberland/Perry Co. I did some looking on my own and did find Daniel & family in Linn Co. Iowa in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census. I sure haven't been able to locate him in PA in 1850 though and I'm sure you didn't find him either.

Do you know if the William M. Drumbarger and wife Mary Middleton, who also settled in Linn Co. IA was related to Margaret Jane? It's such an unusual name that I think he must be a relative. I found out how difficult it is to find anything on Drumbarger/Drumberger in PA. Did you know there is a William Drumbarger who during the Civil War was in Company G, 202nd Pennsylvania Infantry? I'm wondering if this could be the same William who came to Linn Co. IA. I have a little more on when he enlisted and where the regiment was organized, if you don't have it.

Is the DRUMBARGER family line you are researching buried in Wilcox Cemetery, Jones County, Iowa ?? Many buried there are from Linn County. It's just a few miles from the County line near Viola, Iowa.

There is a Eva Drumbarger Cook also buried there that maybe related to a Cook family from this area.

Hello again!

This is almost as good as instant messaging.

Thanks for the info on brother George. I did have that, but I did not tie George and Jacob together as brothers (no proof until now).

Thanks to your information on Jacob, I returned to Ancestry.com files and have come up with this bit on Jacob:
JACOB S. COMP was born on June 24, 1845 in Juniata Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania, to Andrew Comp and Margery Miller. He appears in the 1870 Census for Juniata Township, as living with his parents as a single, 24-year old clergyman. Jacob, who entered the ministry in 1869, died on November 16, 1876, in Markleville, Perry County, after four years of service as a minister. Rev. Comp was buried in Walnut Grove Methodist Churchyard, Juniata Township, Perry County.

One bit upon another bit and soon we have a story.

My thanks,

Joe

The one that you are referring to (George Samuel Lee Comp) was
my great-grandfather he was married to Mary Lay(daughter of Samuel&Angelina(Drexler)Lay. George & Mary (Lay) Comp's children were Eugene Edward Comp b. abt. 1885, Annie, b. Aug. 1886, Ira E., b. Floyd, b. Sept. 1893, Minnie Florence, b. Aug. 3, 1897,(My Grandmother) and Harvey, b. Aug. 3, 1897. My grandmother and Harvey were twins. My grandmother was 1st married to her uncle James L Lay. When in 1924 he was kicked in the head with a mule and died. She married my grandfather William Shughart Kell. My grandmother and grandfather are buried at St. Peter's cemetery. Bridgeport, Pa.
I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “George Hodgett and Mabel Comp”, which I would like to get back to family members of one of the families. Photo was taken in Sheffield (Bureau Co.) IL in about 1891-1892, and he looks to be about age 2, and she about age 4.

I found George in the 1900 census for Mineral (Bureau Co.) IL, son of Samuel & Ada Hodgett, listing his DOB as June, 1889.

I found a Mabel Comp in the SSDI as born 6 Oct 1887, died 1979, with her last SS check going to Sheffield (Bureau Co.) IL, so this is likely the same person as the 4 yr. old girl in the photo.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to George Hodgett or Mabel Comp, of Bureau Co., IL.

Lynette,

I haven't looked at my notes on this for over a year and I'll have to search for them. I'm about to leave town for four days, but when I get back I'll look.

Priscilla

Betty,
I can't tell you how thrilled I was to find your messages on the Comp board. I am the great-granddaughter of Minnie Comp. It wasn't until I received her death certificate that I discovered her parents' names. I am very interested in sharing info with you. My grandmother was Elmira Lay, daughter of Minnie Comp, who was adopted after Minnie's 1st husband, James Lay died (kicked by a mule) in 1922. Minnie remarried William S. Kell and later George Turnbaugh. I will email you with all the info I have so far and we can compare notes and findings. It's nice to meet you!!

Re: George Comp/Perry Co.

The only George Comp I have record of in Perry County is George Samuel Lee Comp who was b. March 11, 1857 in Bealtown, Juniata Co and he d. Nov 4, 1913. He was married to Mary Ann Lay, b. Oct 10, 1859 in Perry Co and d. Oct 30, 1935 in Loysville, Perry Co. I have record of two children so far, but suspect there are more. The first child is Eugene Samuel Comp, b. Apr 28, 1884 and the second child is Minnie Florence Comp, b. Aug 3, 1897 in Plainfield, Cumberland Co. Hope this is helpful and I would appreciate any info you have on Comp's in Perry Co.
