Lina Compain was born to Louis Joseph or Joseph Louis and Elizabeth Compain on April 25, 1887 in Bay City Michigan. He died Oct. 28, 1940. Louis and Elizabeth were from Canada- they were native and I cant't find them anywhere in Ont or Quebec. Name Change?? We (Debbie T. and myself) have Tailleser as Elizabeths maiden name but can't find it listed in any genealogy records thus far. Louis and Elizabeth had 4 children altogether, I believe Margaret was first, not sure about the order of Lina, James and John. I have a bunch of documents that I will gladly send if you would like.
Sorry, but Maria de la Luz was the last COMPIAN in my family; she married my great-great-grandfather, Marcos Martinez Carrillo in Mapimi, Durango in 1861. I had never even heard this surname until I tracked her down via the IGI.

Hello Virgil,
No, I'm sorry I can't help. I'm currently dead-ended in Canada. What I can do is send you copies of what I have, the furthest is of Joseph Compain, born in Canada, April 9, 1840. I have no mother or father names, same for Elizabeth Tailler-Compain, widow of Louis Compain. Not a clue where Joseph fits in here. Do you have any native Indian Compains from Canada? Let me know your address and I will send what I have gathered so far if you are interested. Thanks.

My g-g-grandmother was Maria de la Luz Compian [b. approx 1835]. Her father was Julian Compian [1815] and his father was Felipe [1795]. They were from Mapimi and Lerdo areas of Durango. I just found the correct spelling of this name this week, as previous records showed the name as "Umpian" and had the family stumped for over 75 yrs. Have no idea where the name comes from or if it's related to these other French names? Please, if you see this, respond as this is great discovery for us.

I am also interested in all info relating to this Family. So far we have established that our furthest ancestor was a drape merchant at the siege of Orleans, and was knighted subsequently by the King for gallantry against the English. This title was transferable to his lineage "utriusque sexus" meaning via women as well as men, a departure from the norm. (c.1439)
Do you have any info on your branch? The name is not very common and it is said that these different spellings are usually clerical errors or phonetic spellings. Compaing meant "companion" in old medieval French, as you surely know...
Regards
Antoine Compin
Sherman Oaks, California

hi, Chere: I received the lovely pictures of yout family and I and my offsprings are so thrilled to see that we do have connections in the world - real godlooking at that! I have a lot bad luck with my service and so I am writing this with the hope that you get my lastest e-mail address, which is:egeros@metrocast.net. I lost your address as well as
annie's when I switched over, but at least I remember annie's..Haven't been too well lately - in and out of hospitals and have to have a few more tests. That's what happens when the old ticker starts running down. Hope you that I can get your e-mail address again. I still haven't learned how to send pictures yet, but one of these days you'll get a surprise!.....Cheerio for now, with much love to you all and to my dear friend, Clem..........Evelyn
