Hi Jean,

Gordie called me and mentioned you had been in contact and had responded to this. My friend Chris Galloway has just emailed the link to this thread! what a suprise coming together of worlds. I did wonder if I would ever find out about my Dad's side of the family hence the total lack of any family tree for the Compstons on my side. I even set up a Compston Clan group on my facebook account only to be sent rubbish from the U.S.A!

I would love to see the family tree if you have one available, both me and Gordie did a degree in History so thepast is right up our street! My gmail is thomasacompston@gmail.com so get in touch. I live in Holborn in London and am planning to go to Glasgow for my birthday on the 13th December (I have never ever been to Scotland!) and my mum, Maureen mentioned we could maybe meet up for a quick cup of tea or something we will have a car and I think My mum said you were in Edinburgh?

All the best

Tommy - 07792 747 011

Thank you so much Patrick! I am an amateur at this, and recently jointed Ancestry.com, because quite honestly, I have gotten hooked on this! I ran across the original marriage certificate between Iva Mae Compston to Harry B. Compston in Catlettsburg, KY on April 15, 1911, and posted the information on the Zimmerman Family Tree site that I have been working on. I am gathering what items I have, and I am going to post them on the site in the very near future to provide others with additional information. My half sister ended up taking photos of Harry Vinton Zimmerman and his wife when my mother passed on, and unfortunately, I have no contact with her. The re-spelling of the Compston name really threw me; however, thanks to your postings that I ran across on this site, I was able to piece alot of things together. Does this mean that we are also related to Jacob Zimmerman (1822-1910)? Thank you once again, Patrick.

Hi:
I have a bit of info on the Compstons from Delaware Ohio. My mother was Ruth Eileen Compston-my grandmother was Iva Mae Zimmerman Compston, and my grandfather was Harry C. Compston. Bennie Compston and his wife, Della, were my uncle and aunt. I just began really researching, but I do have some items from my mother that she gave me before she passed away. Anything I can provide you with, I will be happy to do so; I did start a Zimmerman Family Tree, as well as a Craven-Jones Tree that I have been filling in. This makes us relatives!

They were born in Hangingshaw Glasgow in a family of 14 children whose parents were Arthur and Christina Compston. I have a brother called Arthur and a sister called Lily. My parents were Archie and Lily Compston. I have researched the family tree and have everybody listed right back to when they came from Ireland in the 1700s. I only came across your request today and I know it's a long time since you first posted your request. I will send the family tree to you if you get in touch. Cheers, Jean

Thanks for answering my message. I'm still searching for info on Isaac's origins. I know that George Allen and
all his brothers and sisters were born in southern Ohio; Isaac even owned some land there but lost it because
of mineral rights. We probably have lots of relatives still down there. Grandpa married a girl just over the state
line in Mason Co. That's probably when they moved to Mason Co. I don't know if his father, Isaac, went too. I
think some of his brothers went. My dad said they were tenant farmers until the time them came back to Ohio.
Dad said that was in 1910 when he was 5 years old. He even showed me the house they lived in. Great grandpa
Isaac's father's name was Henry. What I'm trying to learn is where he lived and if I could trace it back even
farther. I guess people back then were so busy living, they didn't worry about keeping records. My brother has
the family bible but that is only for George Allen and family. I've heard that most of the Compstons came from
England and some migrated to Germany before coming to America. Would you have any info past Isaac?
Would love to hear from you regardless. DAustin@copper.net

I'm sorry about the double post I did earlier. I think
there were two George Compstons in Delaware. I looked up
Benjamin Compston who married Iva Zimmerman and the father's
name was George Compston, wife unknown. Their son Harry
Benjamin married Iva and had 5 Children; Floyd Herbert,
Bennie Vinton, Donald Leroy, Eileen Ruth, and Vivian Orpha.
The computer says that Bennie's grandfather George's father
is unknown. I believe there were two different George
Compston in Delaware. Somewhere along the line my grand-
father changed the spelling to read Comston. My great,
grandfather was Isaac. They came from Mason Co. wv and
Isaac had another son, Isaac Newton, who moved to Delaware
too, but he only had one child. In my mind, I can still
see my grandfather George Allen sitting at the table eating
peas from a knife and wondered how he did that. He had
a very large mustach. I hope I didn't seem to argue but
I know my grandfather was George Allen; my brother is named
after him. Dorothy
I just happened upon your response about the Compstons from
Delaware OH. I, too, am of that family. However, I queston
something you said. If I understood correctly, you said that Benjamin (Bennie) was a son of George Allen. George
Allen and Katherine Marie had 8 children, of which my dad
was one. They were Harry, Howard, Fred, Margaret, Ann, John Allen, Clyde, and William Russell. Clyde was my
dad. The parents, and Clyde and Russell are buried at Oak Grove

Cemetery in Delaware. My dad, brothers, and family all
spelled their name Comston. I had a lot of trouble tracing
this family. After I read the cemetery records that my
grandfather's fathers name was Isaac, I began trying other
spellings and found out a lot more. http://www.interment.net/data/us/oh/delaware/oakgrove/oakgro... You will find them here. Also,If you look at Rootsweb
searches under George A Comston, you can see what I found.
Dorothy

Hi, I am so sorry that I have not gotten back with you. I have had computer problems since July.
I am afraid that I do not have the info that you are looking for. The furthest back I go is Ozzie Compston (also Osa) b. 1869 d. 1930. married Sarah Myrta Lantz b. 1873 d. 1956. Lived in Jackson Co. Ohio. But I have traced the Compston line to Lawrence Co. Ohio. I do believe that there is a link to an Isaac and Hester Compston from that area. (Symmes Creek). STOP THE PRESS!! I just found a Jacob listed with these people in the 1850 cencus of Lawrence Co, OH. says he is born 2-14-1844 d. 8-291907. You might check this out.

There are other variations in spelling also. Comstin, Compton, Cumston.... I do believe we will find quite a bit in Lawrence Co. though. If you wish to keep in touch please do so. I hope my email will stay up.

Kelly

I was wondering if anyone might have Jacob Compston b. 14 Feb 1844 in their records. I'm afraid that I don't have much more information than that on him. His daughter Julia Ann was my gg grandmother. My g aunt remembers her and most of her siblings. She also knew Jacob was her father and Elizabeth Payton was her mother. I am not sure if Jacob was born in Ohio, but according to my aunt, he had children in Arabia, Ohio in 1874 and 1877, then he moved to Cow Skin Prairie, Missouri and had 5 more children between 1880 and 1893. He died in Oklahoma 29 Aug 1907. Thank you for any help you can offer.
