It certainly does look likely that we share a grandfather. We got a copy of his birth certificate from the Family Records Centre, and the address is the same.
Alfred is my mothers father, he and her mother divorced when she was little and they lost contact with him. We would very much like to know, is he still alive?
I'd like to find out more about this, my email address is: ama_mensima@hotmail.co.uk Use that if you want, to save going via the message boards.

Emily

Hi emily,
In reply to you I find something quite unbelievable, my grandfather was called Alfred Thomas was born 9 may 1917 but at 192 Farmers Rd in Camberwell which would be under that district.
Also my great grandfather was called walter francis who married florence beak in 1899 is this just a coincidence??
please reply mike

Hello Mike,

My grandfather was a Conabeer, ALFRED THOMAS conabeer, born 9 may 1917 in Brixton, London. His father, WALTER FRANCIS was also born in London.

As far as I can tell, Conabeer with this spelling originates in Devon, with quite a few moving to London and Surrey. It's likely that this spelling is related to other spellings, such as Conibear, so it might be worth researching into them too.

Good luck,
Emily Sloyan
