Thanks a bunch! Sarah, dau. of Simeon and Nancy Conaway, married John Gregg, son of John and Nancy Gregg, per your info. (Incidentally, I have traced and documented the Conaway line back to the patriarch of this family tree, Joseph Conaway of Anne Arundel Co., MD, who arrived and settled in the new Maryland colony in 1659).

Now, here is where it gets confusing for me: Sarah had a brother, Mordecai, who married Jemima Gregg, dau. of who? Sarah had another brother, James D., who married Eliza Jane Gregg, dau. of? Sarah also had a brother Amos, who married Mary Jane Gregg, dau. of? (I think Mary Jane is the daughter of Jacob & Ann Gregg). So far I have come up with (1) John and Nancy Gregg (your info); (2) William and Mary Jane nee Ballard Gregg; and (3) Jacob and Ann Gregg. Are John, William, and Jacob the original three brothers? and if so, which brother goes with which Gregg daughters who married the Conaway sons?

I am doing extensive research for the second edition of my book, The Conaways of Maryland (first edition published in 2006). I am trying to make it as complete and accurate as possible, with biographical notes, and source documentaion.

Also, if you know of the children of these Conaway/Gregg unions it would be most appreciated, even descedants that bring it into the early to mid 1900's. Needed are spouses, spouses parents, dates and places of birth and deaths, marriage dates and places If email correspondence is preferred, let me know.

Thanks for the info on the name of Simeon Conaways parents. Simeon and Nancy Davis Conaway were the parents of Sarah Conaway who married John Gregg, the son of John and Nancy Gregg Gregg.John and Nancy Gregg Gregg descend from William Gregg, one of the three Gregg brothers who migrated to Pa. in the 1770s from Ireland. That is all the info I have on the Conaway family.John and Sarah Gregg were the parents of my grandfather William Henry Gregg born East Pike township,Washington,Pa. in 1853.He and his brothers and my grandmother, who was the daughter of John Rimmel,Fayette county Pa.,born 1858, moved to Metz,Vernon county,Mo., in 1880,and then William and his wife Eliza Jane(Lide) Rimmel Gregg,my grandparents, moved to Xenia,Bourbon county Kansas, where my father Archie Gregg was born in 1906 and I was born in 1948.A few years back I visited Washington county,Pa.,and the site of the original Gregg homestead.EXCITING!!Donna Gregg Koenecke,Kansas

I have been doing more indepth research on this my Conaway family line and my current investigation involves the Conaways from MD to Fayette Co., PA. I also am having trouble sorting out the Gregg families with whom they married into. This is for my second edition of "The Conaways of Maryland". Simeon was the son of Joshua Conaway of Baltimore Co., MD, and Susannah Brothers. Simeon married Nancy Davis in 1824 in Fayette Co., PA. I only found six children for them (Sarah, Mordecai, Susannah, James D., Amos, and Margaret). In all my research I have yet to tie any of these siblings with a John. It is odd but you are the second person that I know of who is seeking a link between this John and Simeon. It is quite possible that this John came out of Virginia (West Virginia) and not directly from MD. Or perhaps he is a cousin. What causes you to believe John and Mordecai are related? Have you found something that I have missed or overlooked? Thanks.

I doube you still are checking posts to your 2002 inquiries. However, here's hoping. I am also researching the Conaway/Jackson connection. By the way, anestry has Turner and Jane Jackson marrying in Oct 1839 in Upson County. ??? Why would he travel half way across Ga to marry?? Here's the puzzle I trying to solve. First, was his wife Jane or Mary the daughter of Aaron Jackson as so many believe. Aaron Jackson's Will written in June 1840 in Warren County lists 9 children. He has daughters named Mary AND Jane. He does not refer to them with a married name as he does with another daughter Lydia Taylor and her 4 named children. I don't know what documentation people are using to connect Turner's wife to Aaron Jackson. It does appear that Turner was married twice and could have married sisters (Jane and then Mary. It is strange that a marriage record is found for the 1849 marriage & not the 2nd. Some people have the wife listed as Mary Jane Jackson.
Would appreciate your thought on this. Ann Hill in Dallas.
P.S. I am researching Turner's daughter, Ann Elizabeth who mmarried Henry A. Wynn and moved to Dallas,Tx. She died in 11921 and I have her obituary.

I am a Baltimore Conway from this family. A HUGE portion of my family is buried at Mt Olivet in west Baltimore (i have found a good 40 family plots or so). This cemetery is run by Lovely Lane church which used to be called First Methodist Episcopal Church and was my families church. If you were to look up Lovely Lane, they have a downloadable PDF file of all of the interment records. I am fairly sure that I have come across the name Addison in these records.

My maiden name is Conway and my family has resided in Federal Hill at least as far back as 1833. I know that my fourth great grandparents were a Charles and Elizabeth Conway (sometimes spelt Conaway), and I hugely suspect that he was the son of John Spann and Rachel.

Does anyone have any info on Charles Conaway? I do know that my fourth great grandfather was born in Maryland and that my third great grandfather and all of his siblings were born in Baltimore. His wife Elizabeth lived with my third great grandparents John Conway and Celestine LaBarrer. John was born in 1813 and all three are buried together at Mt Olivet. Elizabeth would have died in 1863 and Charles would have died before 1840.

Does this sound like it could be a match? And does anyone know the maiden name of this Elizabeth?

The last I see of my Charles Conaway is in the 1833 baltimore census where he is listed as being a fisherman on the corner of William and Cross Streets. This has been my families home until 1999 when my father sold the house.

Any information on Charles, the son of John Spann would be HUGELY appreciated.

Thanks,
Stacey Conway-Haza

My maiden name is Conway and my family has been in Federal Hill for many generations. I have very good reason to believe that I am from this same line of Conaways and hope to find a connection. I have not traced back very far...the farthest back I have traced is to my third great grandfather John Conway born 1813 in Baltimore and his siblings whom all also were born within the city and are listed as lifetime residents in death records.

My early ancestors are buried at Mt Olivet. Does anyone know of a link between the Conaways of Middlesex, England and my Conways of Mt Olivet? I do know that both families attended the same church (First Methodist Evangelical Church which is now Lovely Lane).

Joseph Conaway (b:1845?) - who were his parents? ... did he have any siblings?

I have identified a Joseph Conaway (b:1845 d:1926) and Rebecca J Kerns of Marion Co. WVa as my 3rd great grandparents.

In attempting to research Joseph, I have found in records that his father's name is Charles, but that is where it all gets unclear. I do not have a name for Joseph's mother and there were a couple Charles Conaways in West Virgina around that time ... a Charles H., a Charles I., and maybe even another, but none of them have any link in census records to a Joseph Conaway. Could any of these be Joseph's father? Charles H. shows up with a son named John on the 1850 Marion Co. census who would be the same age as my Joseph (5 years old at the time) ... could Joseph & John be the same person?

Is anyone familiar with the Conaway family line mentioned above? I would greatly appreciate a note back with any clues that might help me sort this out.
Henry Yates Conaway From Delaware, USA

Can you help solve a decades long mystery? My family has several, and this is just another...

I'm looking for the family of Henry Yates Conaway, my M3GGF, supposedly from Delaware. His line cannot be traced before him, and I don't see anyone online that has any information about him. This line has Native Americans somewhere, and I'm trying to narrow down who it is.

The line to me is as follows:

M3GGF - Henry Yates Conaway, abt 1826 - 1896
M2GGM - Annie Rita Conaway 1853-1917
MGGF - Arthur W. Cannon 1892 -1972
MGM - Lester Cannon
M
Me

Does anyone recognize them, and do you know of any tribal affiliations they had, whether formal or informal? Arthur was most definitely an Indian - photos attached. He was listed as a "negro" on his WWII Draft Registration card, and he was said to be "something other than white".

thanks in advance

I made contact with a Conaway descendant a few months ago who was on a mission trip at that time. He asked that I contact about now and he would send a picture of an early Conaway ancestor. I do not remember his name. I am researching a Conaway who married a Tracy. My computer crashed, taking with it all of my email and addresses. I hope he sees this and will contact me at new email annesoneal@yahoo.com.
Anne O'Neal

I recognize them. We have been trying to tie our Conaway line to them.I knot several people working this line. Some of the descendants from this family have DNA tested. I have some documentation on the family. They came from South Carolina to Cherokee Alabama. The mother Elizabeth Conaway drew for land lottery for her children as a widow of a Rev. War soldier. No indication of American Indian I saw, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Check out these sites
http://pages.prodigy.net/blankenstein/Conaway.htm - go to Elizabeth at the top of the page
http://pages.prodigy.net/blankenstein/the_conaway_homepage.h...
http://pages.prodigy.net/blankenstein/conway_conaway_connawa...
my e-mail is blankenstein@prodigy.net

Dianne Conaway Blankenstein

I asked in my original post if the Conaways who were in Cherokee Co., AL were Native Americans. This John Conaway,II, was born in GA in 1836 and died 1900. He was married to Hannan Boston, b. 1845 in York Dist, SC. His father was John Conaway, I, born 1795, place unk and his mother was Cynthia Poor, born 1799, place unk. I do not have the name of either John's siblings. So this is where my research ends on the early Conaways. I hope someone will recognize these names. Anne O'Neal

I hope you are still on this website. My grandmother is Anna Bendrick, aka Bednarick. Many years ago the name was misspelled and it stuck. You have many people in the part of your family tree I saw who I know by name and are related unless it is a huge coincidence.

I am Marty Brown and I live in Canton, IL. We used to bring grandma up to Kangley to visit Aunt Madeline. Your name is familiar, although I doubt we have seen or talked to each other for more than 30 years. If we are related, I have some additional family tree info to share, but not alot.

My email is mvbrown@comcast.net. My username on here is mvbrown52, so you can look it up to check it yourself.

I am trying to find out if this family was Native Americans. Their daughter, Nancy, b. 9 Feb 1872 in Cherokee Co., AL., married William Bird Tracy in Cherokee Co 3 Nov 1895. William and Nancy had a daughter, Myrtle Alene, b 4 Mar 1898. William died in Cherokee Co on 17 Jun 1899. Nancy died after the 1900 census. Alene was in the household of a relative in the 1910 census. Alene looked like she had Indian in her. Any information on these is appreciated.
