The 1925 Iowa Census lists her parents as Oscar Cone and Annie McClung.

On Familysearch.org her marriage record also lists them as her parents.

I don't know where the name "Alice" appears, but my guess is that Mary L. is your Lulu.

Sharon: I am the gggranddaughter of Fatama Susan Cone. She was Jesse's daughter. I would like to know who her mother was. I see several family trees on Ancestry.com who name Sarah Bailey, but do not find any evidence to corroborate this. My mtDNA shows a strong and consistent Jewish ancestry, which came as quite a surprise to both my mother and me. You mention that you have copies of marriage certificates. Would you be willing to share them?
Regards, Johanna Riddle

Yes, I do. Buel Coon married Marinda Morgan in 1810 and had 8 children. He descends from John MacCoone of Scotland and the name evolved from MacCoone, MaCoon, Coon, Cone. Buel was son of Elias Coon and Eliza Starr of Westford, Vt. I know a great deal more and have photos of he and Marinda.
James Kevin Purcell jpurcell@mlode.com

Samuel Cone, b CT, 1755

I am interested in any details on Samuel Cone, born Haddam, 5 Aug 1755 according to town records. His father is listed as Jonathan in that source, but David in secondary sources. Anybody know the resolution of this?

Also, he had several children in Clinton, Maine. I know of at least Sam Jr, David and Oliver (but have good reason to suspect a William born about 1788) Jane (1794)and Isaac.

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/25763682/person/1710032641

Does anyone have additional information on him. I suspect that he is related to Mary Cone (b Maine, abt 1813) who married Warren McPhetres in Lincoln, Penobscot, ME in 1836. Details available if you are intersted.

Cheers, Dave Drabold

Re: CONE family in Hanson, MA

I was acquainted with a lady named Irene Cone (known to friends and family as "Ma Cone") in Hanson, MA, but she passed away, maybe 3 decades ago or so, and was fairly elderly. She had a daughter, as I recall. I want to say her daughter's name is Marcia (perhaps, spelled, Marsha). Somewhere, I might still have Mrs. Cone's home address in Hanson. I'd almost say I could pick out the house, but I'm sure it's changed. I remember the house being extremely cluttered (we would call it 'hoarding' today) and Mrs. Cone kept chickens and rabbits in the yard. That's about all I can remember. I hope this helps you.

Do we know where in Scotland the Cones came from and where in America they settled?

I'm descended from the Cones of Norfolk VA and can't get back any farther than James Cone. His wife was Jane (maiden name unknown) and I'm descended through their daughter, Martha Ann Cone. She was born about 1820 and married William J Stakes in Norfolk in Sep 1841. After the birth of their first child, the family moved to neighboring Princess Anne County where they lived until Martha's death in Aug 1870.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Frances

On this site, below, It is a Mormon Ancestory Archive Site I found alot about the Cones I was searching.
Christian Cones is on there but I am uncertain if it is the Christian WE all are searching more information on There are two Christians noted under Germany. Which he is from Germany. However the Death date is a year off from the Christian at Battle of bRandywine.

TO find out Christians Wifes MAIDEN name I found Jacob Cones whom his wife we believed was a Jana or Jane. I found a Jacob with wife Jane McCullough. On Jacobs page it notes his parents, pedigree and wife. Under Parents Christian Cones, Mothers Maiden Name, GRANT.

You can find more out on a lot of Cones by clicking the link below. HOWEVER, You will have to retype their name in. Hope this helps anyone searching. I would love to hear back from anyone or compare information gathered, just reply back to this tip. It will notify me in my inbox. Thanks.

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?P...
Information I know about Christian Cones is brief. But I am also trying to go a step further as well.

I do know the following information on Christian Cones. He was from Germany, Much of his information was lost in a fire. Where or How is unknown. I got this from my Father N Law, who is the 7th generation Cones from Christian. I presume the scource is the Cones Family Book. I am uncertain.

If anyone else has more information, I am interested for sure.
I also know that Christian was in the Battle of Brandywine where he died. I do have further information as for his children and down the decendants to our family. But as for info going back from Brandywine, that is the last information gathered.

At any rate, thank you for the information.

And by the way, my mother's name is also Dee - she is the one who got me hooked on geneaology.

I couldn't get the site's silly Web form to break for paragraphs, so I've put in all-cap heds instead. ENGLISH OR SCOTTISH? Our Cones are definitely Scottish and Cone is a sept of Clan Donald. No spurious English claim or temporary occupation will ever make Edinburgh English. TARTAN. You won't know which Macdonald tartan is the definitive one to claim until you know where in Scotland our Cone ancestors are from. I don't think it matters, though. Just pick one you like. Our Cones got here in 1652 and the tartans weren't assigned to family names until Victoria stuck her hand in the mix when she fell in love with Balmoral. Before then, everyone wore whatever the local weaver made. I love those eighteenth-century portraits with the subject wearing five or six different tartans. And Cone is my mother's family; all my dancing sashes are in my father's tartan. THE TALE OF THE THREE BROTHERS. Daniel was one of three brothers transported to Boston after the Battle of Worcester. If your Cone ancestor lived in colonial Virginia, you, like me, are probably descended from his brother Neale. THE BOOK OF DANIEL. The author of the book on Daniel Cone, which was written at the turn of the twentieth century after an exchange of hundreds of letters with Cone descendants, didn't put any information in it that he couldn't verify from independent sources. It was a massive undertaking resulting in a stunning achievement, especially considering that all the work of the compilation and the writing was done manually. But there are two problems with it: it's not infallible—because of a coincidence of names and a posthumous birth, a genealogy of Daniel and Mahitable somewhere on the Web, based on this book, erroneously attributes one of Neale's descendants (my 4g-gf) to one of Daniel's lines—and it doesn't include the juicy rumors and stories. HERE'S THE ENTRY FROM MY OWN COMPILATION ON THE BROTHERS' PARENTS (my nine-great-grandparents): Parents of three brothers captured after the battle of Worcester, sentenced to serve terms of indenture, and transported together aboard the John and Sarah, arriving in Boston in late winter of 1651–1652: 1625 Neale, 1626 Daniel, 1628? John. Cone is a sept of Clan Donald, which changed sides in the war twice and managed to be on the losing side both times. One report says the brothers were from Edinburgh; another says Aberdeenshire, where the name is common. The Covenanters’ army was drawn from both highlands and lowlands, so either—or both—is possible. The brothers served their indentures by 1657. There’s an oral tradition, vague of details, that says an argument about money between two of the brothers caused a rift that made the brothers go their separate ways. Daniel was a founder of Haddam, Connecticut; he married Mahitable Spencer in 1660 and had nine children, none of them named Neil although his son Ebenezer named a son John. Neale went to Virginia, married Ann Hawkins, and had five children, none of them named Daniel but one of them named John. Both Virginia and Massachusetts had a John Cone who could have been the third brother. A FINAL HISTORICAL NOTE. The brothers were lucky to be captured after Worcester instead of Dunbar. Had the reverse happened, we might not have Cone ancestry. By the conservative Scottish estimate of 6,000 captured prisoners, 77% of them were dead within a month; by the English estimate of 10,000 captured, it was 86%.
~~Dee
Albert Cone, b.abt1871, wife Hattie, b.abt 1866, lived Antrim Co., MI

I have an original postcard photograph of “Mr. and Mrs. Albert Cone – Central Lake, Mich.”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Card is dated 1909, and they look to be around age 40.

I found Albert Cone in the 1910 & 1920 censuses. In 1910, they lived in Central Lake (Antrim Co.) MI, and Albert J. was 38, a fireman at a flour mill. Wife Hattie E. was age 44. By 1920, they lived in Grand Rapids (Kent Co.) MI, and Albert was age 50, born in Maine; Hattie was age 55, born in Michigan.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Albert or Hattie Cone.

CONE arrived in America 1600's

My maiden name is CONE - I am descended from Scottish Cones who arrived in America in the 1600s but we seriously doubt we are from Daniel Cone of Edinborough's line. We suspect we are from Peter and/or Neal but definitely William Cone. If you have any information that may assist us, we would truly appreciate it. We want to get our roots back to Scotland. Thank you very much!

Brothers Luther Cone and John P. Cone

These were sons of Luther Cone and both were Civil War Veterans. Luther who was born in Ohio in 1842 would join an Ohio unit during the Civil War. John born in 1846 in Ohio would go west with his family to Douglas County, Kansas. There he would join the 12th Kansas Infantry during the Civil War. Luther came west after the Civil War and is buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Chanute, Kansas. John P. Cone would also live in Chanute, Kansas for a period but would go back to Lawrence, Kansas before his death. I currently don't know where his is buried but I do have a photograph of him taken in New Chicago which would later become Chanute, Kansas: http://www.flickr.com/photos/civilwar_veterans_tombstones/56...

Probably not the one you are looking for, but interesting. Richard (George) was born in Wichita Falls, TX, the 10th of 10 children at the time. My mother never knew her fathers family as he died when she was 6 in 1961 in a truck crash in California. I am also looking for any information I can find about my grandfather.

I am a descendant of Daniel Cone as well. I have been trying to determine whether the "Cone" name of his family is Scot or if it is English. I understand that the area around Edinburgh changed hands between the English and the Scots frequently. Have you ever learned specifically whether these Cones are of a clan or are English?

Charles Cone - 1885 - Arizona

Found in the Arizona Champion newspaper – Peach Springs, AZ. June 27, 1885. Copy of newspaper at the Library of Congress, Chronicling America section.

http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/

Charles Cone, of the firm Spencer & Cone, cattlemen of Mohave county, met with an accident in Hackberry on Monday last, which came near proving fatal. Someone had placed a torpedo on the railroad track and a freight train was standing at the depot. Mr. Cone was passing around the track at the rear end of the train, when the cars were backed up and ran over the torpedo, causing explosion. A piece of the missle struck Mr. Cone in the breast directly over the heart, ranging upwards, making a very ugly and dangerous wound. Dr. Brannen was telegraphed for and he was soon on the spot. A piece of the torpedo was removed from the wound, and at last accounts Mr. Cone was doing as well as could be expected.

Donald Davis Cone, JR

I am not a realative. I saw this when looking for an obit and thought someone might like to read it.

Cone Jr., Donald Davis October 20, 2004

Surprise,AZ
- DONALD DAVIS CONE JR. 72, of Surprise died Oct. 20 from complications of cancer. Just hours before he died, his face softened and he looked toward heaven and said “I’m going to go see the Lord, OK?” His wish came with a quiet last breath. He was known to many as ‘Buddy’, the kind of guy you could call at a moment’s notice to take you to catch a 6 a.m. flight. He was the kind of guy who was upbeat, never met a stranger and believed life was a blessing filled with love of friends and family. He was born in Ames, Iowa ( 08-28-1932) and was delighted to have two older sisters to tease. The family moved in 1940 to Corpus Christi, Texas and found happiness without the extras in life. But there was plenty of excitement: he once saved a child from a fire and a woman from drowning. He joined the Air Force after high school and they made him an instructor at the B-36 armament school. In 1953, he married Betty, his ‘yellow rose of Texas’, and went on to become an electrical engineer, with a short trial as a milk man. He joined General Electric and with Betty and daughter, Connie, moved to Youngstown, Ohio. Lee Ann, the miracle baby, came next after they moved to Philadelphia. He became a top computer trouble shooter for GE and was transferred to Phoenix in the 1960s. He would fly off to track down a company’s computer glitches, saving the client’s system and soothing their fears. Years later, his division became part of Honeywell and he was proud to be in the Technical Assistance Center. When he retired in 1994 so did his keyboard and his buddies framed it as a gift. He had a talent for detail and his memory was sharp. He was a smooth dancer and a charmer. He loved golf but it was more than just hitting the ball; it was the fellowship. He was a good cook, played the organ and excelled at arts and crafts. His homemade cards were uniquely designed for each person. He had a mischievous smile when getting to the punch line of a joke. And don’t stop him if you’ve already heard it. He mellowed with age but was always kind and generous. He wished to travel more but now he’s seeing all of God’s greatness. Betty died in November and they are together again. Survivors include her daughters Connie Sexton and Lee Ann Cone and sisters Dolores Tumlin and Charlene Williams. The memorial service is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Palm Vista Baptist Church, 17475 W. Bell Road in Surprise. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of the Valley. We will see him again, someday on the other shore.

SMITH (daughter of Hosea Smith & Mary Damon), I have found a letter from the minister in my relative's Civil War pension file that also mentions this couple's marriage on 26 May 1855 in Charlotte, Washington County, Maine.
