Okay. I'm soooo confused!
I believe that I had a family tree going back to the 1700's until I read this thread. My father, James McCune, was the son of Velma Congo. According to the 1930 US Census, she is the daughter of Fred W (Winfield?) Congo and Sara E. On this Census report are also listed Harley, Robert, Irene, Dorathy, Freddie and Seab (who is 73?). I remember Aunt Irene. I believe she was my great Aunt. She lived in Salineville, Ohio. Also, my mother (Marge) remembers Harley, Fred and Freddie. I also remember a Linda Congo from Wellsville, who I believe is my father's cousin.
It's been said that we were Cherokee/Choctaw and that it comes from the Congo side of our family. I've also found information that lists Fred W. Congo as being "Negro" on the census reports, but in writing it says caucasion. I never knew about the Congrove's. But that's an interesting fact. I had the "Sara Clem" side listed in my family tree, but I'm beginning to think that is now the correct Winfield, because I remember Aunt Irene.
I'm so lost!
An easy way to get past this might be through my mother, even though this is my father's side of the family.
If anyone reading this remembers a Marge McCune from Salinevile with 10 kids, Tom, Margaret (Sissy), Charlie, Mike, Tina (all Oates) and Jamie, Velma, Jimmy, Myrtle and David (deceased - 18 months), please message me, this is my family.
Any information would be greatly appreciate!
Thanks,
Myrtle
