Sandra,
I believe I can help you a bit. The first name of the man that Grace married was John. I don't know a lot about John and Grace's children, but from I've learned from the family, they had two daughters, one who was killed in a motorcycle accident in California.
John was the son of Clyde Archie Phillips and Rosette L. Smith. Clyde was the older brother of my grandmother, Celia Mae Painton. My grandmother and Clyde's parents were David Jackson Phillips and Cora Anna Ryder.
The Phillips clan lived mainly in the North Mountain area of Lycoming County, PA. North Mountain is in the far eastern section of Lycoming County.
If you have any other questions, please email me at this address.

Rick Swartz

Mary Eldred/Eldridge Conkrite (b. 1842) lived in Ash, MI

I am a descendant of Amos Eldridge, b. abt. 1839, d. 1921, probably in Canandaigua, Ontario, NY. According to the the 1900 US Census of Ash, Monroe, Michigan, Amos Eldridge is living with sister Mary and her husband William Conkrite.

I have no information about Amos or Mary's parents except they are born in "England" which I assume could be English Canada. I have one census record in which Amos, wife Sarah and daughters Clara and Flora (my gr-great-grandmother) are living in Victor, Ontario, NY in 1880. Other than that, I have Civil War veterans records that corroborate the family relationship and year of death. I stumbled across Ontario County (New York) indenture listings on raims.com for Amos, Mary and Theodore Eldridge between 1851 and 1855; and a 1950 census that lists Amos and John Eldridge, aged 13 and 9, among the population at the Ontario County Poorhouse in Hopewell, in 1850.

In 1990 Amos appears to have furloughed himself from the Veteran's Home in Steuben County, NY to visit Mary and William in Ash, MI. His wife Sarah appears to have stayed in Canandaigua living with her daughter Clara and son-in-law William Stevens. Both Amos and Sarah are still married, though Amos says it's 28 years and Sarah says it's 30.

Please let me know if you think you may have come across any information that would help me with Amos or Mary's origins.

Vickie,

I wrote the Conkright board several years ago (maybe even in the last year or two) asking if there is a Conkright reunion.

Through your help, Court's and this board I discovered my Dutch ancestry. Who'd a thunk it? I'm sure my father never even dreamed some ancestors were Dutch AND having been very early settlers in America. Thank goodness those Dutch were great record keepers.

I am also interested in my Conkright/Oliver connection in KY and Clark County in particular. I've read that the Olivers had property near the "Oil Fields" and wonder if this is a mangled reference to Indian Old (Corn) Fields. I believe Eskipakithiki (sp.?), a Shawnee town, was near the Old Fields.

Thanks for all you do to help us Dutch people. Please let me know if there is any Conkright family get-together. I'd love to meet Conkright cousins and look at a bunch of Dutch people And yes, I don't get let out of the cage very often!

Carolyn Funderburk
You are correct, the Richard b1812 is the brother to Lydia who married Nathan Stanton and lived in Appanoose Co, Iowa. Once a year, my curriosity over the
Conkright connection takes over and I try to figure out the the family of Richard and Barago. I still by process of elimination believe that it is the Henry Kronkright of Delaware Co, Pa based on the number of males in the family in 1790 and 1800 and the fact that one of Barago's daughters listed him as from Pa.

OK - Here is you Conkright line back to about 1600 - Sybout (last name unknown - a patronymic)- had Harck Syboutszen, b. ca 1620, m. Wyntje Theunis, Nov. 16, 1642, in New Amsterdam (NYC), New Netherlands (NY). They had 3 sons who left heirs - Sybants (who went by Sybout), Teunis and Jan. A 4th son did not have any children, but his name was Jacobus. He left his share of the lands in Westchester Co., NY (Part of Ryck's patent) to his nephew, Abraham Lent. There were two other boys who must have died young, Joseph and Peter. The next person in your line, Sybants (Sybout) Herricksen, bap. 12/4/1644, in NA, NN, assumed the last name Krankheyt, married Mary Abrahams (Riker/Lent), in 4/1669. Mary was the daughter of Abraham Rycken and Gretje Hendricks. The next person in your line is their son, Herck Krankheyt, bap. 11/20/1687, in NYC, who married Fytje DeRonde, before 1713. Fytje was the daughter of WIllem Hendricksen DeRonde and Magdalena Brouwer. Herck and Fytje had the next person in your line -Herculius Krankheyt, who moved to Kentucky and went by the name Hercules Conkright. He married Dolly or Dorothy, last name not known for certain, but some say Artjke. He was bap. June 24, 1727, in Sleepyhollow, NY. They had the next person in your line, Abraham Conkright, b. ca 1773, who married Nancy Jackson, in Clark Co., KY, on Nov. 27, 1793. They had the next person in your line, Benjamin Laken Conright, b. ca 1817, in Clark Co., KY, and who married Lucinda Marton about 1835 in Mont. Co., KY (Those marriage records were destroyed during the Civil War). They had the enxt person in you rline, Isaac Conkright, b. ca 1842, who married Esther Wykoff, in Dec. 1864, KY, and they had the next person in your line, William Conkright, b. between July 1872 and 1877, who married Cora Belle Loden, on Nov. 6, 1895, in Parke Co., IN. They had the next person in your line, Glen Conkright, b. between 7/9/1893 and 1899, and who married twice. I don't know his first wife's name. His second wife was Nannie Lewis. I don't know which wife was the mother of Wanda because that is where my records stop. Does this help? I sure would appreciate if you could fill me in from Glen on in exchange. Thanks.
ISAAC was the son of Benjamin Laken Conright and Lucinda J. Martin. This is a list of his children. His dad, Benj. was the son of Abraham Conkright and Nancy Jackson. Abraham was in turn the son of Hercules Conkright and Dorothy (Artjke?). This line goes back to New York and was spelled Krankheyt before it was changed to Conkright. All Conkrights, Conkwrights, Cronkhites, Cronkites, etc. are decended from Harck Syboutszen and Wyntje Theunis, who were married in New Amsterdam (NYC) in 1642. I have this whole line.
Hi!! i have been looking at all message boards trying to find info on my g-g-grandfather Richard Conkwright.
He was born 1812 in Ohio. He was the second husband of Cynthia Spiller, While he was married to Cynthia, they operated a dry goods store/saloon in the late 1840's in Centerville,Iowa. He might have also been a preacher and/or teacher in the area (this info by Michael Kuhns) Also, he says Richard and Cynthia had a son Edwin (I could not find him). I could only find my great-grandmother Olive and her sister Ruth.
Need any help you can offer!!! Thanks!!

Doreen

Cousins,

Are there any reunions/family get-togethers for the Conkright family out of Clark County, Kentucky?

I am descended from Hannah Conkwright/Conkright who married Richard Oliver about l778, both from NC. They moved from Mecklenburg County NC (Charlotte) to Clark County, KY several years after l782 following his Revolutionary War service.

I sure would like to look at a bunch of Conkrights as I haven't yet got it in my tiny brain that my Dad's side of the family was Dutch. Never in a million years would I have guessed that!

Best wishes.

Carolyn Carpenter Funderburk
ccfunderburk@ec.rr.com

What do you want to know about her line? Her father was Benjamin Lakin Conkright, she married Stewart Parker, and had 2 children I know if, Mary and Stewart Parker, b. 1912 and 1917. Margaret's mother was Rilda Steward, b. 1862, Benjamin (her father) was the son of Benjamin Laken Conkright and the last child of Lucinda J. Martin. She may have died giving birth o Benjamin. She was his first wife and they had 11 children together, Elijah, Nacy Jane, William, Elsberry, Isaac, Frank Marion, Mary Ann, Susan, Martha Ellen, Margaret and Benjamin. After Lucinda died, Benjamin, Sr., married Mary Phillips and they had 6 children together, James Bunyan, John, Nancy Ann (Nannie), Miltion J., Lucy and Sarah (Sallie). Benjamin Sr. was the son of Abraham Conkright and Nancy Jackson, who were marreid 11 27 1793 in Clark Co., KY. Abraham was the son of Hercules and Dorothy (?) Conkright. Hercules had sons Abraham, Isaac, and John who left heirs. I am descended from Isaac. Hercules was born in Sleepy Hoolow, NY.....want more info. I have it. Vickie.

Hi,,
Horace Snow is the ggggrandfather of my husband, Gerald Lobb and we have been trying to find out if anyone has any info on his ancestors. I have the info on descendents thru his son, Samuel Bell Snow (husband's ggrandfather) and also quite a bit of info on the wagon train West. Ella May Snow, dau of Samuel Bell Snow and Sarah Ellen Lancaster, married Samuel Lobb, thus our connection. Would be glad to share info and hope you have some that we don't have. Feel free to e-mail me at GRLCJL7@CS.COM. Thanks, Catherine Lobb
