Christopher Connely Ireland to Minnesota

My great grandparents were Christopher and Bridget Connely (Connoly?, both born in Ireland. He abt. 1832, she about 1837 but I have no idea what countys or when he immigrated. She immigrated in 1860. He fought in the Civil War with the 19th Regiment, Minnesota Infantry. The record says he was born in Minnesota but my grandmother Nellie Connely Lamb had his uniform from the Grand Army of the Republic so we know it is him. And it was always discussed in the family.
I know they had three children (maybe more) that are found on the 1880 cencus Frank born 1870, Ellan 1872, Nellie 1874 (my grandmother). But after that the family disappears. I find Bridget living with my grandparents in 1900 but thats it.
Really I find little before or after the 1880 cencus. Any ideas? I have searched more ship lists than I care to remember. I have looked at naturalization records. I can find no death record for him. I am stumped. Help???

My name is Mike Wright and I post this to inform that I also have been researching Edward Connely, my great great grandfather. I am in the same dead end you are at. My great grandfather Robert Parlee married Lucy Isabella who's maiden name of course was Connely. I have visited the Mechanic Settlement cemetery and photographed Edward's tombstone. Robert Parlee and Lucy were the parents of my grandfather, also named Edward Connely Parlee, who married Helen Carr (Kerr) who was the daughter of James and Mary Jane Carr, nee McShane. I spent many summers in the Waterford, Cedar Camp, Chamber Settlement, Donegal regions in and around Sussex New Brunswick. My mother Marye was born there.

Re: Frederick John Connely

Hello
I've come across this posting when trying to knock down a brick wall of Mary Connely, born in Sheerness. I haven't been able to establish for definite further back than her, other than her father being a painter called Henry Connely. I have found a likely father in 1861, who is in the household of his son Frederick, and another son, Alfred, is also there. Both Frederick and Alfred are the same age as in your posting, so I'm hoping there's a link here. I can't at the moment prove the connection. Do you think Mary could be Frederick's married sister?
Happy hunting
Caroline

Edward Connely Born: 1819 Broad Island, Belfast, Ireland, died NB

Looking for info on the parentage of my direct ancestor Edward Connely. The available info seems to stop with him.

Here is his information from Tom McCarthy's "New Brunswick Pioneer Families"

"Edward Connely b. 1819, Broad Island, Ireland, occ. Shipbuilder, m. 01-Nov-1848, in Renton Dumbartonshire, Scotland, Agnes McKechnie, b. 20-Nov-1827, Bridgend Dumbartonshire, Scotland, (daughter of James McKechnie and Janet Wilkie) d. 30-Jan-1919, Mechanic Settlement New Brunswick, Canada. According to the headstone on his grave, Edward died 15-Mar-1897 in Shepodyrd New Brunswick, Canada. Ned Connely was a Native of County Antrim, Ireland. He moved to Dumbuck Village, Old Kilpatrick, Scotland, where he married. In 1853 emigrated to St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, where he was employed as a master shipbuilder. He worked there for several years until he heard of land available in northern New Brunswick. He purchased a wooded area, cleared the land, and built a homestead. Ned was a strict Presbyterian and insisted that the Sabbath be "kept holy". Thus, all day Saturday the household scurried about preparing Sunday's noon meal, peeling potatoes and leaving them in cold water, doing everything ahead of time except for hitching the horses for church. Seven of the children, Janet, Robert, Margaret, Lavinia, Mary, James, and Lucille lived to adulthood. Templecorran or Broad Island is a parish in the barony of Lower Belfast, county of Antrim and province of Ulster, containing the village of Ballycarry. A search by the Ulster-Scot Historical Foundation to trace the Connely family here found no records, although many records were destroyed in the 1922 civil war. Some Connelys did reside in adjoining parishes of Larne and Doagh."

If anyone somehow has info on Edward Connely's parents I would be forever grateful.

Thanks,

Andrea Olmanson

Pennington DAR Grave Marking

All descendants of Rev. Charles and Cassandra Pennington are cordially invited to attend a DAR Grave Marking Ceremony on Saturday, September 24, 2005. We will be meeting at Otterbein Cemetery, at 1:30 CDT and will have a brief reception following the ceremony. Otterbein is located just West of Westfield, IL, North off the Charleston-Westfield Road on CR 2480E. While Rev. Pennington has been a recognized DAR Patriot for many years, his grave was never officially recorded and marked by the DAR. After submitting the appropriate paperwork, the National Society has granted permission to place these markers. The ceremony will be conducted by the Governor Edward Coles—Sally Lincoln Chapter, NSDAR, Mattoon, Illinois. Anyone descending from JOEL CONNELY (1788-1855) and Effie Pennington (1787-1875 and d. of Rev. Charles & Cassandra Pennington) is especially welcome. Please make plans to attend this important ceremony and to help us honor these Revolutionary War Patriots.

I'm trying to find my Connelly connection. My greatgrandmother's name is also Mary. Not sure where she landed, but believed to have come directly from Ireland. Not sure when. She married Joseph Marino. I have a photo of Mary and Joseph from 1934 New York, with my grandmother, Mary Marino, and my infant mother. It's hard to approximate an age for folks from that era. They all appear much older than they really are. Does any of this mean anything to you?

Margaret Connely McGuigan and Owen McGuigan were my great grandparents. I do not have anything on the background of her parents, except that they were listed as living in West Seneca Centre, NY (Erie Co.) in the 1860 census. The other children you named are the same as in my records.
My new e-mail is jmlatham28@adelphia.net
