Classification: Query
Surnames: Conrad, Hochstetler
I am not a member of Ancestry.com mainly because I am unable to afford it so I must get messages out this way. My mother's side was raised Old Order Amish (OOA) in Northern Indiana. Although they adhered to their traditional ways back then (1930's?) it didn't mean they did not respect those who were not OOA. Because of this, modern people moved next to my great-grandfather's, and so also my grandfather, house. A family, known as the Conrad's moved next door, as it seems on the 1930 census. While my family, the Hochstetler's rode around in their horse and buggies, the Conrad's enjoyed driving their "horse-less carriage". This intrigued my grandfather's eldest brother, William. Asking his father for some money, he went out and bought a car. On one day, William asked the beautiful Ollie Conrad if she would like a ride, she agreed. They were fond of each other, although not in love, and so went on several drives. On one such occasion the sun was out but the air was chilly. Before they were off to some adventure and excitement, as could be imagined for a couple of 19 year olds back then, someone asked to take their picture. Both William and Ollie agreed and posed in front of the car before they went on their way.
This picture I have found only after the death of my grandfather and wondered if the descendants of Ollie could be reached. I tried contacting her nephew, Grover Jr., by snail-mail and phone, to no avail. If anyone is related to Ollie, her brother Grover Sr., or any others that could help locate someone who would appreciate this, please let me know.
