I'm looking for information on his ancestry and came upon your mrssages. Is ther any indication that any Conrads settled in W.V.? My fathers name was George Clark Conrad and I know very little about the family before him except that someone in the family married a Buchannon in Morgantown, W.V. He also had 12 or 13 siblings.

Original Conrads in Virginia, moving to D.C.

I am looking for information on the Conrad family that settled in Rockingham Co, Va (now Harrisonburg, Va). The following is the tombstone inscription at East Point Cemetery in Rockingham:

"John Stephen Conrad Sr., his wife Anna Catarina Stahlschmidt and more than fifty decendants are buried in this lot outlined by 14 granite posts. Coming from Germany they settled here about 1758. John Stephen Sr. died in 1767 and his wife in 1768. Their rough unlettered gravestones now support this tablet. East Point Cemetery thus began."

I am specifically looking for the line with Charles E. Conrad was born abt 1834 in Virginia. He married Rebecca Parker, then Virginia Parker (maybe cousins). His father may have been David Conrad, born abt 1793. I believe that David maybe a grandson or uncle of John Stephen Conrad and his wife Anna.

If you see a connection, please email me at Ourfamilylegacy@aol.com

Richard Hilan Conrad (Lunenburg, NS Conrads)

My great grandfather's name is Richard Hilan Conrad, from the Lunenburg, Nova Scotia Conrads.

I'm trying to trace the line back before him, and have some theories, but nothing concrete yet.

He emigrated to Malden, Massachusetts around 1897. The 1900 US census lists him as "Richard H Conrad," with mother "Emma" (born ~1850 in NS). Emma is listed as widowed in 1900.

His WWI draft card lists his name as "Richard Hilan Conrad." His wife's name was Delia.

The trail for "Richard Conrad" goes cold for me in NS, but there is a "Hiland Conrad" (mother is "Emeline") in Lunenburg, NS. The ages/location/names seem to fit. In that case, Richard/Hiland was born 1878 8 Aug in Petite Rivière, NS. Siblings include Cassander (possibly Cassandra, born ~1869) and Fredrick (born ~1879).

Father is listed a "Henry Conrad," (born ~1846) which doesn't lead me far, but there are some "John Henry"s who may fit.

I know there is a "Conrad book" about the Lunenburg Conrads which may help, but I don't have access to a copy.

Any help would be appreciated. You may contact me at genealogy@ericconrad.com

- Eric

Looking for more info on ancestors of Aquilla Coonrod, b 1832, Williams Co OH? My gggrandfather (whom I believe was his son) was Frank Joseph Conrad b. 8/3/1856 or 1865 in Bryan, Williams Co, OH. He married Anna O'Neil (b. 1867 in Massachusetts) and they had five sons and one daughter: Edward (1885), William (1887), Mary (1890), Joseph (1893), James (1896) and John (1899). All children were born in IL with the exception of Joseph, who was born in OH. Anna O'Neil Conrad died c. 1903. Frank died in 1921 at the State Soldier's Home in Hot Springs, SD. I have more info on the Conrad children of Frank if anyone would be interested. Please let me know if anyone can corroborate this link between Frank Joseph and Aquilla. Thanks in advance!
Yes, the possibility of a common family link is probably rather high.
I will look up some of the geneology search I have from my cousin and send some more information to you.
Did your family speak Pennsylvania Dutch? Mine did, on both sides but I only learned a few words but could understand much more at one time. My parents didn't want me and my sister to get that accent so they didn't teach it to us.
I wish they had.

death notice of Anna Rosina Conrad (from Muhlenberg's Journal)

The Journals of Henry Melchior Muhlenberg , vol. 1, page 190 April 1748

April 20 . I had to bury the wife of a deacon from New Hanover. The woman had come up to Tulpehocken eight days before to visit her children who lived there, and had died. She had chosen Psalm 42 as her funeral text and the hymn “Ach Gott und Herr, wie gros”, etc, in order to show what had been her meditation in life and in death. She had lived in wedlock with the aged man, of whom I previously complained that he was given to excessive drinking and that he boasted of the fact that he had been one of the those who brought the preacher here. She bore him nine children, of whom eight are still living and give good promise, owing to her diligent instruction and admonition. Outwardly she was much afflicted with suffocatio uterina and also had not a little sorrow on account of her husband. This external tribulation drove the woman to prayer and the Word of God, and the faithful God granted that this should bring about in her a living faith and a godly life. Several times in recent years I have asked her about the state of her heart and she always replied that she was indeed a poor sinner, worthy of death and condemnation, but the Lord Jesus had blotted out her sins for His Name’s sake. She knew on whom she believed. She thanked the Lord that He had led and driven her to repentance through goodness and severity, and brought her through the means of grace into the fellowship of the sufferings and joys of the blessed Lord Jesus. She had indeed thereby been crucified unto the world, but, on the other hand, the world was also an abomination to her. I tested her with all sorts of Pennsylvania objections to see whether the tree really had roots, but she replied with joyful lips, “If I look upon myself only, I am a lost daughter , a publican, a Mary Magdalene, etc; but the Lord has clothed me with the garments of salvation and the cloak of righteousness, so that I cannot but sing his praise:

Beloved of my heart
I am no longer mine
For everything I am
Is altogether Thine.

My hatred and my love
I now have left to Thee
All this is done in me
By Thy heavenly Wine!

Just two weeks before she had visited me in Providence and, among other edifying remarks, expressed a desire to depart and be with Christ, which the Lord heard, indeed, and He took her home.
If you have not done so,try Geneanet.org go to the Austrian board. You can get the basic research info without joining the group. If you have an idea of the town or area it will be much easier, but I did find my husband's Conrad family of Lorraine, France that way. Some spoke French and most spoke German.

Katherine,

I am looking for a Jacob Conrad that came to America from Germany with his father Peter and his brother Rudolph. They came to Pennslyvania first and then to North Carolina. Rudolph and his brother Jacob fought in the Revolutionary War. Rudolph stayed in North Carolina with the father Peter and we think Jacob went back to Pennslyvania. If you think my family is connected with your book please let me know.
Hello,
I am interested in information about Jacob Conrad who came from Germany with his father Peter and brother Rudolph. Our book has info about Rudolph on down but none on his brother Jacob who we believe went back to PA after the Revolutionary War Our book tells that the family went to NC. I am a descendant of Rudolph Conrad and Sally Schell, Peter Conrad and Sally Abernathy,David Rudolph Conrad and Mary Bollinger, Peter Rudolph Conrad and Anna Eliza Nugent, John Ireanus Conrad and Josephine Barks, Theodore Roosevelt Conrad and Genevieve Ballard, Helen Conrad and Nathaniel Smith. I have a book on the Canrad family that my Aunt Betty helped compile that has alot of info. I have pictures in this book of several of these men. I would be interested in your pictures and any info you have. Would be more than happy to share with you any and all info I have. Thanks, Natalie Roberson
Re: Orphan Train Rider Bert (Bertrand) Conrad/McGarry, Storm Lake, IA

Being that it's an orphan train, the chances of you finding more information are very small unfortunately. However, if you can pin down dates of when the trains might have been through, you might be able to pin down locations and that could help. Most orphan train kiddos were snatched without much paper work or anything else. Names might not even be totally right, it's going to totally depend on the age of he was at the time, older children were usually more aware of their names and the correct spellings. Let me know if you need/want any more information on orphan trains.

My name is Andrew, I know the chances are slim but their is an individual in my family history named Asbury Nance he was maybe African American born in 1843, his wife's name was Ellen Nance also born 1843, native american of some kind. They were located in Diamondhill Abbeville South Carolina. I know the names aren't exactly the same but i thought this might help. Let me know what you think.

Re: James Lorene Conrad

Hi, Bonnie!

I'm just getting started - but I can fill you in on a bit - my grandma was Lorena Susan Conrad, Grace's (much) younger sister. Luckily, my mom and I have memories of her talking about her myriad of brothers and sisters (I at least have names!) There were 3 boys, and 8 girls.

Parents were James Lorene Conrad and Amanda Susan West (some argument in the family whether it was Amanda Susan, or Susan Amanda - FYI) I think it was Amanda Susan.

William (Bill)
Harvey
Roy

Lorena Susan (b. 2/15/1912; d.8/11/1989)
Eugenia (Jean) (b 2/15/1912; still living) - Lorena's Twin
Grace Fern (Only known as "Fern" before I read your post! Thanks!)
Rose (possibly Rose Edith, or Rosa Edith)
Nell (married James Stone)
Minerva (Minnie)-married Liebhardt (spelling?)
Elizabeth
Jane

Lorena married Fred Bolinger and their children are:
Donald Frederick
Charles Eugene
James Ray
Mary Virginia (my mother)

Eugenia (Jean) married Harold Elder. Children:
Carol Sue
Dorothy Jean
Joanne
Edwin

Nell married James Stone. Children:
Rose Alice
Betty Jean. She married Harold Elder's brother, but I don't know which one (yet)

Oddly enough, I'm researching the Russell family on my grandfather's side (Fred Bolinger's mother was Virginia Alice Russell - sisters Sara and Laura) Their parents were possibly William R Russell (2 Aug 1841-4 Feb 1904) and Cynthia Tobey (b 29 Oct 1843). It would be funny if both sister's and/or their families intersected. Stranger things have happened!

As I get more info, I'll be more than happy to share!

~Fred

Conrads of Northumberland, PA

I am a Conrad, my family originates from Northumberland County, PA. I still have a Great Aunt that lives in Sunbury who's maiden name is Conrad. I was able to link back to Jacob Conrad (1735-1812). I've noticed that no one has any information on any recent Conrads... Franklin E. Conrad (1856-1938) was my Great-Great Grandfather... it's a possibility that he had a brother named Jeremiah. He had 3 sons, Clyde L., Herman, and Elwood Conrad born in the 1890s. Just let me know if anyone knows anything that I might not know... Thanks
