Hi Norm.. Have you seen the full marriage record of Adolphe and Mathilda? The reason I ask is that the computer image of the record shown through Ancestry Library Edition only shows the heading and the first two lines. If you've seen the full record, could you pass on the parents' and witnesses' names? Would much appreciate it.....as Adolphe is a great uncle and was also my grandfather's godfather.

Hi. I think I see the problem. My guess is that there is only one Marie Charlotte Contant who was baptized Aug 14, 1754 and later married an Archambault on Oct 19, 1772. His name could be Francois Xavier or Louis Xavier or even Louis Francois Xavier, baptized Feb 15, 1741. For some confirmation, check Tanguay's Genealogical Dictionary: Vol 2, pg 46 & 48, Vol 3 pg 123. Aside from the actual marriage record, there is also J. Arthur Lebouef's Complement to Tanguay's Genealogical Dictionary (some corrections); then Rene Jette's Genealogical Dictionary. These last two sources I haven't checked yet.

Still don't have Etienne's m. to M.Louise BLEAU. I was wrong re his 2nd m. It was son Adolphe who m. twice.

Hi. I haven't found the marriage record of Etienne Contant and Marie Louise Bleau (or Blot). But I did have a look at the birth record of possibly their first child, Rosalie, born 2/4/1807, Lachenaie, Quebec. It appears that her godparents were Laurent Bleau (signed Laurent Blot) and Marie Joseph (or Josephte) Hubou dit Tourville. If these were Rosalie's maternal grandfather and paternal grandmother, then her father must have been Etienne Contant, born 1785, son of Etienne Contant, born 1722, his second marriage, and Marie Joseph Hubou (or Hubout), born 5/13/1761. I'm not sure about Rosalie's mother, Marie Louise Bleau, as there are several Laurent Blots (her possible father) married in the 1770-1790 time period in the Lachenaie/ Montreal area. I've read that it was customary to choose the paternal grandfather and the maternal grandmother as the godparents for the eldest child. The deviation here is neatly explained by the fact that the paternal grandfather, Etienne, born 1722, was probably deceased by 1807. Of course this parental hypothesis could be entirely wrong. Do you have information that Marie Louise Bleau was Etienne Contant's second wife? Your message seems to imply that (with the notation "2nd").

I am also trying to find a native american link... My g-g-g-grandmother was Leah Laurencelle, Born in Quebec Canada, Her parents were Odile Contant and Edmund Laurencelle. Odile Contant's father was Cyrille COntant married to Angele Branauchard. Cyrlle COntant's father was Etinne Contant. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I am interested in the native ancestry of Constant's born in Quebec as well.

I have traced back to my gggg grandmother Margaret Constant as being born in Quebec.
The question I have for you is: Did you get anywhere with your research in Quebec yet? I'm having a bit of a hard time learning how to navigate into Quebec records.

I was also wondering if there is a possibility that these native families may be connected.

My Great Grandmother Annie Myles Wheatley Ricard had five sisters and one of them named Catherine married a Frederick Contant in Fall River, Massachusetts. She died in 1919 at an early age. They had one child Alfred, he seemed to have married and had a son also named Alfred but they have disappeared, can anyone help?

I have researched Contant as my mother is one.
We have found some native Canadian links with Constant in the 1871 census reading Joseph Moses Constant as native.

Thanks for the info but Iwas looking for places of death and everything that goes along with it. My name is DeeDee and I'm Alice's Daughter and I have done my fathers family tree all the way back to the 1400's but I don't have any Where to start for my mothers side which Uncle earnie is my mom's brother so if you have any info on anything or any Idea on where to start please if you can help me I would greatly Appriciate it.

I am Dora's daughter, Ernie's granddaughter and I wanted to clarify the dates of death for Lucien. He died on March 13, 1936 and his wife Maria died on June 28th 1959.

My grandfather's name is Earnie Contant, one of the sons of Lucien Contant. My grandpa had one other brother. My father is Cliff Contant. I am sorry to report that your grandfather is dead. He died back in Nov. of 1974. That is all the infomation I have at this time. I am trying to get a background check on my grandmothers side for my indian heritage.
