Apparently our John Conyer died in 1861 during the Civil War, so he obviously couldn't be the father of Mary Anna (Mary Emma?) Conyer. Probably a relative, though.
Leslie Lewis, leslie.irene.lewis@gmail.com

Deborah, nice to see your note. I wish I knew more about Laura, too. I have her in the 1880 census and nothing more. My mother-in-law's Bible lists all of Jincy's children, so that is how I knew about the Hosford, Parrish and Conyer marriages. But she didn't list the husband's names. I saw the Liberty Co FL marriage record for Jincy and Wm Hosford that you saw. I still haven't found out the first name of the Parrish she married. I don't even know yet where Henry and Jincy Conyer died and are buried. Also am seeking the death dates and places for her parents, Benjamin and Percia (?) Wood. I would love to know more about Laura's institutionalization... did you find a record for this online? Feel free to email me at Lewisparr@olympus.net.
Leslie

Dear Leslie,
I have been doing research on the Hosford family for many years now (started when I was a young teenager). Have been trying to find out more about William H. Hosford's marriage to Jincy A. Wood since locating their marriage record while at the Liberty County, FL Courthouse some years ago. William is my gr-gr-grandfather through his second marriage to Anna Horne. Apparently William & Jincy divorced after their daughter, Laura was born (1869?). I've discovered that Laura was institutionalized at the Florida State Hospital in Chattahooche after Jincy died in 1919 and must have remained there until her death in 1946. Currently, I'm trying to find out more about Laura & why she was placed there. I had no idea that Jincy married a 3rd time, how she died, etc. Wish I knew why she & William divorced. Any information you can share would be very much appreciated. Most Sincerely, Deborah Poppe

While getting back to that line I re-discovered our e-mails and do not recall what information I sent you.
Hi there! Thank you for the reply. The "J.D." that gave you the info is my father, whom I have no contact with. He is the son of Clarence (Ted) and grandson of G.W. I'm having trouble finding out when G.W. died. My records show that Addie died in 1928. My grandpa would have only been 13. When I was a child, I was told that my grandfather had been orphaned, so he joined the circus. That's where he met my grandmother.

Hello cousin:
Your grandfather and my grandmother wer brother and sister. My grandmother Driskill Conyer was the sister of your grandfather Clarence Edward (Ted) Conyer. Other children included Harry, Ruby, Marie and Hazel Most of the information I have is from a J.D. Conyer, is he any relation to you. Parents were George Washington Conyer and Addie Belle Alexander. Mr. Conyer was previously married to a Threlkeld and had two children from that union. Addie Belle was 20 years his junior when they married. He was a rather successful "stock man" but I beleive they are refering to horses as he is also described as a horse trader. I have copy of census indicating servant in quarters in 1910 or 20, will find and send a copy. Addie belle is buried in Pleasnsnt Hill Cemetery, Have been to her grave site. Not sure where George is buried family moved to Portageville, Missouri about 1916, but she returned for visit , caught fever and died. I have several references to the Conyer's brother's and sister's as well as my own recollections of my grandparents. Unfortunately I can not send it all at once, but will forward more in the not to distant future. Look forward to hearing from you.

I have recently began searching my paternal g.father's roots. His name was C E Conyer (Ted). He was born in W. Ky. in 1914. I searched for a year trying to find out his parents' names. I sent for a copy of his ss appl. form and just got it yesterday. His father was George Washington Conyer who lived in Critt, KY. but I think he was born in TN. His Mother was Addie Belle Alexander Conyer. I have not found a birth or death date for G W yet, but Addie was born 1874 in Ky and died 1928 in Ky. Supposedly, Addie and George W are buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Critt. KY.

John, I have just now started on that side of the family. I was down in Salem, Ky in Sept '04 and had an 80yr old 2nd cousin (w/a great memoy) take me out to my grandfather (Wallace Conyer), gg-grandparents (John/Harriette Conyer) grave. There were a lot of other Conyer's there. I have not seen anything on George Washington Conyer but if you want I can called Haskell to see if he knows anything about them. Haskell is actually related to my grandmother side but Haskell knew and like my grandfather a lot and knew a lot about the Conyer family. There is also a Conyer relative down there that I was told has done the family tree but he was in poor health when I was there and could not go see him. My Conyer side stops with my gg-grandfather as I can not find parents of John. Do you have anything that might realate to my direct side? I have gotten so side tracked as I tend to wander off into other lines then I get overwhelmed with info. This has not been easy Thanks Vicki

I'm finding a John Mauzy who married a Hester FOOTE or a Hester CONYER then sources have his mother as an Elizabeth CONYER (md Henry Mauzy). I'm am trying to figure out if John actually married someone who had his mother's surname (maiden or possibly a previous marriage) or if several sources just have the wrong generation as a CONYER. Help is very appreciated. These folks may have been in Farquier Co VA.

I saw this census, too, and am wondering if this is my husband's ancestor, Henry C. Anyone connected with this family please e-mail me at Lewisparr@olympus.net.
I don't know the connection between Locklayers and Conyers other than assuming either Mr. or Mrs. Locklayer was a sibling of Ann who married John Conyers (Henry's parents).
Thanks,
Leslie Lewis

Cathy,
Henry C. Conyer is my husband's great-grandfather. He married Jincy Anne Wood around 1884. She had been married twice before, first to William H. Hosford, then to a Mr. Parrish. She had a daughter Laura Hosford and three Parrish children as well as the kids with Henry. My husband's grandfather is Thomas Wesley Conyer. What is your line? Would love to share info.
I found a Henry in Clarendon Co SC in 1860, age 2... parents John and Ann Conyer. This appears to be the right family, as I was told Henry had a brother Irving and there was an Ervin listed in the household.
While searching for my elusive 2nd great grandmother (Helen M. Smith Canterbury), I came across a Hellen M. Smith enumerated in the household of James (54, KY) & Catherine DeHart Conyer (48, KY). Because of the flourish-style handwriting of the enumerator, it is difficult to tell if Hellen M. Smith's age was 65 or 15! Can anyone shed light on this Hellen M. Smith of the Grant Co., KY 1850 census? There were two other's in the household as well...75 yr. old Eliz. DeHart (Catherine's mother?) & 25 yr old Joseph Sowder (a relative or farm hand?).

Thanks!

Diane Carter
