It has been some time since your post. I have quite a lot of information on my Coonradt line. I do show one Fredrick Coonradt b 1938 in Utica, New York. This info may or may not be correct, but I connect this name back to the immigrant Coonradt family. If you think this may be your Fredrick's line you may email me. jjtaylor @ ptialaska.net (there are no spaces in the address but this way it does not show up so readily in computer searches).

My grandfather was Marcus Coonradt, although never met him. My mother Elizabeth Gertrude Coonradt before marriage. Marcus was her dad and Hansen was her mom's maiden name. Her mother, my grandmother (Hansen) died at an early age, and her first name escapes me at the moment. They lived in the Troy area. Several Coonradts are still in that area I believe. My mom was one of 6. Doris, Robert, Geraldine, Richard, Elizabeth and Inie. At least we called her Aunt Inie, not sure of her first name. Contact me for more info. dcw949@zoomtown.com

A. B. Coonradt, Herkimer Co., NY

Coonradt, A.B., Russia, was born in Brunswick, Rensselaer county, N.Y., a son of P.A. Coonradt, a son of George, a son of Jeremiah, who was a native of Brunswick. His father with two brothers came from Germany during the Revolutionary War. They paid their passage by serving in the war. Jeremiah settled in Troy and married Miss Smith, and had twelve children. Mr. Coonradt was born in Brunswick in 1800. his wife was Miss Coonradt and they had five sons and four daughters. Mr. Coonradt died in Brunswick in 1867, and his wife in 1847. P.A. Coonradt was born in Brunswick February 19, 1822. He followed teaching many years and then engaged in the mercantile business until 1865, when he came to Cold Brook and was agent for the Union store one year. He then moved to Prospect and resided there until 1870, when he went to Rockford, Ill., where he is at present engaged in the manufacture of shoes. Mr. Coonradt married Sarah, daughter of John Coonradt, who was in the War of 1812. To P.A. Coonradt and wife were born three sons and one daughter. Mr. Coonradt was supervisor and also town clerk. Subject assisted his father in the mercantile business when young and at the age of ten came to Russia. In 1886 he married Hattie E. Moon, a native of Russia, and a daughter of Harriet and Cameron Moon of Rensselaer and Herkimer counties, respectively. Mr. Moon died January 25, 1891, and his wife still resides in Cold Brook. To subject and wife have been born two sons: Frank and Leon, both residing at home. In 1870 Mr. Coonradt entered the mercantile business with his son Frank and his father-in-law, Mr. Moon. In 1874 Mr. Moon retired and Mr. Coonradt and son continued until 1883, since which time subject has been sole proprietor. He is a Republican and has been town clerk, and is a member of the Newport Lodge 455 F. & A.M.

source:
History of Herkimer County, New York : illustrated with portraits of many of its citizens
edited by George A.
Re: Wilhelm and Henry Coonradt

I have info related to Wilhelm and Henry which I got from Coonradt researcher Dave Young:
Dave Young, Willhelm Coonradt Family Tree http://home_earthlink.net/~dave_young/familypage/coonradt/wi....
Don't know if this site is still active. It was a few years ago. These Coonradt's are not in my direct line but are related to me by marriage. Here are my notes:
"Willhelm Coonradt was born in the Bavarian Palatinate, Germany. He came via Holland, arriving in Rensselaerwyck in 1727. In 1733 he organized a Sunday School and Parochial School, and in 1747 led in the organization of the Gilead Lutheran Church (Center Brunswick, Rensselaer, NY)."
According to Dave Young."Henry the first served in the 15th militia and in the 129th Colonial Army under Schuyler, Sharp and Malcolm,"
According to Dave Young: " Henry Coonradt II, b. 1755 Rensselaerwyck, bapt. with father in 1769, w. Emma. He served under van Rensselaer and was granted 200 acres in Grafton."
According to Dave Young: "Henry the 3d was the grandson of Henry the 1st and greatgrandson of Willhelm the Elder. He grew up in the village of Grafton Cener. He was the father of eight children and was, at one time, postmaster of the village post office."
According to Dave Young: "The sixth son of Henry Coonradt III was George Henry Coonradt, called 'Jady'. His wife was Eunice Poole, and they resided on a 48 acre farm in Grafton Township. George was born in 1812 near the small homestead which he inherited. Eunice was born in 1814 in Grafton Center. She was a lovable character, a good mother and a very hard worker. She died while her two sons were in the army, in 1864. 'Jady lived to visit his children in Illinois in 1866-67, returning to Grafton where he died in 1871.' There were nine children born to Jady and Eunice, six of whom each lived to past their half century mark."
I have been researching the Coonradt families for quite some time. I have some put together.

Wilhelm is my g-g-g-g-g-g-g-grandfather. My line is Wilhelm to Henry to Henry to Henry to George Henry to daughter, Mary Ann Coonradt-Bassett (who later married a Brock) to Clarence William Bassett to my grandfather and then father.

I have been trying to verify that I am a Daughter of the American Revolutionary War. I am trying to prove that Wilhelm and Henry were indeed in the Revolutionary War. But I cannot find either one listed anywhere as been in that war. Can you guide me in a particular direction? I have had the DAR searched. But no one has verified them all the way back yet.

I am also interested in the book "Coonradt Families in America". Does anyone know where I can obtain a book?

Any response or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

michelle bassett-knaack
McHenry, Il
micelk@yahoo.com

I am from Troy and I was just searching around for family history and things of that nature. My Grandmother from my Mother's side is a Coonradt. I just found death/burial records on her and a great uncle. Their names are Inez and Richard. There seems to be a HUGE Coonradt family in the Troy and surrounding areas of Rensselaer county. My last name is Matot but I was curious about the family seeing as my Grandmother died well before I was born. So, if your name is Coonradt, you're more than likely related to these folks and some how we are like 20th cousins or whatever. lol. Also look for the Hansen family in the same area. If you find that you are in any relation to a Marcus Coonradt let me know because that would be my great grandfather.

I'm not sure if we are related, but I am a Coonradt from Saratoga Springs, NY. I have relatives in Saratoga and possibly in Troy. I am looking for any info on my family. My father's name was Howard W. Coonradt, Jr. and his father was Howard W.,Sr. Howard,Sr. had a sister, Hazel and a few brothers - William Dexter are the only ones I'm positive of. He may have had another brother. Is it possible we are talking about the same family?

Today (Oct 16) I attended the wedding of the granddaughter of Hilton (Rufus, Aaron, John, Philipp, Henry III, Henry II, Henry I, Willhelm) Coonradt to my nephew. Hilton and I were discussing genealogy as I have a Coonradt ancestor. Fortunately for the gene pool I could find no connection in America. Hilton did tell me that Caroline Diamond (wife of John Coonradt) was a native American. Does anyone have more info on this?

A while back I started a search for my roots. I have become very busy, But since I started I have learned my grandmas maiden name was Coonradt. Ethel Mae Coonradt. Does this name sound familiar to any one? I believe she spent her younger days in Pleasantdale. AKA Upper Lansingburgh NY, Any information would be welcome, She married and became a Brunick, Harry Brunick, Then when he passed away she became Brideau. And she died using that last name. I will have to reasearch dates.

If you are planning to come east to NY then contact the town historian for Sand Lake NY who knows alot about the Coonradt history.Contacting the town historian for Grafton and Brunswick would also be practical. I'm still stuck on the Henry Coonradt born in 1811. It could be the same one that you have mentioned, but I will have to pursue this further. I just haven't had much time in recent months. According to the historian of Sand Lake, NY, one Coonradt went west, married a plains Indian of unknown ethnicity, then moved back to NY where they raised a family. Rick Bourque

Looking for info on Stephen Coonradt b abt 1794 d Aug 22, 1853 and buried in Link Road Cemetery with his wife Jane.

Also buried there is a Phillip Coonradt b abt 1759 d Sep 2, 1828. Is this Stephen's father? What was Jane's maiden name?

I believe there is a connection in the following biography to this Stephen and Jane:

Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois and Knox County
Munsell Publishing
1899

William Henry Adams: Farmer; Maquon Township; born in Rome, New York, January 22, 1844, educated in Knox County. His father, Andrew Adams, was a native of Ireland; his mother, Sarah (Coonradt), was born in Rome, New York. His maternal grandparents were Stephen and Jane Coonradt; his paternal grandparents were born in Ireland. January 29, 1880, Mr. Adams was married, in Maquon Township to Mary E. Jacobs; they have one child, Lottie. In religion, Mr. Adams is Orthodox. In politics, he is a Democrat.
