This fairy tale persists. The Kentucky Coops were never Kupe. I lived in Germany for years and Kupe would be pronounced the same as Coop. So how would it have been pronounced differently!

William G. Coop 1829 Bible

The William G. Coop family bible was recently placed in the Carnegie Historical Museum in Fairfield, Iowa. Due to the delicate condition of the bible, it has been placed behind a glass viewing window to protect and preserve it for the long term. The bible was printed in 1829, the year he and Nancy Ann Harris were married. The bible contains hand written information about possible previous German spellings of his Coop surname and the birth dates of their 15 children. Photocopies of the writings are available for examination nearby. William's father was David Coop and his mother Christiana. A dress belonging to Christiana is also on display there.

Hi thanks for responding. Here's some info for you.
Edward M. Coop b) Aug. 9th 1935 in Keokuk Iowa to Pansy V Howell b) Jan 10,1904 Missouri d) Feb 25, 1998 Keokuk and Thomas Henry Coop b) Sept. 5, 1891 Missouri d) Oct. 17, 1963 Keokuk Iowa.
My mother's name is Rosemary C. Cogar b) MAy 16, 1939 West Virginia. Her parents are Cecil Clay Cogar her mother's name is Clara Rebecca Rose. Both from West Virginia. Mom and Dad were married in Porta Rico in 1956. Mom is 1 of 12 children and Dad is the oldest of 4 children Thomas Henry and Pansy had together. Pansy was married before and had 3 other children with a Howell. Thomas Henry was married 5 or 6 times was what dad was told growing up. He did get to meet several of his 1/2 brothers. The last he knew several still live in Keokuk. The majority are probably already pasted away. I only wish that I could help him find his beginnings. It's like Jesse doesn't want to be found. I was hoping someone would have broken down the walls and were able to find a little hint.
I didn't give you any info on our family so here goes. I am the oldest daughter I have a older brother named Edward Thomas ( the Thomas was after grandpa) Eddie is married and has one son and 2 daughters all three are married but no grandchildren. Then there is me I have 1 son and 1 daughter I have two granddaughters one by each of my children and my daughter just had a boy so we have been blessed 3 times. Then there is Robert he is married and has 2 daughters niether are married. And last but not least is Catherine Susan she is no longer married . She does have a daughter who is married but no children yet. Dad is retired Air Force. So we traveled alot. I hope I have given enough info if you need more just let me know. Tell me how you are related to my dad.? Thanks Debi

Re: NEW COOP DNA TESTS - WE HAVE A MATCH

In the first DNA test, which was 12 markers, Roy Coop (KY Coops) and Frank Coop (IA Coops) matched 11 out of 12 markers.

Several months later Frank's test was updated to include markers 13-25, as Roy's testing already included these markers. The result was a total match on these additional markers, giving 24 matching markers out of a total of 25 markers. This, combined with a common surname, reinforces the likelihood that these two branches of the Coop family are definitely related.

I am researching the Livsey (Livesey/Livsay)family in Bury Lancashire. I found a Mary Coop married to John Livsey in 1848 in Bury through LDS. I am trying to confirm whether this Mary Coop is indeed the wife of my ancestor John Livsey. John was a tailor (b. abt 1820) living in Bury with wife "Mary" and children Elizabeth (my line), Robert, James, Eliza, William and Emma.

Is the Coop line connected to mine through a marriage to John Livsey?

Hi,

My cousin Frank Harold Coop, Jr. (the IA Coops) and Roy Coop (the KY Coops) both took the DNA tests. They had a 24/25 match. The one marker they did not match on is what is called a "fast-moving marker", which means that this marker probably changed in their generation or back a generation or two and thus is not relevant in view of the other 24 matches.

David Coop Sr. (my ancestor) is known to have been married in Franklin Co. VA in 1794; a John Coop was married in Franklin Co. VA in 1793; John Coop Sr. (the KY Coops) is known to be from VA. I don't think, considering the DNA evidence, the shared surname, and the two VA marriages, that it is a huge leap to conclude that the John Coop in Franklin Co. VA is the ancestor of the KY Coops and thus the brother of David Coop Sr.

Karen

Wondering about Coop ancestry (Kentucky) or German stuff

I am really just fiddling around with my family history/genealogy but I was wondering if anyone ever decided / figured out / proved that the KY Coop family was German or English. From the posts I have read and from the DNA website, the DNA testing did not and could not possibly determine this answer.

In case anyone is interested..how I fit in is:

my ggrandfather was Walter Ferris (1897) married to Osa D Wesley FROM Oscar Franklin (1878) married to Dora Inez Jones FROM George Washington (1844) married to Clary Patriot Ooten FROM John R. married to Susannah A. Monk(1805) FROM John (1768) married to Sarah G. Hall

I don't even know if any of this is fact but this is what I have gathered looking at different websites...except for the fact that Walter Ferris Coop was my great-grandfather....I know that for sure (-;

If I am wrong about any of that could someone please let me know. I really am just fiddling around with genealogy so that I will have a good starting point to work on things with my children should they ever develop an interest. Thanks! Andrew
