On Monday morning, August 8, at her home in Cedar Mills, God took into His care the life of Alta Staggs, who spent her life here on earth in the service of her family and friends. She was among mothers the greatest.
Alta was born in Monroe Township, Adams County, Ohio on January 11, 1909 to Wylie and Mary McCarty Copas.
Preceding her in death were her father, Wylie Copas, and grandson, Daryl Johnson.
Alta was a member of the Beasley Fork Christian Union Church and the Cedar Mills Methodist Church.
Alta was united in marriage to Oscar E. Staggs, Sr. June 12, 1926 by Rev. Eugene Mills. To this union six children were born, Mary Johnson of Cincinnati, Oscar, Jr., and Geraldine Lacy of West Union, Harold of Carlisle, Karen Grooms of West Union, Route 1 and Linda Calvert of West Union, Route 2.
Alta is survived by her husband, Oscar, Sr. and her six children; her mother, Mary Copas Hull; two brothers, Albert Copas of Salanis, Calif. And Elmer Copas of West Union, Route 2, and two sisters, Bethany Copas and Nealie Grooms of West Union, Route 2. She also leaves her sons-in-law, Lomar Johnson, Charles Lacy, Robert K. Grooms and Billy Calvert. Her daughters-in-law are Rose Mary Staggs and Ruth Staggs. There are 18 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who will miss her love and kindness. She leaves her brother-in-law, Chilton Grooms and sister-in-law Elizabeth Copas; also, a niece, Grace Sininger of Amelia, Ohio.
