May I make a suggestion?

My g-g-grandmother was Sarah "Sally" COPENHAVER, b.22 Feb 1801, Wythe Co., VA (became Smyth Co. in 1832); d.22 Feb 1868, Smyth Co., VA; m.George DUTTON 12 Feb 1822, Wythe Co.

I try to tie in any COPENHAVERs to my ancestors but it is difficult when those who post give so little information.

Therefore, I suggest that when you ask for information, or give information, you include EVERYTHING you know about the people you are writing about. That includes, e.g., full names; dates/places of birth, marriage, divorce, and death; spouses and all information on them to include parents/ancestors; siblings; children; etc.

Who the John, brother of Rolly? WHICH John? You know there have been more than one John COPENHAVER over the centuries. WHICH John Henry COPENHAVER who married someone named Anna Marie? I have a John Henry COPENHAVER In my database, but he was born in 1847, too early to be the John Henry COPENHAVER discussed here.

PLEASE, PLEASE, gives at least dates and places when discussing anyone. You might be surprised how much help you will receive if you give enough information for the rest of us to key in on your particular searches.

Thanks,
George W.
I found an 18 year old Wilmot Bly living with a William and Mary Ann Copenhaver family in Shenandoah, VA on the 1850 census, but I can't find an entry for her before that. She isn't listed as mulatto but there's a check mark by her name... as though the census taker maybe had to ask. Any ideas?

I am married to a Copenhaver and I am looking for information on his father's side. I am doing this for my three children who are Copenhaver's and I know they will ask this later, so I want to be ready to answer them. My husband has not really talk to his father hardly since his parent's divorce when he was three. The children's grandfather does not come around or care. Oh, he knows they do exist but he doesn't bother. It would be nice if someone can help me with this. I do have information that goes back to my husband's grandfather's mother but not his great grandfather. He was not in the 1920 Federal Census. It only stated that the mother was widow but I do have her name. If someone can help, it would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out my Copenhaver line and hope someone has the missing piece of the puzzle. I descend from Johannes Friedrich Branstetter and his wife, Magdelene COALHAVEN. They were married in Montgomery County, VA in the very late 1700's, probably around 1798 or 1799. The marriage record lists Magdelene's surname as COALHAVEN. Since COALHAVEN isn't really a surname, and there were COPENHAVERS all around, I believe that Magdelene was a COPENHAVER. The trouble is that I haven't been able to figure out whose daughter she was. If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!

PLEASE NOTE, THIS WAS POSTED FOR REFERENCE ONLY. I AM NOT RELATED TO, NOR AM I RESEARCHING THIS FAMILY, I’VE ONLY DONE A COPY AND PASTE FROM OUR LOCAL NEWSPAPER FYI.

THIS INFO HAS BEEN POSTED WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE EDITOR OF THE COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD.

Beth E. Copenhaver
Posted: Monday, Oct 27, 2008 - 04:01:47 pm PDT
COLUMBIA BASIN HERALD, MOSES LAKE, WASHINGTON.

Beth E. Copenhaver, age 80, was born on May 14, 1928, in Newport, Wash., to Maude Graham Geaudreau and Guy Leonard Geaudreau. She was the second of three children. She passed away at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake on Oct. 23, 2008, due to complications from congestive heart failure. She grew up in Blanchard, Idaho where she attended grade school, and graduated from Newport High School in 1946. She attended the University of Idaho and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education in 1950. Prior to her graduation, she met and married the love of her life, Howard Vernon Copenhaver. They were married on Aug. 1, 1948, in Newport, Wash., and established their first home together in Moscow while completing their college educations. They had three children, Katie, Phillip, and Denise and lived there until moving with the Arden Farms company to Moses Lake in 1960. Her passion for life showed in the many organizations and activities in which she was involved. Beth spent many years actively working in Republican Party politics and served several years as the state committee woman from Grant County on the Republican State Committee. She enjoyed her work and met many of the national senators and representatives, governors and state officials. One of the highlights of her life was meeting President George H.W. and Mrs. Barbara Bush during a visit to Washington, D.C. Beth also enjoyed being a member and past president of the Daughters of the Nile and also was a member of Beta Sigma Phi for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Moses Lake. She delighted in being a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. Some of her favorite activities and interests were travelling, swimming, reading, listening and playing all types of music and time at the family lake cabin. We will miss her strength of character, patriotism, ability to tell great stories, wonderful hugs, sense of humor and her smile. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Copie” and one granddaughter, Claudia Kay Rigsby. She is survived by her three children, Katie Rigsby and husband Larry of Richland, Wash.; Phillip Copenhaver and his wife Christine of Moses Lake; and Denise Pulliam and her husband Walter of Enumclaw, Wash. Her surviving grandchildren include Nicole Wagner and her husband 1st lieutenant, Kyle, Christopher Copenhaver, Stephanie Pulliam, and Paul Copenhaver. Other family members include a brother, Dale Geaudreau and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow at the First Presbyterian Church at 1142 W. Ivy Avenue. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Newport cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Beth’s memory may be given to either the First Presbyterian Church in Moses Lake or to the Shrine’s Hospital for Children at PO Box 2472, Spokane, WA 99210-2472. Kayser’s Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Hi,
I am not related, but I have information that seems to be missing from any site. I bought a box of World War 1 things almost 20 years ago at auction.I came across it, and there in with the things this gentleman, Paul Copenhaver b. 1893 (from Lebanon, PA). There was a 5x7 card with some family information. I wanted to post it in hopes someone needed it.It was hand written and looks to be pretty old.

Thomas Copenhaver B. 1761 died 1845
His wife Catharina B. 1768 died 1837
both bodies were buried in old Lutheran cemetary, Jonestown, PA(but now since)the church built a new Sunday School right on the cemetary sight, the bodies were all removed and interred in one grave on the cemetary.

John Copenhaver Born 1808 died 1855
His wife Magdalena (new Boshore) born 1817 and died 1882- These bodies are buried in the new Reformed Cemetary Jonestown and the family block(?) is still there.

The above Thomas Copenhaver also had another son William born 1804 died 1865 and his wife Sarah born 1809 died 1868.These two bodies were also buried on the block with Thomas Copenhaver at Jonestown and reburied at above sight with his father and mother Thomas and Catharina Copenhaver.

Kate Copenhaver, b.1878, dau of Robert/Matilda, lived Boone Co./Bartholomew Co., IN

I have two original Cabinet Card photographs of “Kate Copenhaver” and of “Copenhaver Family”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo of Kate Copenhaver was taken in Columbus (Bartholomew Co.) IN – and the family photo was taken in Lebanon (Boone Co.) IN. Kate looks about 18-20 in her photo and the family photo (which gives no first names) shows an adult man and woman with females about 28, 25, 22, 18, one holding a baby – and males about 14, 8, 6 and 4.

In the 1900 Boone Co. census, I found Robert G. (Sep 1843), with wife Matilda E. (Aug 1874) and their children. They were: Katie M. (May 1878), William H. (Apr 1880), Robert K. (Apr 1883), Albert W. (Oct 1885). Living nearby were John J. (Jun 1879), with his wife Anna (Jun 1880), and also a Keri Copenhaver (Aug 1882) living with sister Susan (Edward) Johnson – Susan’s DOB: Feb 1865. Obviously the younger children in the photo were grandchildren of Robert and Matilda.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to this Copenhaver family.

THEY LIVED IN HUNTINGDON CO, PA, AS WELL AS DAVID'S PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS. BALTZAR (SPELLED MULTIPLE WAYS) COPENHAVER WAS BORN IN 1742, AND DIED IN HUNTINGDON CO, PA ABT 1801.

He continued his fraternal work and became a Shriner and was a member of the Big Bend Shrine Clown Club and the Pacific Northwest Shrine Clown Association.
I have a bit of a strange request. My 5xgreat-grandfather, John Hoover, is said to have served under Capt. Thomas Copenhaver. I am working on finding what, if any battles of the Revolution he fought in and I am wondering if anyone can tell me by way of which battles your Thomas served in?
Thank you!

Hello. I am searching for a Copenhaver male who married a woman with surname of Miller in the late 1790's or early 1800's. They had children: Henry, John, Jacob, Abraham, Sarah (all surname Copenhaver). The woman's father was Henry Miller of Shirley Twp; Henry died in 1818.

Please let me know if these names are familiar.

Thanks.

Sue Palmer

Hello Sue,

I might be able to help, but would need more information from you.

Where is Shirley Twp, Huntingdon Co.? What state?
What time frame are you talking about? 1720, 1820, 1920, etc. If you have the will, you must know when it was written/probated.

There were/are many, many COPENHAVER's. MILLER is, of course, a very common name.

Just for info, when making queries like this, BE SURE to provide ALL the data you have, e.g., specific dates & places (where known), ANY & ALL data you have, not matter how trivial it may seem to you.

Regards,
Sgt. George
