This is new info to me. I will have to do some research. Thank you for providing this new info. There is a possibility that the Peter who married Phebe was Anna's brother. There was also a David Worlow in Harrison County around the time that Peter and Phebe were there before his death. All I have on him is that he owned one horse.

Can you tell me where in Berks Co., Pa, that Peter Worlow is listed. Was that the tax list that you mentioned earlier. so far I have not been able to find him listed. Thank you for all your help.

Phebe Coprass married Peter Worlon (Worlow) in Harrison County, Indiana,on Sept. 25, 1815. He later died and Phebe Worlow married a John Wise in Harrison County, Indiana, on March 6, 1831. You can find them in Harrison County census in 1840 and in 1850 and 1860 under the name of John Vice (Wise).

No, I am not sure that Phebe was Bolser Coppess' daughter but feel she was some kin to him. I think that Peter Worlow was probably Anna Philimina Worlow Coppess' son but again no proof. I don't know where the uncle comes in play.

Thank you for your help. It is much appreciated.

I am researching Phebe Coprass and Peter Worlon (Worlow) who married in Harrison County, Indiana, on Sept. 25, 1815. I have land records which indicate that Phebe was married to Peter Worlow in Harrison County, Indiana, and that she sold her land and married a John Wise in Harrison County, Indiana, on March 6, 1831. There is a John
Wise listed in the 1840 census of Harrison County with one female which could have been Phebe. Then in the 1850 census there is a John Vise and Phebe Vise listed in Harrison County which I believe could have been Wise instead of Vice. The ages are agreeable. Peter and Phebe had two children, a son and daughter, according to the 1830 census of Harrison County which is listed under Phebe Werlow. I have reason to believe they are my great, great grandparents. I am hoping to find someone who can give me more information on them.

I am doing research on a Phebe Coprass who married a Peter Worlow in Harrison County, Indiana, on September 25, 1815. The marriage record listed Peter as Peter Worlan. This was actually Peter Worlow. I am wondering if the Peter and Anna you mentioned with the sirname of Worlon was actually Worlow also. I have reason to believe that Peter and Phebe were my great grandparents but no proof.

Yes I am very interested in the Peter Copperas family in North Carolina, Indiana, Missouri. I have a pic of Elizabeth and Valentine Miller's house built when they married ca 1820 and still standing in 1980's. I have located first farm entered by Peter Coprass near present-day Crandall. I have her sibling marriage licenses recorded in Harrison Co. Please send along any information you can on this family. THANKS!

Roger, I too am researching Copperas. Mary was married to David Fox ( being my gggrandparents) in1820, Corydon, Harrison Co. In. They moved to Marion Co. In. about 1825 and then went by ox cart caravan with a group of 49 others to Knox Co. Mo. Both were born in N.C. in 1793. Mary, Elizabeth Miller, Catherine("katie" m. Wm. Fox.) Adam Copperas (m. Sally Fox) etc. were all siblings. I have a little more info if you are still researching this. I would appreciate anything on the Fox info if you run into it. Knox Co Mo. has a very helpfull website and there are lots of copperas listed on the 1850 census at the site. Check all spellings. My mother always thought it was "Coppers". Good luck-
judy

Jonise
I have no information on Native American lineage for this family. I have only Mary Alice Chadwick, daughter of John Milton Chadwick and 1st wife Eliza Jane Copras. Mary Alice born March 20, 1865 and married James Heenan about 1883 in Knox Co., MO. The Copperas info I have is from the Peter Copperas site. I have only internet info for them, nothing documented.
Eliza Jane (or Elizabeth) died in May, after Mary Alice was born. He married Helen Canterberry (in our line) in December 1866 when Helen was 14 years old.
Beth

I am searching for the ancestry of Elizabeth Coprass who married Valentine Miller 12 Mar 1816 in Harrison Co., IN. My best guess is her father is the Peter Coperas (Coprus) of the 1830 census, Peter Coperos of the 1820 census is listed as 45 or older, 1 male under 10, 2 males 16-18, 3 males 26-44, 2 females 10-16, 2 females 16-25 and 1 female aged 45 or older. In the 1810 is Peter Copperas in Harrison Twp., Harrison Co., IN with 2 males under 10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 45 and up, 3 females under 10, 2 fem. 10-16, 2 fem.16-26 and 1 fem. 26-45. The 1813 Tax List has Peter Coprass with 160 acres and 2 horses. The 1818 Voter List has Peter Coprass listed March 1818. The occupation on the census is agriculture. There are no listings for Peter in 1840 or 1850 in IN. and no other by Copperas or variant surnames from 1810-1830 in Harrison Co., IN. In same county are these marriage records who may be sisters. Catharine Coppass m. William Fox 23 Oct 1828, Mary Coppass m. David Fox 19 Nov 1820, Amelia Copperice m. William Miller 30 Mar 1823, Pheba Coprass m. Peter Worlan 25 Sep 1815, and Susan Copros m. Valentine Knoyer 16 Dec 1819. If anyone connects please respond.

In addition there is a Peter Coppass who married Elizabeth Fox on 13 Apr. 1826 in Harrison Co., IN. and Elizabeth Copposs who married Archibald Linder 18 Aug 1845 there. Also find a John Coppes in nearby Crawford Co., IN in 1840 census and Lorenzo Coppas in the 1850 IN census. Any connection?

Roger
Information in the "Peter Copperas" web site indicates that an
Adam Copperas married Sally Fox in 1832 in Marion County Indiana. There appears to be several Copperas-Fox unions. I have no documentation for this - just noticed the website. Their daughter Eliza Jane Copras (sp?) was the first wife of my husbands -gg grandfather, John Milton Chadwick. Many of the family members moved to Knox Co. MO where there was intermarrige with the Boone, Chadwick families also in my husband's line.
Beth

Copperas - Copras - Coppers 1836-1865

I don't know much about this family. Eliza Jane Copras(or Copperas or Coppers) b. abt 1836, married John Milton Chadwick July 13, 1854 in Knox Co., MO. She was the mother of at least 7 children prior to her death in 1865 in MO. Children John F., William H., Sarah A., George Adam, Eliza J., Virginia, and Mary Alice. In the 1860 MO Census Eliza Jane is listed as being born in Indiana. I don't know if there is any connection to Adam Copperas b 1810 in Indiana. His wife was Sarah?
With several names in common, perhaps there is a connection. John Milton Chadwick married a 2nd wife after Eliza's death. The 2nd wife, Helen L. Canterbury, is in my husband's line.
Hope this gives you some leads to follow. Good luck. Beth
