I have a good deal of information on the Coppersmith's name, but I'm not sure at this time if I have any from Wisconsin. The original spelling was kupferschmidt. Most of mine came from the Maryland area preferably Carroll County, Maryland. I would be willing to check into it, but I can't access it at this time.

I am having trouble finding my great grandfather and great grandmother. My grandfather was Alonzo Coppersmith born 2/18/1889. His mom was Elizabeth Sykes sometimes referred to as Marie. His dad Upsher (Upsure) Coppersmith but sometimes referred to as John...they were both from North Carolina around Elizabeth City....in Pasquotank County....does anyone have any information (darryl7734@yahoo.com). Doesn't seem like you can request birth certificates for these folks that far back. Thanks Ruth

Their father was Theodore Coppersmith, Sr. They were born and raised in New Orleans. I have very little information other than that.
Coppersmith/Kupferschmitt family from Brooklyn NY

If anyone is related to or searching for info on the Coppersmith/Kupferschmitt originally from Brooklyn, NY I have info on them. I am researching a Philip Kupferschmitt who was born in Germany c. 1822 & came to the US in 1851. He had three children Barbara, Catherine & Joseph with him from his first marriage. His wife died on the voyage and he married Regina Strumpfler another passenger on the immigration. They settled in Brooklyn, NY (Williamsburg area) and had 7 children together. Some decendents moved into Staten Island and Queens, NYC. Some related surnames through female marriages include Beckey, Troy, Powers, Odorfer, Schnee, Parizot, Knef, Felten, Klein, Lent, Lay and Wunsch to name a few.

I found you post when I googled the name William Coppersmith.

Though not related to Bill...I was friends with him (sometimes in constant contact, sometimes very minimal) for years.

I think that we are talking about the same William Coppersmith. He lived on Tremont Ave. On the 7th Floor. Apt. 102.

Your sister is a police officer in NYC. You are, I think, a baker in a Mountain State...Washington or Colorado.

Maybe not...but thought it was worth a try.

Randy

My great great great grandfather was Alexis Copesmette - who immigrated to the US in March 1856 on the Chimborazo. My family line eventually settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Personally, my immediate family has lived in Florida for the past 29 years. I have most of my family's geneaology information - if you are interested.

Donald,My gr gr grandfather Charles Coppersmith was born in Germany about 1829/30. He may be descended from the German immigrant family of Rome,NY, having come over from Germany as a child. If this is true then he went to NYC in the 1850s, married an Irish immigrant, Martha Speers. They are in the 1860 and 1870 NYC census. Their son Charles Coppersmith Jr born about 1862 in NYC was my gr grandfather. Charles Coppersmith Sr appears to have been in the Civil War as a Cavalry soldier. Another of my NYC gr gr grandfathers was in this same NYC regiment. Knowing they were friends, I think the Civil War Coppersmith is my gr gr. For unknown reasons this Civil War veteran moved from NYC to Illinois and is shown with another wife and child in the 1880 census. Then he turns up in Kansas where he applies for his CW pension and by 1900 he is in Chicago at age 70 with another wife and family. If you follow him through the yrs, the similarities are great and there are very few Charles Coppersmiths. He is the only C. Coppersmith of this age that I could find.My research to date on this is incomplete. At present I'm trying to discover if this Civil War veteran, Charles Coppersmith, is my gr gr grandfather.

Celeste,I have much info on this Charles Coppersmith because he may have been my gr gr grandfather. He WAS born in Germany. According to 1900 Chicago census he was born Aug 1829 in Germany, coming to US when he was about 7, about 1836. I'd like to share with you and am very interested in the 1910 obituary. He definitely lived in Peoria Co Ill and was married there in 1871, possibly to his 2nd wife, Louisa LaFolette. Hope we can connect.

Charles Coppersmith of Company A, Mounted Rifles, enlisting in NYC, Civil War veteran, have much information on him because he may be my gr gr grandfather. Born 1829/30 in Germany, came to US as a chld, possibly the son of Jacob Coppersmith of Rome, NY, I have followed him from NYC to Peoria, Ill, on to Harvey Co Kansas, then Mo where he filed for his Civil War pension and then Chicago at the age of 70. He appears to have had 2 or 3 wives, Martha Speers(Irish) in NYC, Louisa LaFollett in Peoria, Ill and Kansas, and in the 1900 Chicago census, an Irish wife whose name I can't read. He has a son Earl W. by this marriage. Earl lived in Sioux City, Iowa. IF this is my gr gr, his oldest daughter was Sophia Coppersmith Wilson. Other children by his 1st marriage were Julius, Jane, Charles(1862-1890), and David who married an Ella Stilwell in NYC. Know of only one child by his 2nd marriage, another Charles born Ill about 1872. Children by 3rd marriage in 1900 Chicago census are difficult to read. Orpha,Earl,Lucy?,and Rosebud? I'd like to know where and when this Charels Coppersmith(1829-?) died. I have more information to share if this is of interest to someone else.

I ran across your postings in ancestery.com and was quite surprised. I haven't really dug into my great grandmothers family yet, and you saved me a lot of leg work!
My fathers mother Daisy Irene (Spencer) Woodworth was a daughter of Amy Coppersmith. Although I knew her parents were Granville and Susan Meyers Coppersmith, I haven't researched it yet. My grandmother Daisy was adopted after her mother died by a couple named Fietz who moved to New York State (Hornell, Steuben Co.). She was eventually found by the rest of the family and corresponded and visited with them for many years (she is now dead). She took many trips to Maryland to visit. She Married Norman Leroy Woodworth (my grandfather) and raised quite a large family in New York State. I have much genealogy data on her family, including brothers and sisters, and am willing to share data. Do you have ant more than what was listed?
My name is Norm Woodworth and I now live in Michigan, I grew up in New York State next door to my grandmother.
Looking forward to your response!
