Hi Jenny,
I have checked my Corby Family Tree and I cannot find any link with any Groombridge or Ball families. My Corby's were concentrated in the Coventry area in the late 1800's mainly in the Watchmaking/Jewelry and Silk Weaving trades.

Good Hunting

Graham

Unfortunately I have no photos of anyone. All information I have gleaned have been from government records and websites. Fortunately, the records are fairly good regarding the Corby family.

Thanks for the contact tip for Terry Overton, I have had contact with him but will definitely follow it up.

Regards
Terri

Hi Terri,

I'm descended from Christina Corby who was the eldest daughter of William Thomas Corby and his second wife Ellen Carroll. I'd be happy to share information I have such as photos and a family tree of descendants of WT Corby and I'd much appreciate any information you have. In particular I'm looking for any old photos of WT Corby, his wife, children or grandchildren.

I must say that the other Terri, Terry Overton has done an incredible amount of work and it would be worth contacting him if you have not heard of him yet. So far we haven't moved beyond WT Corby's parents but there is much available of his descendants. What research have you done so far and who are you descended from?

My email address is: peripatus2000@yahoo.com.au

Cheers

Adam

Oza Corby, born 1874 & died 1945. His parents were Samuel Corby & Elizabeth Mitchell Corby. They married 1/17/1865. Samuel was born 1845 in Augusta Co., VA. Oza's first wife was Laura. 1884-1915 I only know of Madge & Dewey being their children. Second wife was Sallie. 1887-1956 The 1920 census lists Madge, Dewey, Blaine, Johny, Albert, Lynn, & Samuel. I know there were at least 2 more, Elizabeth, married a Wolford & lived in Phoenix, AZ. There also was a Lawrence Winfield Corby 1922-2006. Oza is buried in Washington Co., TN at the Philadelphia Community Cemetery.

I am a direct descendant to James H. Corby and need to correct some information that through my own early queries i'm seeing repeated as a fact on several of the Corby family tree lines. Several years back our family had originally believed his first wife's name to be Cora E. I am now needing to correct that error through my researching this information that . James H. Corby's first wife's name is Ella E. (she is the mother of his 6 children). His second wife's name is Sarah A. Swartz. The family line is outlined below with the new corrections. -

James H. Corby b.
Willis T or Willie E. Corby

I am working on the James H. Corby family line. I have found out the following information and am seeking anyone who may be able to help connect who Willis' parents are. I know the following. James H. Corby (son of Thomas Day Corby) buys cemetery plots in 1891 at the time of willis' death 1891. I can identify who the other Corby's are that are buried at the cemetery, I am unable to find anyone named Willis or Willie who would have passed at age 18 years of age on any other close family lines. Does anyone have a 'missing' willis?

Hi There, sorry for my late reply.

As far as I know, my William Thomas Corby was born in London in about 1813 to parents Thomas Corby and Martha Ann Reynolds. I don't know if he had any brothers but I believe he had a sister called Hannah Maria. I know the Corby name is common around Lincoln but I have no idea if my Corbys originally came from there!

Cheers
Adam

Hi George,
I am afraid that to date I have been unable to establish a link with any of my Corby line of descent who ' crossed the pond '. I have confirmed Corby's who emigrated/deported to Australia, but none who went to the US.

I have traced my line back to Frederick Corby 1808 where he and many members of the family lived in the Coventry, Warwickshire area of the Midlands. Many worked in the Jewellry, Watchmaking and Silk Ribbon trades.

I have many other contacts with my line and if you are able to establish a link for us it would be a tremendous breakthrough.

Best Regards

Graham Powell, ( Mother a Corby )

Thanks for the reply. First off, I purchased the medals from a reliable New York collector who had purchase them from a Dublin dealer some time ago. The name that was associated with the medals is James Corby. I went to Ireland on holidays and while I was there did some research at the National Archives and to the best of my knowledge, the only information I was able to find was a death certificate that said date and place of death was 1962 Feb 25th 66 Main Street Tipperary and that he was 74, married, was a shopkeeper. The Residence of the informant was James (either M or U middle initial) COrby, son, 66 Main Street Tipperary. A funny thing, that would make him born in 1888 and when I researched the births in that yaer, it said Belfast, son of James Corry so I don't know if that's a typing mistake of the name got changed. Also, apparently, anyone who was issued the truce medal in 1921 was supposed to be alive in 1971 when they received the survivors medal. I did find one article in the Irish Times (I don't have it now) that stated that medals could have also went to the family if the person was deceased by 1971.When I wrote to the D of D, they said they have a file referece for a James COrby in their records in respect to a medal application/ That's it. Any help would be great. I can also be emailed at richard.prudom@st-clair.net

My Great Grandmother was Ethel Corby. She also had relly's in Jersey. I am looking for any and all Corby's from the NJ/PA area. There is a methodist church in Larksville, PA (off what used to be Larksville Road)which borders Courtdale, PA. and I know my family was big in the church so they should have some records that will help in your search. The church might be called Courtdale or Larksville Methodist. There is also a Corby family Cemetary in Shavertown, PA off Rte. 309 and Church Road which should have records as well (though there was an issue of mis-burial sites a few years back.)

Re: Harvey Corby NJ --> PA

Harvey Corby was my uncle.(I think- he may have been great or great great uncle) I know that he has a gravesite in Shavertown, PA. My great grandmother was Ethel Corby, she has a sister that passed away in a car accident in NJ. I'm not sure if her sisters name was Mazie or Margaret since the family always called her "Mamiths" (pronounced May-meths)She also had a brother, who passed away as well and I can't remember if his name was Harvey or Aaron. I'm sorry I wish I could be more clear on that for you. The family cemetary is off the Luzerne/Dallas Highway (Rte 309) and Church Road - basically if you were going northwest on 309, you would turn left at the light at Church Road (if you turn right at the signal you would be on Carverton Road). Anyway, the Church and Family Cemetary is on the right. It's the first church you come to. Also if this helps, the Corby's settled in and around the Courtdale area of PA. And the Corby Family used to own the land from highway 309 to the east to Church road (which runs into chase road) to the north, to Larksville road to the east and to E. State street to the south. I know it was always referred to as "Corby Mountain" and there are still many Corby family members that live on Corby Road which runs off E. State Street in Courtdale. There used to be a riding stable on Corby Road, which was called Tomo Jones' Riding Stable. The Joneses were also family friends. I know the father Tom Jones (original stable owner) had two kids (which if still alive would be in their 70's. The kids names were Tom and Lydia Jones. There was also a guy Zeke (and for the life of me I can't remember his last name) Also family friends. But they all lived on and around Corby road. I remember "Uncle Aaron" Corby walking down the mountain. You might also take note that Molly and Colleen Corby (models from the 60's) were also family and grew up in Luzerne. There was also "Big Ariel and Little Ariel" which were Corby's. I'm sorry, I'd like to be more clear on this, but I haven't lived in that area in 30yrs, and haven't seen most of them since a Corby Family Reunion when I was very young. I know the Meeker family was related, but I don't know how. As were the Myrick's (my other great-grandmother's family)and the Jenkins family. My great grandmother Ethel (Corby) married Silas Williams. They had two daughters (Avis Mae & Mazie Vivian) Avis married Russell Breckenridge and Mazie married Delmar Davis.
Avis and Russell had two daughters (Shirley and Janice) Shirley married Harold Wargo, had 1 son Christopher and daughter Tracy. Janice married Theodore Ringsdorf. They had 3 children- Theodore Jr., Liane, Brian.
Mazie and Delmar had 6 children (Gloria Jean, Bradley Hugh, Gale Patricia, Avis Mae, Delmar Jr. & Sharon)Gloria married Richard Tomasura, They had 1 child Leslie (me), Bradley married Mildred _____?? they had 5 children - Anthony, Michael, Bradley Jr., Mildred and Mazie. He also had another child Maurice from a 2nd wife, and another daughter Kimberly out of wedlock.
Gale was only married for a very short time and has no biological children, but did help in raising Bradley's daughter Kimberly. I do not remember Gale's husband's name. Avis never married and passed away at 49.
Delmar married 3 times, one of his wives names was Judith. I know he has a son Jonathan Todd Davis, and a son by his 3rd wife Amber.(The son's name escapes me).
Sharon (middle name unknown) married Andrew Natt. They had 4 children (Sandra, Ronald, Susie & Debbie).
GLoria's daughter Leslie married Steven Theodore Hulberg and had 1 son. Corby Steven Hulberg. currently living in California.
Kimberly Deski (Bradley's child) married John Mansi. They have no children. Currently living in Phildpehia.
Mildred married a man by the last name of Curtis. She just gave birth to her first child, a daughter. I do not know the daughter's name. They live in Florida
Sharon's children Sandra, Ronald & Debbie all have children. Sandra's daughter's name is Cassandra. Debbie's son is named James. I do not know Ronald's children(s) names. Susie is not married and does not have children. She is a registered nurse and lives in West Pittston, PA with her mother Sharon (now divorced).
I hope this information helps. I know Mildren Curtis (Bradley's daughter) lives in FL. and is also looking for family members to try to put together the family tree.
I know that my mother Gloria, would have more information on this and could tell you more about Harvey and other family members better than I. Also Shirley Wargo (residing in Shavertown, PA) could help some too as I believe she is the current keeper of the family bible.

Hello, You are my cousins from Tasmania. I live in Victoria. This James Corby in Ireland is related to us. I am following up with the owner of the medals and will contact family in Ireland to confirm details.

Regards
Denise

I had an e-mail from you but lost your contact details from the Kyneton historical Society earlier this year. I was there two weeks before you went there. You can get me at bbg@tpg.com.au

Since my message in 2003, I have since found out that the middle initial "S" stands for "Sullivan". Hence--William SULLIVAN Hayden, and his son, Elmer SULLIVAN Hayden. I had guessed in might stand for "Sherman", but not so. This family resided in the area of Wallowa County, OR.
