Cordier Family from Brussels, Belgium

I am looking for information on the Cordier Family from Brussels, Belgium. So far this is all I know: Louisa (Louise) Josephine Cordier was Born in 1836 to a Charles Cordier who was Born in Brussels also, probably between 1790-1816 sometime. On Louisa's death certificate it lists no first name but the last name Burger as her mother, also born in Brussels, Belgium.

Louisa(Louise)Josephine Cordier married a Herbert (Hubert) Edward Moreau (B: 05 Nov 1837 in Mettet, Namur, Belgium) as her husband. They moved to the United States, settling in Foxborough, Norfolk, Massachusetts. She died 02 Nov. 1894. They had five childern, with the first one being born in Mettet, Namur, Belgium.

I am looking for information on her mother, the unknown Burger. As well as her father Charles Cordier. I am also trying to find out if she had any siblings that may or may not have come to the United State also.

If anyone has any further information of any kind please post!

Thanks, Annette

I am Virginia Cordia Gist. My father's name is David Cordia son of Francis and Sarah Cordia. My grandfather was the son of Hypolite Cordia, all from Richwoods Missorui. Francis and Sarah had 12 children, one of whom died as an infant, and, their son Michael was killed in WWI and he is buried France. St. Stephens Catholic Church in Richwoods has a website that lists all the names in its cemetery:
www.ststephenchurchrichwoodsmo.org
I am very interested in knowing the history of my family and would greatly appreciate knowing all the information. Thanks, Virginia

I have Eugene's death certificate, he died in 1904 in Pawtucket, RI, the age listed is 40. He was married to Louise Mazeas. His parents are listed as Edouard and Marie. All of these family members are born in France. Is there anyone who has any more information on any of these people?

Marcella. I've been hoping to find a marriage licence on a Charles Victor Cordier and Mary?? noted on the 1860 Dakota territory, Census, that Victor was born in France and Mary in Missouri, as well as their first born son John Cordier. I's just taking a guess that they were probably married in Missouri around 1850, John was born in 1849/1850, But I noticed reading the message boards that there was an Adelle Cordier from missouri, Charles victor and Mary's first daughter's name was Adelle?? I thought maybe she could've been named after his mother or Aunt? anyway, if you could help me in anyway. I'd love to find Charles and Mary Cordier's family for my husband. Thank you for your help!

Re: any translation of CORDIER, CORDIA to english?

of course, it would be **after** i posted this query, that i saw an older post (the one with 21 replies) wherein it mentions, translation of CORDIER, CORDIA was a rope maker. so there you go.
i also wanted to say that I bet the pronunciation for CORDIER was cord ee ay. and i read that it was, also in some older threads. no doubt, as with my french surnames, CORDIA was spelled that way--to simplify pronunciation by others. and because it sounded a certain way. like the census takers. I think difft. nationalities were mixing together in America and it was hard for them to hear and understood what to them were foreign-sounding names.
that happened with my french surnames too, either for pronunciation or to "americanize" it. i should've mentioned the var. of my COURTOUISE became COURTOIS, COURTOWAY, COURTAWAY, CORTOIS, and for RULO. the orig. surname was ROULEAU, possibly even ROULEAUX somewhere else.
but anyway, abt translation of CORDIER, i answered my own question. and sorry if i bothered anyone. thanks. tess

to Phyllis MUNDEL...want to trade info, Henrietta MAYOR & George TURNTINE

dear phyllis: i saw this older post here, and hoped we could exchange info in Re: your husband's family. I believe i tried the email, but it's now defunct, which is to be expected by now.
I know about the TURRENTINE FAMILY bks, most recently, the 1996 one, but i'd still like to verify my info. i think it stops short. and i'm willing to share my info. I think george is a bro. to my ancestor, if i remember correctly. if you're there, please reply. or any others with ties to these folks.
I am not looking directly at my records, but it seems henrietta's sibling is also related to my TURNTINE's somehow. anyway, thanks for your time. tessie TURNTINE BYLUND

""Re: Cordia's (Cordier) of Missouri
mundellpe1 (View posts) Posted:	22 Nov 2001 3:14AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames:
My husbands Grandmother was a granddaughter of Hypolite Cordia, and a daughter of Mary Louise Cordia, who was married to John Mayor. Her name was Henrietta Louise Mayor, married to George Turntine. I would very much like to have any info on the family and any pictures. I can't thank you enough. I have been trying to find pictures but until now had lost hope, so if there is any way possible to send them jpeg, my e-mail address is mundellpe@yahoo.com Thanks again Phyllis Mundell"

any translation of CORDIER, CORDIA to english?

I'm interested in the surname CORDIER (one connection is thru henrietta Louise MAYOR, w/o george TURNTINE), i assume CORDIA is a var. of CORDIER.
with my other french surnames in MO, i.e. COURTOUISE, RULO, i understand they have an english loose translation. For former, courteous. for latter a roll, or scroll. i wondered if CORDIER & CORDIA mean a cord or rope?
because I've read bks. abt the voyageurs, those who travelled the great lakes area during the fur trade, and the word cordelling was in it. i couldn't find it in my big webster's dictionary. i'm sure it was a term in connection with a keelboat. used poling and sails and oars, and they portaged, carried things overland when necessary.
anyway, i'm just curious. the word cordelling may not be related at all. but if you have trans. for the surname, i'm interested. thanks. tessie

I've got as far as you in the search i.e. Francis Wise Alfred Cordier Bapt. 1843 St Mary's, Southampton. His father Peter Charles Francis Cordier and mother Frances Elizabeth Adlow. That's as far as I have managed to get.

It could be the same tree, ive got some info tucked away somewhere, just need to sort it all out. But was always told the family generations ago came to the english coast because of an accident that happened on a barge and the family settled over here and it was a large family.
Cordieruk@aol.com
