I received an incorrect death certificate and would like to get it to the proper family. I've done a bit of research on the family in the hopes that someone would recognize his or her ancester.
Clara S Cornelius (born about 1859 in NY, died Jan 17 1900 in NY, NY) was a black female, born to Nicholas J. and Caroline M. Cornelius. Nicholas (b. about 1836 in MD, parents also born in MD, died poss. Oct 1890) was a basketmaker in 1870. Civil War pension papers index has him serving in K31 USC Inf with an alias of John Johnson. Caroline M was born about 1838 in NY. Her parents were also born in NY. In 1880 she worked as a laundress, Nicholas as a laborer. Clara lived with them and worked as a servant. It appears that Clara married John T. Sharp. He lived at 266 or 267 7th Avenue, where Clara died. He was listed as single. Nicholas and Caroline (and Clara in 1880) lived on Minetta Avenue near 6th Avenue or closeby in 1870 and 1880.
