Odd can be found in the 1930 Census in a hospital at Mendocino. Hard to know if this was the result of shooting himself or some other problem. He remained in prison until 1978 when he was released around his 82nd birthday. He died the next summer.

He got out of prison as an old man and was bewildered by what he found. He'd been taken care of for so many years that he had difficulty coping. It's hard to be sympathetic to him when his wife and step-daughter didn't have that opportunity.
