I am related to a Samual William Cornell. I have a little info. on his brother John Thomas Cornell born May 24, 1890 and Died April 1, 1982. He was married to Corrinne N. Cornell( maiden name not known). Both born in Virginia. Parents names are Jesse A. Cornell and Emma Corrine Jacobson. Parents are from Ohio and Iowa.

I'm brand new to this and am looking for descendents of John Cornell (1788-1860). A man who researched our Cornell line maybe 50 years or more ago, before the days of computers, James Ward, said John came from MD - by interviewing a number of then living older family members. He said John's father was William Cornell and his wife's name may have been Nancy Howard Cornell. In doing a Search I haven't found anything helpful. Any tips? Most of the hints I can see say John's father was Ezra but that John's birthdates don't match the above....Am wondering why folks make the connection? Thanks. Darlene Cornell Stottsberry

Here is a little bit that I had collected - hope it helps some:
Per "The Wiltsie Family of Early New York" by George Olin Zabriskie, in the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, (says only continued from The Record 106:211):
"...Thomas Cornell and his wife Annatje Wiltsie, had nine children, all baptized at Jamaica, Long Island...
viii. Henrick/Henry bap. 3 Apr. 1738; m. Catharine Humphrey, daughter of Elizabeth Wiltsie..."

I'm not sure this is the same Uranah, although the parents names and birth date are the same. Uranah is my husband,s ggrandmother and is buried in Malone Cemetery. The headstone says she died in 1914.

Do you have any more information on your Uranah's death?

Uranah, also spelled Eurania, was born in Jun 1852 and died 28 Jan 1932 according to another cross reference here. She was a sister to my ggrandfather and their parents were Amos Cornell and Mary Farley Cornell, both buried at Ruckman Cemetery, Pleasants Co., WV. Was this helpful? There's more if so. Janet, I am a decendent of Peter Cornell, Charles Cornell, Sr and Charles Cornell Jr (my father). I am also researching for more info on William. I discovered that Peter left with the Samuel Frayer family when they all moved to Montgomery Co, IA to farm and then later moved to Burlington Junction, Mo.Peter was abt 20 yrs old then. Later marrying Sarah Alice Webb when he was 23 yrs. old. I'm concerned about the story of running away when it looks like he completed his servitude with the Frayers. He did stay for awhile with Samuel's daugh. and her husband, Orpha and Peter Perue, but they also followed Samuel to IA and then MO. So much for the orphan train. Please keep me in the loop for any info on William and Elisa. Sandy Cornell Carson

Thanx for posting. I need to go back and read my aunt's comments. I took over her Ancestry account after her death in 2006 and have all of her Cornell papers. I can't remember the date of her last posting, but she may have found add'l info after the posting and before her death. I'll get back to you soon.

Hi, This is very interesting since the info I had is that John Cornell's [wife-Sarah Parks] parents are William and Nancy Howard Cornell rather than Ezra and Elizabeth Briggs Cornell. Since I am quite new to this and not a member yet, is there a way you could let me know how you arrived at the deduction you've made? I am a descendant of Cornells who moved to Melbourne in the 1860s. There were 9 brothers, sons of Charles Cornell by two of his three marriages. The second wife was Eliza Osborn who had Charles, Henry, Frederick, Edward & James. The third wife was Sarah Ballard who had Albert (my ggrandfather), Walter, Frank & George. The family were businessmen in early Melbourne, also owned property at Dromana, McRae & Rosebud and some later generations settled in the Mallee of Western Victoria at Murrayville.

Hi Andi, At first I thought that we were tracing the same line of Cornell but mine started in the 1780s'. If it is the same branch then you still have a couple of living relatives in England.
Remember that in the 1700 / 1800s' many people could not write and that the name was written as the scribe heard it.
As it is I did a little searching for you and this is what I found:
John Cornil born 13 Feb 1704 ,christened 23 Sep 1705 was the son of Samuel Cornil and Ann
He married Anne Gowers 17 Oct 1726 Little Wratting, Suffolk.
Ann was born in L. Wratting about 1705 and John was buried 27 Dec 1757 in L. Wratting.
Unfortunately as I had nothing to go on I was only able to find 4 of their 9 children, but I'm sure you have all their names. I found:
Ann: chr.29 Sep 1728 L. Wratting
John: chr. L. Wratting 13 SEp 1730. This John married Margaret Preston 13 jan 1752 in Great Wratting and he died there 25 June 1769.
Elizabeth: chr. 19 Aug 1733 L. Wratting
Samuel: born 16 may 1736 chr. 1735 L. Wratting.
These children all went under the name of Cornil and they were all listed as children of John Cornil and Anne Gowers.
I hope this is of help to you and it would be really nice to see if the branch of Cornells I am working on is the same as yours.

Joseph Cornell born 1804 New York, died 1854 Iowa. Married Almira Darling ( daughter of Jabez and Nancy) 1827 Perrysburg New York. They had 6 children, James Eugene the oldest born 1832 Allegany New York, he married Susan Dolph 1861 Abingdon Ill.

I am looking for the relatives in New York. In the invalid papers for James Eugene he stated that he was born in Allegany

These are my notes on Elias and Sarah and family. I decend from son William Henry and I have his family well documented from family bible and death certificates, etc.

William was my great x 2 grandfather. I think I might have said before that Elias was my Great x 4, should have been great x 3.

Your information is familiar. I don't have the Phebe SEAMAN CORNELL information. Only that she married a Seaman and had son William. I would love to get anything you have and the documentation. Do you know what happened to her husband Seaman? I had some info that he died in Civil War but could not connect for sure. I will be happy to share my research.

No mention of Phebe's husband. Probably married Seaman, not living at home at 1870.

No markers, church note says 2 other lots are occupied, probably others. On William's death certificate it shows burial at Douglaston. Theory: Since owner is Mrs. William H. Leek, probably site was purchased at William Henry Leek's death in 1903 or before, and he was buried there. Probably Sarah was buried there later.

Documentation including death certificate and census records connect William H. Leek and wife Sarah Oakes to children including Charles Edgar Leek, and parents of William H. Leek : Elias Leek and Sarah Leek.

Mr. Leek was never married, he lived with his brother, William H. Leek. Another brother, Robert Leek, and a sister, Mrs. Sarah N. Coles, survive, also. They live at Greenpoint.

This contradicts the death certificate by age and order of middle and first name.

I was wondering whether anyone had some information on my Great Great Grandfather Simon Cornell who was born in Suffolk about 1841. He was residing in London by the 1870s and worked as a coachman. His wife was Janet. His children were, as far as I know, Charles (my Great Grandfather), Alice ("Sis"), possibly Henry. There was a rumour that one of the Cornell ancestors was French.

I have a Sarah Elizabeth Cornell (b. 1840 or 1847/48) in my family tree as well except she is married to Joseph Mott (1839 - 1929?). I have her parents listed as William and Harriet Cornell but I am not 100% sure about that.

Here are the children of '"my" Sarah CORNELL Leek. Do they match?

1. Sarah Ann LEEK. m. William COLES. Lived in North Hempstead circa 1887/88.

2. Edward LEEK, also of North Hempstead circa 1887/88 (no marriage info)

3. William Henry LEEK. Lived in Flushing circa 1887/88 (no marriage info).

4. Phebe LEEK.
m. (1) -- SEAMAN with whom she had sons William and Leaver Seaman.
m. (2) Treadwell CORNELL by whom she had a daughter Rebecca Cornell.
Treadwell Cornell and all three children lived in Flushing circa 1887/88. Phebe was dead by this time.

Thanks for the information. The "Edward Leek" I gave you must refer to your Edgar Elias (Elias E.) Leek. "Edward" was the name used in my source materials, but I trust your data more.

Sorry, I know nothing more about Phebe Leek's two husbands, Benjamin Seaman and Treadwell Cornell.

The oldest source of my data is a transcription by genealogist William A. Eardeley of the probate papers of Samuel Stilwell of Queens NY, who died on 3 Dec 1887. The papers include a long petition containing the names of 250+ Stilwell relatives, including the CORNELLs and LEEKs I named. The petition was published in full in "Combes:Combs:Comes:Coomes Genealogy 1650-1924"

Eardeley also transcribed the names in this notes and added more genealogy data when he found it. The microfilm title is "Manuscripts and notes of William A. Eardeley" FHL #416886 (Sheffield-Stillwell). The Cornell and Leek data are included in the Stilwell section.

I have printed copies of the source materials (at least I hope I still do). There really isn't much more LEEK data than I already gave you, but if you want it, send me a private email with your address and I'll mail you the pertinent pages when I'm able to find them. My mother was married to Allen Cornell back in 1950's, he is a son to Frank Cornell of McClure, Henry Co., OH and his mother Maude Mowan of Grand Rapids, Wood Co., OH. Frank and Maude had 11 children: Allen, James, and William, Mrs. Vernell Stillwagon, Mrs. George White, Mrs. Homer Powell, and Mrs. Viola Folts, all of Beaverton, Mrs. Ray Yager of Shields, and Mrs. June Buck of Farmington. One son and one daughter are deceased. I am looking for Cornell relation, for I have pictures of Allen and articles on Frank and Maude that were my mothers and I would like to get them back to the family for my mother is now deceased. Hi Saw your answer. Now I am finally back to doing research there was sickness in the family and now that I am albe to get a few minutes toget back into it I found that Zebulon the son of Daniel was next in line and then came Joseph who had Robert Roberts's daughter Eliza married a William Potter. they had a daughter Alma who married a Matthew Poehler of New York Now I am trying to find a published paper called the Cornell Cousins 1970-78 as I am told that Potter famlies are listed. I know they went to Michigan as Benoni Potter died in 1850 and his wife married Robert Cornell in 1852-3

thank you for responding and sorry I have not written before but we have had sickness in the family and it is not always ppossible to get awayfor a few minutes but Daniel had a son Zebulon. From Zebulon Joseph and from Joseph came Rober bonr 1798, Robert had a daughter Eliza Jane who married a William Potter and from their daughter Alma married a Matthew Poehler from New York. I would like to know more about the Family and Tom Cornell suggested I find the Cornell Cousins as there was information in there about the family. Thank you for your answer albeit a little late. I saw your message. My Cornell moved to Michigan in the early 1830 and most of them around Lepere.
My grandfather was a Benoni Potter who married a Mary Ann Reynolds and moved to Michigan. Who Benoni' parents are I do not know but I do know that Benoni's wife married a Robert cornell and he was the son of Joseph Cornell who was the son of Daniel. I don't know if any of the Cornells, other than Robert moved to Michigan. They probably as I find a lot of Cornell Names in Michigan.
My husband's family came from Henry County and I was surprised to learn that Cornell's wer from Ohio.

Hi, Janice.
I have only traced the descendants of John Cornell (b1704) down my line and have not investigated the descendants of his other children/grandchildren etc.
Reading your post, I think that it is unlikely that your Thomas is descended from John as his branch of the Cornells are all Cornell, not Corneille at least as far back as Samuel Cornell born about 1653.

My wife's family tree seems to include 3 generations of "Cornell" in England dating back to about 1802. We hope this information might help some of you with your trees:
* James Cornell, born Abt. 1802 in Hedingham, Essex, England. Married Judith Smith and had 6 children.
* Their son,John Cornell, was born 23 May 1830 in Wethersfield, Essex, England. Married Lucy Jarvis in 1855.
* Their daughter,Lucy Jane Cornell was born about 1860 around Stratford, Essex, England. She married James William Wright Dec 1881 somewhere near London England (ie Wimbish? or Edmonton?).

If you are able to connect your tree, could you please share information? We would like to extend this lineage further back in time.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Millard H. Cornell, 87, of Muscatine, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, at his home.

The Rev. Tom Parrott will officiate.

Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, with full military rites provided by the Moline American Legion.

Mr. Cornell was born March 8, 1920, in Rosiclare, Ill., the son of David and Rachel (Joiner) Cornell.

He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was employed as a welder at John Deere and enjoyed hunting, fishing and being on the river.

He will be deeply missed by two sons, Edwin Cornell and wife, Elaine, of Rosehill, Kan., and Hershel W. Cornell of La Center, Ky.; two grandchildren, Robert Cornell and wife, Ruth, and Allison Stumpf and husband, Nick, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; a great-grandchild, Ethan Ayden Cornell; three sisters, Versie Delay, Margie Walker and Nora Baldwin; and three brothers, Wilburn Cornell, Archie Cornell and Garcie Cornell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

I am interested in information on John G. Cornell born May 1860. On his wedding papers it says that he was born in Greenville MI. His parents are John and Sarah ( Mooney). He married Sarah Jane Hall in 1900 Galesburg Agusta, Kalamazoo County MI. Sarah Jane parents are John Hall and Easther Ann (Perkins). Thanks Sandie

Any, I found a Thomas Cornell, b.1804 Barking, Essex - could he be descended from your ancestor born 100 years earlier? Thomas was a Fram Bailiff.

I am looking for the birth of my GGF Benjamin Cornell, c.1816 -c.1852. He was in Melbourne Cambs in 1841, married Emma Austin (1818-19869) of Little Shelford c.1844. Sons Augustus Benjamin Cornell 1845 -1911 - Cabinet Maker/Udertaker of Goderich Ontario, + my GF Alfred Austin Cornell 1849 -1894, Master Cabinet Upholsterer of Mile End Old Town and Poplar, E. London. I am the daughter of his 7th child, Sidney Cornell 1890 -1956 (I was 6 when Sidney died).
My Cornells were once spelled CORNEILLE and reputedly came from France. There is a Canadian connection both British Colombia and Ontario plus a Scottish Connection - my Uncle Augustus Cornell 1875 -1903 served in 2nd Battalion The Royal Scots. All good wishes
